Ecclesiastes 3
1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Tudo tem o seu tempo determinado, e todo o proposito debaixo do céu tem o seu tempo:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
Ha tempo de nascer, e tempo de morrer: tempo de plantar, e tempo d'arrancar o que se plantou:
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
Tempo de matar, e tempo de curar: tempo de derribar, e tempo de edificar:
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Tempo de chorar, e tempo de rir: tempo de prantear, e tempo de saltar:
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
Tempo de espalhar pedras, e tempo de ajuntar pedras: tempo de abraçar, e tempo de afastar-se de abraçar:
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
Tempo de buscar, e tempo de perder: tempo de guardar, e tempo de deitar fóra:
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Tempo de rasgar, e tempo de coser: tempo de calar, e tempo de fallar:
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Tempo de amar, e tempo de aborrecer: tempo de guerra, e tempo de paz.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that in which he laboreth?
Que vantagem tem o trabalhador d'aquillo em que trabalha?
10 I have seen the labor, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
Tenho visto o trabalho que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para com elle os affligir.
11 He hath made every [thing] beautiful in its time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Tudo fez formoso em seu tempo: tambem poz o seculo no coração d'elles, sem que o homem possa descobrir a obra que Deus fez desde o principio até ao fim.
12 I know that [there is] no good in them, but for [a man] to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
Já tenho advertido que não ha coisa melhor para elles do que alegrar-se e fazer bem na sua vida;
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it [is] the gift of God.
Como tambem que todo o homem coma e beba, e goze do bem de todo o seu trabalho: isto é um dom de Deus.
14 I know that, whatever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be added to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.
Sei eu que tudo quanto Deus faz isso durará eternamente: nada se lhe deve accrescentar, e nada d'elle se deve diminuir; e isto faz Deus para que haja temor diante d'elle.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
O que houve d'antes ainda o ha agora: e o que ha de ser, já foi; e Deus pede conta do que passou.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, [that] wickedness [was] there; and the place of righteousness, [that] iniquity [was] there.
Vi mais debaixo do sol, no logar do juizo, que havia ali impiedade, e no logar da justiça que ali havia impiedade.
17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked: for [there is] a time there for every purpose and for every work.
Eu disse no meu coração: Deus julgará o justo e o impio; porque ali será o tempo para julgar de todo o intento e sobre toda a obra.
18 I said in my heart concerning the state of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
Disse eu no meu coração ácerca do estado dos filhos dos homens, que Deus lhes declararia; e elles o veriam, que elles são como as bestas em si mesmos.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yes, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.
Porque o que succede aos filhos dos homens, isso mesmo tambem succede ás bestas, e o mesmo succede a elles ambos: como morre um, assim morre o outro; e todos teem o mesmo folego, e a vantagem dos homens sobre as bestas não é nenhuma, porque todos são vaidade.
20 All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
Todos vão para um logar: todos foram feitos do pó, e todos voltarão ao pó
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Quem adverte que o folego dos filhos dos homens sobe para cima, e que o folego das bestas desce para baixo da terra?
22 Wherefore I perceive that [there is] nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that [is] his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
Assim que tenho visto que não ha coisa melhor do que alegrar-se o homem nas suas obras, porque essa é a sua porção; porque quem o levará a vêr o que será depois d'elle
