Exodus 18

1 When Jethro the priest of Midian, Moses's father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, [and] that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt:

ദൈവം മോശയ്ക്കും തന്റെ ജനമായ ഇസ്രായേലിനുംവേണ്ടി ചെയ്ത സകലകാര്യങ്ങളും യഹോവ ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന വിവരവും മിദ്യാനിലെ പുരോഹിതനും മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനുമായ യിത്രോ കേട്ടു.

2 Then Jethro, Moses's father-in-law, took Zipporah Moses's wife, after he had sent her back,

മോശ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സിപ്പോറയെ മടക്കി അയച്ചിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനായ യിത്രോ അവളെയും

3 And her two sons; of which the name of the one [was] Gershom; (for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land: )

അവളുടെ രണ്ട് ആൺമക്കളെയും സ്വീകരിച്ചു. “ഞാൻ അന്യദേശത്ത് പ്രവാസിയായിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് ഒരു മകന് മോശ ഗെർശോം എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

4 And the name of the other [was] Eliezer; (for the God of my father, [said he], [was] my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: )

“എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ദൈവം എന്റെ സഹായമായി, അവിടന്ന് എന്നെ ഫറവോന്റെ വാളിൽനിന്ന് രക്ഷിച്ചു,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് മറ്റേമകന് അദ്ദേഹം എലീയേസർ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

5 And Jethro, Moses's father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:

മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനായ യിത്രോ മോശയുടെ ആൺമക്കളെയും ഭാര്യയെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു മരുഭൂമിയിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തി. അവിടെ, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പർവതത്തിനരികെ മോശ കൂടാരമടിച്ചിരുന്നു.

6 And he said to Moses, I thy father-in-law Jethro have come to thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.

“നിന്റെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനായ യിത്രോ എന്ന ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരുമായി നിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്നു യിത്രോ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയിച്ചു.

7 And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance, and kissed him: and they asked each other of [their] welfare: and they came into the tent.

മോശ പുറപ്പെട്ട് അമ്മായിയപ്പനെ വണങ്ങി ചുംബിച്ച് എതിരേറ്റു. അവർ പരസ്പരം അഭിവാദനംചെയ്തശേഷം കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

8 And Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh, and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, [and] all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and [how] the LORD delivered them.

യഹോവ ഇസ്രായേലിനുവേണ്ടി ഫറവോനോടും ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരോടും ചെയ്ത സകലകാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും വഴിയിൽ അവർക്കു നേരിട്ട സകലവൈഷമ്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും യഹോവ അവരെ വിടുവിച്ചതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും മോശ യിത്രോയെ പറഞ്ഞുകേൾപ്പിച്ചു.

9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.

ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്ന് ഇസ്രായേലിനെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്താൻ അവർക്കുവേണ്ടി യഹോവ ചെയ്ത എല്ലാ നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും കേട്ട് യിത്രോ ആനന്ദിച്ചു.

10 And Jethro said, Blessed [be] the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു, “ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരുടെയും ഫറവോന്റെയും കൈയിൽനിന്ന് നിന്നെ വിടുവിച്ചവനും ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്ന് ജനങ്ങളെ മോചിപ്പിച്ചവനുമായ യഹോവ വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവൻ.

11 Now I know that the LORD [is] greater than all gods: for in the thing in which they dealt proudly, [he was] above them.

യഹോവ സകലദേവന്മാരെക്കാളും വലിയവൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ ഇപ്പോൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു. ഇസ്രായേലിനോടു ധിക്കാരമായി പെരുമാറിയവരോട് അവിടന്ന് ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തല്ലോ!”

12 And Jethro, Moses's father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses's father-in-law before God.

പിന്നെ, മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനായ യിത്രോ ദൈവത്തിന് ഒരു ഹോമയാഗവും മറ്റുയാഗങ്ങളും അർപ്പിച്ചു. അഹരോനും ഇസ്രായേലിലെ സകലഗോത്രത്തലവന്മാരും വന്ന് മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പനോടൊപ്പം ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning to the evening.

പിറ്റേദിവസം മോശ ജനത്തിനു ന്യായംവിധിക്കാൻ ഇരുന്നു. പ്രഭാതംമുതൽ സന്ധ്യവരെ ജനം മോശയ്ക്കുചുറ്റും നിന്നു.

14 And when Moses's father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What [is] this thing that thou doest to the people? Why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning to evening?

ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി മോശ ചെയ്യുന്നതെല്ലാം കണ്ടിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് അമ്മായിയപ്പൻ ചോദിച്ചു: “നീ ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്താണ്? ഈ ജനമെല്ലാം രാവിലെമുതൽ വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ നിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിൽക്കുകയും നീ തനിച്ച് ന്യായവിസ്താരം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്തുകൊണ്ട്?”

15 And Moses said to his father-in-law, Because the people come to me to inquire of God:

മോശ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ദൈവഹിതം അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ജനം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്നു.

16 When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between one and another, and I make [them] know the statutes of God, and his laws.

അവർക്കു തർക്കം ഉണ്ടാകുമ്പോൾ അവർ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽവരും. ഞാൻ അവർക്കുമധ്യേ തീർപ്പുകൽപ്പിച്ച് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരവുകളും നിയമങ്ങളും അവരെ അറിയിക്കും.”

17 And Moses's father-in-law said to him, The thing that thou doest [is] not good.

അതിനു മറുപടിയായി മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പൻ: “നീ ഈ ചെയ്യുന്നതു നന്നല്ല.

18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that [is] with thee: for this thing [is] too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

നീയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്ന ഈ ജനങ്ങളും തളർന്നുപോകും. ഈ ജോലി നിനക്കു വഹിക്കാവുന്നതിൽ അധികമാണ്; നിനക്കു തനിയേ ഇതു കൈകാര്യംചെയ്യുക സാധ്യമല്ല.

19 Hearken now to my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people toward God, that thou mayest bring the causes to God:

ഇപ്പോൾ എന്റെ വാക്കു ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക, ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് ഉപദേശം നൽകാം; ദൈവം നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ. നീ ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിനിധി ആയി അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരങ്ങൾ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലണം.

20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.

അവിടത്തെ ഉത്തരവുകളും നിയമങ്ങളും അവരെ പഠിപ്പിക്കയും ജീവിക്കേണ്ട വിധവും അനുഷ്ഠിക്കേണ്ട കർത്തവ്യങ്ങളും അവരെ പ്രബോധിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യണം.

21 Moreover, thou shalt provide out of all the people, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place [such] over them [to be] rulers of thousands, [and] rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

സകലജനത്തിൽനിന്ന് പ്രാപ്തരും ദൈവഭയമുള്ളവരും സത്യസന്ധരും ദുരാദായം വെറുക്കുന്നവരുമായ ചില പുരുഷന്മാരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് അവരെ ആയിരംപേർക്കും നൂറുപേർക്കും അൻപതുപേർക്കും പത്തുപേർക്കും അധിപന്മാരായി നിയമിക്കുക.

22 And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, [that] every great matter they shall bring to thee, but every small matter they shall judge: So shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear [the burden] with thee.

അവർ എപ്പോഴും ജനത്തിനു ന്യായംവിധിക്കട്ടെ. സങ്കീർണമായ വ്യവഹാരങ്ങൾ അവർ നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരികയും ലഘുവായ കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ അവർതന്നെ തീർപ്പുകൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ. അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നിന്റെ ജോലിഭാരം കുറയും, അങ്ങനെ അവരും അതു നിന്നോടൊപ്പം പങ്കിടുമല്ലോ!

23 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee [so], then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

നീ ഇതു ചെയ്യുകയും ദൈവം അത് അനുവദിക്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ നിനക്കു കഠിനാധ്വാനം ഒഴിവാക്കാം, ജനമെല്ലാം സംതൃപ്തരായി വീടുകളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്യും.”

24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.

മോശ അമ്മായിയപ്പന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ കേട്ടു; അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ എല്ലാം ചെയ്തു.

25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

അദ്ദേഹം സകല ഇസ്രായേലിൽനിന്നും സമർഥരായ പുരുഷന്മാരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് അവരെ ജനത്തിനു നായകന്മാരാക്കി. ആയിരംപേർക്കും നൂറുപേർക്കും അൻപതുപേർക്കും പത്തുപേർക്കും അധിപന്മാരായി നിയമിച്ചു.

26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

അവർ എപ്പോഴും ജനത്തിനു ന്യായപാലനം നടത്തി. പ്രയാസമുള്ള വ്യവഹാരങ്ങൾ അവർ മോശയുടെമുമ്പിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. ലഘുവായവയ്ക്ക് അവർതന്നെ തീർപ്പുകൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

27 And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

മോശ അമ്മായിയപ്പനെ യാത്രയയച്ചു; അദ്ദേഹം സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
