Exodus 3

1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, [even] to Horeb.

Moïse, cependant, paissait les brebis de Jéthro, son beau-père, prêtre de Madian; il conduisit les brebis au-dessous du désert, et il arriva en la montagne d'Horeb.

2 And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed.

Là, l'ange du Seigneur lui apparut dans un feu flamboyant qui sortait d'un buisson; Moïse voit que le buisson est enflammé et qu'il ne brûle point.

3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

Et Moïse se dit: Approchons, voyons cette grande vision, ce buisson qui ne brûle pas.

4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here [am] I.

Dès que le Seigneur vit qu'il approchait pour voir, il l'appela du buisson, disant: Moïse, Moïse; il répondit: Qu'y a-t-il?

5 And he said, Approach not hither: put off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place on which thou standest [is] holy ground.

Et le Seigneur dit: Ne viens pas jusqu'ici: dénoue la chaussure de tes pieds; car le lieu où tu t'es arrêté est terre sainte.

6 Moreover he said, I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face: for he was afraid to look upon God.

Le Seigneur dit encore: Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, le Dieu de Jacob; et Moïse détourna le visage, car il n'osait point regarder Dieu.

7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their task-masters; for I know their sorrows;

Le Seigneur dit ensuite à Moïse: J'ai vu l'oppression de mon peuple en Égypte; j'ai entendu leur cri au sujet des intendants des travaux; je sais leur peine.

8 And I am come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them out of that land, to a good land, and a large, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Et je suis descendu pour les tirer des mains des hommes de l'Égypte, pour les faire sortir de cette terre, et les conduire en la terre vaste et fertile, en la terre où coulent le lait et le miel, en la terre des Chananéens, des Hettéens, des Amorrhéens, des Phérézéens, des Évéens et des Jébuséens.

9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come to me: and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Le cri d'Israël est venu jusqu'à moi, et j'ai vu les maux dont les Égyptiens les accablent.

10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee to Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Pars donc maintenant, va devant le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, et tu feras sortir de cette terre mon peuple, les fils d'Israël.

11 And Moses said to God, Who [am] I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

Et Moise dit à Dieu: Qui suis-je, moi, pour aller devant le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, et pour faire sortir de la terre d'Égypte les fils d'Israël?

12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this [shall be] a token to thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

Et Dieu répondit à Moïse, disant: Je serai avec toi; pour preuve que c'est moi qui t'envoie, lorsque tu emmèneras mon peuple de l'Égypte, vous sacrifierez à Dieu sur cette même montagne.

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, [when] I come to the children of Israel, and shall say to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me to you; and they shall say to me, What [is] his name? What shall I say to them?

Et Moïse dit à Dieu: Ainsi donc, j'irai vers les fils d'Israël, et je leur dirai: Le Dieu de vos pères m'a envoyé près de vous; alors, ils me demanderont quel est son nom: que leur dirai-je?

14 And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM: And he said, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me to you.

Dieu répondit à Moïse: Je suis CELUI QUI EST; et Dieu ajouta: Tu parleras en ces termes aux fils d'Israël: CELUI QUI EST m'a envoyé près de vous.

15 And God said, moreover, to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me to you: this [is] my name for ever, and this [is] my memorial to all generations.

Et Dieu ajouta: Tu parleras en ces termes aux fils d’Israël: LE SEIGNEUR Dieu de vos pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, le Dieu de Jacob, m'a envoyé près de vous. Tel est mon nom immortel, le mémorial des générations et des générations.

16 Go and assemble the elders of Israel, and say to them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, I have surely visited you, and [seen] that which is done to you in Egypt.

Va donc rassembler les anciens des fils d'Israël, et dis-leur: Le Seigneur Dieu de nos pères m'est apparu, le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob, et il m'a dit: Je vous ai surveillés et surveillés, vous et tout ce qui est arrivé en Égypte.

17 And I have said, I will bring you out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

Et Dieu ajouta: Je vous délivrerai de l'oppression des Égyptiens pour vous faire passer en la terre des Chananéens, des Hettéens, des Amorrhéens, des Phérézéens, des Gergéséens, des Évéens, des Jébuséens, en la terre où coulent le lait et le miel.

18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and ye shall say to him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go (we beseech thee) three days journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

Alors, ils seront dociles à ta voix, et tu entreras avec les anciens d'Israël chez le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, et tu lui diras: Le Dieu des Hébreux nous a appelés; nous irons donc dans le désert, à trois journées de marche pour sacrifier à notre Dieu.

19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

Je sais cependant que le Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, ne vous laissera point partir, sinon forcé par ma main puissante.

20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

Alors, étendant mon bras, je frapperai les Égyptiens par toutes sortes de prodiges opérés sur eux, et après cela le roi vous laissera partir.

21 And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

Et je ferai trouver grâce à ce peuple devant les Égyptiens, car lorsque vous fuirez vous ne partirez point à vide.

22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbor, and of her that dwelleth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put [them] upon your sons, and upon your daughters: and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

Toute femme demandera à sa voisine et à son hôtesse des vases d'or et d'argent, et des vêtements; vous en chargerez vos fils et vos filles. Dépouillez ainsi les Égyptiens.
