Ecclesiastes 3
1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Para tudo há uma estação do ano, e um tempo para cada propósito sob o céu:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
um tempo para nascer, e um tempo para morrer; um tempo para plantar, e um tempo para arrancar o que é plantado;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
um tempo para matar, e um tempo para curar; um tempo para quebrar, e um tempo para construir;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
um tempo para chorar, e um tempo para rir; um tempo para lamentar, e um tempo para dançar;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
um tempo para jogar pedras fora, e um tempo para juntar as pedras; um tempo para abraçar, e um tempo para se abster de abraçar;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
um momento a buscar, e um tempo a perder; um tempo a ser mantido, e um tempo para jogar fora;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
um tempo para rasgar, e um tempo para costurar; um tempo para manter o silêncio, e um tempo para falar;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
um tempo para amar, e um tempo para odiar; um tempo de guerra, e um tempo de paz.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that in which he laboreth?
Que lucro tem aquele que trabalha naquilo em que trabalha?
10 I have seen the labor, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
Tenho visto o fardo que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens para serem afligidos.
11 He hath made every [thing] beautiful in its time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Ele tornou tudo belo em seu tempo. Ele também colocou a eternidade em seus corações, mas para que o homem não possa descobrir o trabalho que Deus tem feito desde o início até o fim.
12 I know that [there is] no good in them, but for [a man] to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
Eu sei que não há nada melhor para eles do que alegrar-se e fazer o bem enquanto viverem.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it [is] the gift of God.
Também que todo homem deve comer e beber, e desfrutar o bem em todo o seu trabalho, é o dom de Deus.
14 I know that, whatever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be added to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.
Sei que o que quer que Deus faça, será para sempre. Nada pode ser acrescentado a ele, nem nada pode ser retirado dele; e Deus o fez, que os homens devem temer diante dele.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
O que já foi há muito tempo, e o que há de ser já foi há muito tempo. Deus procura novamente aquilo que já passou.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, [that] wickedness [was] there; and the place of righteousness, [that] iniquity [was] there.
Além disso, vi debaixo do sol, no lugar da justiça, que a maldade estava lá; e no lugar da justiça, que a maldade estava lá.
17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked: for [there is] a time there for every purpose and for every work.
Eu disse em meu coração: “Deus julgará os justos e os ímpios; pois há ali um tempo para cada propósito e para cada obra”.
18 I said in my heart concerning the state of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
Eu disse em meu coração: “Quanto aos filhos dos homens, Deus os testa, para que vejam que eles mesmos são como animais”.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yes, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.
Pois o que acontece com os filhos dos homens acontece com os animais”. Até mesmo uma coisa acontece com eles. Como um morre, assim o outro morre. Sim, todos eles têm um só fôlego; e o homem não tem nenhuma vantagem sobre os animais, pois tudo é vaidade.
20 All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
Todos vão para um só lugar. Todos são do pó, e todos se transformam em pó novamente.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Quem conhece o espírito do homem, se vai para cima, e o espírito do animal, se vai para baixo para a terra”?
22 Wherefore I perceive that [there is] nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that [is] his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
Portanto, vi que não há nada melhor do que um homem se regozijar em suas obras, pois essa é a sua parte; pois quem pode trazê-lo para ver o que virá depois dele?
