Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the preacher, the son of David, king of Jerusalem.
১এই হল উপদেশকের কথা, দায়ূদের বংশধর এবং যিনি যিরুশালেমে রাজত্ব করেছিলেন।
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher, vanity of vanities; all [is] vanity.
২উপদেশক এই কথা বলেছেন, “কুয়াশার বাষ্পের মত, বাতাসে মিশে থাকা জল কণার মত, সব কিছুই উবে যায়, অনেক প্রশ্ন রেখে।
3 What profit hath a man of all his labor, which he taketh under the sun?
৩সূর্য্যের নিচে মানুষ সমস্ত কাজের জন্য যে পরিশ্রম করে, তাতে তার কি লাভ হয়?
4 [One] generation passeth away, and [another] generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
৪এক প্রজন্ম যায় এবং আর এক প্রজন্ম আসে, কিন্তু পৃথিবী চিরকাল থেকে যায়।
5 The sun also riseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
৫সূর্য্য ওঠে ও অস্ত যায় এবং তাড়াতাড়ি সেই জায়গায় ফিরে আসে যেখান থেকে সে আবার উঠবে।
6 The wind goeth towards the south, and turneth about to the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to its circuits.
৬বাতাস দক্ষিণে বয় এবং ঘুরে উত্তরে যায়, সবদিন তার পথে ঘুরতে ঘুরতে যায় এবং আবার ফিরে আসে।
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea [is] not full; to the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
৭সব নদী সমুদ্রে গিয়ে পড়ে, কিন্তু সমুদ্র কখনও পূর্ণ হয় না। সেই জায়গায় যেখানে নদীরা যায়, সেখানে তারা আবার ফিরে যায়।
8 All things [are] full of labor; man cannot utter [it]: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
৮সব কিছুই ক্লান্তিকর হয়ে উঠে এবং কেউ তার ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারে না। চোখ যা দেখে তাতে সে তৃপ্ত নয়, না কান শুনে তাতে পূর্ণ হয়।
9 The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun.
৯যা কিছু হয়েছে সেটাই হবে এবং যা কিছু করা হয়েছে তাই করা হবে। সূর্য্যের নিচে কোন কিছুই নতুন নয়।
10 Is there [any] thing of which it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
১০এরকম কি কিছু আছে যার বিষয়ে বলা যেতে পারে, ‘দেখ, এটা নতুন?’ যা কিছুর অস্তিত্ব আছে যা অনেক আগে থেকেই ছিল, যুগ যুগ ধরে, যা আমাদের আসার অনেক আগেই এসেছিল।
11 [There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.
১১প্রাচীনকালে কি হয়েছিল তা হয়ত কারোরই মনে নেই এবং সেই সব বিষয়ে যা ঘটেছে অনেক পরে আর যা কিছু ঘটবে ভবিষ্যতে সেগুলোর কোনটাই মনে রাখা হবে না।”
12 I the preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
১২আমি উপদেশক এবং আমি ইস্রায়েলের যিরুশালেমের ওপর রাজা ছিলাম।
13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all [things] that are done under heaven: this grievous labor hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised with it.
১৩যা কিছু আকাশের নিচে হয়েছে তা আমি আমার মনকে ব্যবহার করেছি জ্ঞান দিয়ে শিখতে এবং সবকিছু খুঁজে বার করতে। ঐ খোঁজ হল খুব কষ্টকর কাজ যা ঈশ্বর মানুষের সন্তানদের দিয়েছেন এটার সঙ্গে ব্যস্ত থাকার জন্য।
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
১৪আমি সমস্ত কাজ দেখেছি যা সূর্য্যের নিচে করা হয়েছে এবং দেখ, তাদের সমস্তই অসার এবং বাতাসকে পরিবর্তন করার চেষ্টা।
15 [That which is] crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
১৫যা বাঁকা তা সোজা করা যায় না! যা নেই তা গণনা করা যায় না!
16 I communed with my own heart, saying, Lo, I have come to great estate, and have gained more wisdom than all [they] that have been before me in Jerusalem: and my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
১৬আমি আমার হৃদয়ের সাথে কথা বলেছি, “দেখ, আমার আগে যারা সকলে যিরুশালেমে ছিল তাদের থেকে আমি বেশি জ্ঞান অর্জন করেছি। আমার মন মহান প্রজ্ঞা এবং জ্ঞান দেখেছে।”
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
১৭তাই আমি আমার হৃদয় প্রজ্ঞা জানার জন্য ব্যবহার করেছি এবং একইসঙ্গে মত্ততা আর মূর্খতা জানার জন্য। আমি বুঝতে পারলাম যে এটাও বাতাসকে পরিচালনা করার মত ছিল।
18 For in much wisdom [is] much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
১৮কারণ যেখানে প্রচুর জ্ঞান থাকে সেখানে অনেক হতাশাও থাকে এবং সে যে জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি করে, সে দুঃখও বাড়ায়।
