Genesis 29
1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.
Da machte sich Jakob auf den Weg und wanderte ins Land der Söhne des Ostens.
2 And he looked, and behold, a well in the field, and lo, there [were] three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone [was] upon the well's mouth.
Er schaute aus; da war im Feld ein Brunnen, und drei Schafherden lagerten daran; denn aus diesem Brunnen pflegte man die Herden zu tränken. Der Stein aber über dem Brunnenloch war groß.
3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in its place.
Waren nun alle Herden dort beisammen, dann wälzte man den Stein vom Brunnenloch und tränkte die Schafe. Dann brachte man den Stein für das Brunnenloch wieder an seine Stelle.
4 And Jacob said to them, My brethren, whence [are] ye? And they said, We [are] from Haran.
Da sprach Jakob zu ihnen: "Brüder! Wo seid ihr her?" Sie sagten: "Aus Charan."
5 And he said to them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? and they said, We know [him].
Er sprach zu ihnen: "Kennt ihr Laban, Nachors Sohn?" Sie sprachen: "Jawohl!"
6 And he said to them, [Is] he well? And they said, [He is] well: and behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
Er sprach zu ihnen: "Geht's ihm auch gut?" Sie sprachen: "Ja! Und da kommt gerade seine Tochter Rachel mit den Schafen."
7 And he said, Lo, [it is] yet high day, neither [is it] time that the cattle should be collected: water ye the sheep, and go [and] feed [them].
Er sprach: "Noch ist's hoch am Tag und noch zu früh, das Vieh einzutreiben. Tränket die Schafe und weidet weiter!"
8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks are collected, and [till] they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
Sie sprachen: "Wir können es nicht, bis alle Herden beisammen sind; dann wälzt man den Stein vom Brunnenloch, und wir tränken die Schafe."
9 And while he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.
Noch redete er mit ihnen, da kam Rachel mit den Schafen ihres Vaters; denn sie war Hirtin.
10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother; that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
Wie nun Jakob Rachel, die Tochter seines Mutterbruders Laban, erblickt hatte und die Schafe seines Mutterbruders Laban, da trat Jakob herzu und wälzte den Stein vom Brunnenloch und tränkte seines Mutterbruders Laban Schafe.
11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
Dann küßte Jakob die Rachel und hob laut zu weinen an.
12 And Jacob told Rachel that he [was] her father's brother, and that he [was] Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father.
Und Jakob erzählte der Rachel, er sei ein Bruder ihres Vaters und zwar ein Sohn Rebekkas. Da lief sie und erzählte es ihrem Vater.
13 And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
Wie Laban solche Kunde von seinem Schwestersohne Jakob vernahm, lief er ihm entgegen, umarmte und küßte ihn und führte ihn in sein Haus; jener aber erzählte Laban die ganze Geschichte.
14 And Laban said to him, Surely thou [art] my bone and my flesh: and he abode with him the space of a month.
Und Laban sprach zu ihm: "So bist du also von meinem Bein und Fleisch." Als er einen Monat lang bei ihm war.
15 And Laban said to Jacob, Because thou [art] my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for naught? tell me, what [shall] thy wages [be]?
sprach Laban zu Jakob: "Wolltest du, weil du mein Bruder bist, mir umsonst dienen? Sag mir: Was soll dein Lohn sein?"
16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder [was] Leah, and the name of the younger [was] Rachel.
Nun hatte Laban zwei Töchter; die ältere hieß Lea, die jüngere Rachel.
17 Leah [was] tender-eyed, but Rachel was beautiful and well-favored.
Lea hatte glanzlose Augen, Rachel aber war schön von Gestalt und Antlitz.
18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.
Und Jakob gewann Rachel lieb. Er sprach: "Ich diene dir sieben Jahre um Rachel, deine jüngere Tochter."
19 And Laban said, [It is] better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
Laban sprach: "Besser, ich gebe sie dir als einem fremden Mann. Bleib bei mir!"
20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed to him [but] a few days, for the love he had to her.
So diente Jakob um Rachel sieben Jahre, und sie dünkten ihm wie wenige Tage, weil er sie liebte.
21 And Jacob said to Laban, Give [me] my wife (for my days are fulfilled) that I may go in to her.
Dann sprach Jakob zu Laban: "Gib mir mein Weib! Denn meine Zeit ist um, daß ich sie heirate."
22 And Laban assembled all the men of the place, and made a feast.
Da lud Laban alle Männer des Ortes ein und bereitete ein Gastmahl.
23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in to her.
Als es Abend ward, nahm er seine Tochter Lea und führte sie ihm zu, und er wohnte ihr bei.
24 And Laban gave to his daughter Leah, Zilpah his maid [for] a handmaid.
Und Laban gab seine Magd Zilpa seiner Tochter Lea zur Magd.
25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it [was] Leah: and he said to Laban, What [is] this thou hast done to me? did I not serve with thee for Rachel? why then hast thou deceived me?
Am Morgen aber war es die Lea. Da sprach er zu Laban: "Was hast du mir da getan? Habe ich nicht um Rachel bei dir gedient? Warum hast du mich betrogen?"
26 And Laban said, it must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the first-born.
Laban sprach:"An unserem Ort ist's nicht der Brauch, die jüngere vor der Älteren wegzugehen.
27 Fulfill her week, and we will give thee this also, for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
Führe mit der einen die Woche zu Ende, dann werden wir dir auch die andere geben um den Dienst von weiteren sieben Jahren bei mir."
28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel, his daughter, for a wife also.
Und Jakob tat so und führte mit der einen die Woche zu Ende. Dann gab Laban ihm seine Tochter Rachel zum Weib.
29 And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah, his handmaid, to be her maid.
Und Laban gab seiner Tochter seine Magd Bilha zur Magd.
30 And he went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
So wohnte er auch Rachel bei. Er liebte aber Rachel mehr als Lea, und so diente er bei ihm andere sieben Jahre.
31 And when the LORD saw that Leah [was] hated, he made her fruitful: but Rachel [was] barren.
Wie nun der Herr sah, daß Lea nicht geliebt wurde, öffnete er ihren Mutterschoß; Rachel aber blieb unfruchtbar.
32 And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
So empfing Lea, gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Ruben; denn sie sprach: "Gesehen hat ja der Herr mein Elend. Nun wird mein Mann mich liebgewinnen.
33 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I [was] hated, he hath therefore given me this [son] also: and she called his name Simeon.
Wieder ward sie guter Hoffnung und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: "Gehört hat ja der Herr, daß ich ungeliebt bin. Darum gab er mir auch diesen." Und sie nannte ihn Simeon.
34 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Now this time will my husband adhere to me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.
Wieder ward sie guter Hoffnung und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: "Nun endlich wird sich mein Mann mit mir verbinden; drei Söhne habe ich ihm geboren." Darum nannte man ihn Levi.
35 And she conceived again, and bore a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah, and left bearing.
Wieder ward sie guter Hoffnung und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach sie: "Endlich kann ich den Herrn lobpreisen." Darum nannte sie ihn Juda. Danach hörte sie mit Gebären auf.
