< Deuteronomy 9 >
1 Hear, O Israel: Thou [art] to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,
Wulira, Ayi Isirayiri. Osemberedde olunaku lw’ojja okusomokerako omugga Yoludaani, oyingire mu nsi omuli amawanga agakusinga obunene, ogyetwalire ogyefunire. Olisangamu ebibuga ebinene ebyebulunguddwa ebigo ebyawanvuwa okutuuka ku ggulu.
2 A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and [of whom] thou hast heard [it said], Who can stand before the children of Anak!
Abantu baayo be batabani ba Anaki, ba maanyi era bawanvu. Obamanyi bulungi, era wawulirako dda nga boogerwako nti, “Ani ayinza okwolekera Abanaki?”
3 Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God [is] he who goeth over before thee; [as] a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said to thee.
Naye kitegeere leero nga Mukama Katonda wo y’akukulembera buli gy’oba olaga yonna, era ng’ali ng’omuliro ogusaanyaawo buli kintu. Ab’amaanyi abo agenda kubasiguukulula abazikirize nga naawe olaba. Noolwekyo ogenda kubagobamu obamalirewo ddala mu kaseera katono, nga Mukama bw’akusuubizza.
4 Speak not thou in thy heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.
Mukama Katonda wo bw’alimala okugobamu amawanga ago gonna nga naawe olaba, teweewaananga nga weeyogerako nti, “Mukama ansobozesezza okuyingira mu nsi muno n’okugifuna olw’obutuukirivu bwange;” songa lwa butali butuukirivu bwa mawanga ago, Mukama kyanaava agagobamu mu maaso go.
5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thy heart dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations, the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD swore to thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Ojja kuyingira mu nsi yaabwe ogitwale, si lwa kubanga oli mutuukirivu, oba omwesigwa; wabula lwa kibi ky’amawanga ago Mukama Katonda wo kyanaava agagoba mu maaso go, atuukirize n’ekisuubizo kye yalayirira bajjajjaabo: Ibulayimu ne Isaaka ne Yakobo.
6 Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou [art] a stiff-necked people.
Osaana okitegeere ng’ensi eno ennungi Mukama Katonda gy’akuwa okugyefunira tagikuwa lwa kubanga oli mutuukirivu; kubanga oli muntu alina ensingo enkakanyavu.
7 Remember, [and] forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart from the land of Egypt, until ye came to this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.
Ojjukiranga, era tosaana kwerabiranga, nga bwe wasunguwaza Mukama Katonda wo ng’oli mu ddungu. Okuviira ddala ku lunaku lwe wava mu nsi ey’e Misiri mubadde mujeemera Mukama n’okutuusa lwe mutuuse mu kifo kino.
8 Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.
Ku lusozi Kolebu mwanyiiza Mukama Katonda, obusungu bwe ne bubuubuuka nnyo n’okwagala n’ayagala okubazikiriza.
9 When I ascended the mount, to receive the tables of stone, [even] the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither ate bread, nor drank water:
Bwe nalinnya ku lusozi okuweebwa ebipande eby’amayinja, nga bye byaliko endagaano Mukama Katonda gye yali alagaanye nammwe, ne mmala ku lusozi ennaku amakumi ana emisana n’ekiro, saalya ku mmere wadde okunywa ku mazzi.
10 And the LORD delivered to me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them [was written] according to all the words which the LORD spoke with you in the mount, from the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.
Mukama Katonda n’ampa ebipande bibiri eby’amayinja nga biwandiikiddwako n’engalo ya Katonda. Ku byo kwali kuwandiikiddwako amateeka Mukama ge yali abalangiridde ng’ali ku lusozi wakati mu muliro ku lunaku olwo nga mwenna mukuŋŋaanye.
11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, [that] the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, [even] the tables of the covenant.
Ku nkomerero y’ennaku amakumi ana n’ebiro amakumi ana Mukama Katonda n’ampa ebipande ebibiri eby’amayinja nga bye bipande eby’endagaano.
12 And the LORD said to me, Arise, go down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted [themselves]; they are quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
Awo Mukama Katonda n’aŋŋamba nti, “Situka ove mangu wano oserengete, kubanga abantu bo be waggya mu Misiri boonoonye. Beekyusizza mangu ne bava mu kkubo lye nabalagira okutambulirangamu, ne beekolera ekibumbe ekisaanuuse ekitali Katonda.”
13 Furthermore, the LORD spoke to me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it [is] a stiff-necked people:
Era Mukama Katonda ne yeeyongera n’aŋŋamba nti, “Neetegerezza abantu bano, ne ndaba nga bantu abalina ensingo enkakanyavu, nga ggwanga lya mputtu.
14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Leka mbazikirize, erinnya ly’eggwanga lyabwe ndisangulewo wansi w’eggulu. Ndikuggyamu eggwanga eddene era ery’amaanyi okusinga eggwanga lyabwe.”
15 So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant [were] in my two hands.
Bwe ntyo ne nkyuka ne nva ku lusozi ne nserengeta, ne ndeka ng’olusozi lwaka omuliro. Ebipande byombi eby’amateeka eby’endagaano nabirina mu mikono gyange gyombi.
16 And I looked, and behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, [and] had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly from the way which the LORD had commanded you.
Bwe natunula ne ndaba nga mwonoonye mu maaso ga Mukama Katonda wammwe; mwali mwekoledde ekitali Katonda nga mukibumbye okufaanana ng’ennyana; mwali mukyuse mangu okuva mu kkubo Mukama lye yali abalagidde.
17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
Bwe ntyo ne nzirira ebipande byombi bye nnali nkutte mu ngalo zange ne mbikasuka wansi ne byatikirayatikira mu maaso gammwe nga nammwe mulaba.
18 And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I neither ate bread, nor drank water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
Ate ne nziramu okweyala wansi awali Mukama Katonda okumala ennaku amakumi ana, emisana n’ekiro, Mukama bwe yali amaliridde okubazikiririza ddala yeefunire eggwanga eddala; ne sirya ku mmere wadde okunywa ku tuzzi okumala ennaku amakumi ana emisana n’ekiro, olw’ekibi kye mwali mukoze, bwe mwakola ebitasaana mu maaso ga Mukama Katonda ne mumusunguwaza.
19 (For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you.) But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also.
Ne ntya nnyo olw’obusungu bwa Mukama Katonda n’ekiruyi kye, kubanga yali abasunguwalidde nnyo ng’ayinza n’okubazikiriza. Naye era Mukama n’ampuliriza ne ku mulundi ogwo.
20 And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
Era Mukama yali asunguwalidde nnyo Alooni nga n’okumuzikiriza ayinza okumuzikiriza. Naye mu kiseera ekyo ne Alooni ne mmusabira nnyo.
21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, [and] ground [it] very small, [even] until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust of it into the brook that descended from the mount.
Ne nzirira ennyana eyabaleetera okusobya, ne ngyokya mu muliro. Ne ngisekulasekula ne ngisa, n’efuuka olufufugge. Olufufugge olwo ne nduyiwa mu kagga akaali kakulukutira ku lusozi olunene.
22 And at Taberah, and at Massah, and Kibroth-hattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.
Mukama, mwayongera okumusunguwaza bwe mwali e Tabera, n’e Masa, n’e Kiberosu Kataava.
23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
Era Mukama bwe yabasindika okuva e Kadesubanea, yabagamba nti, “Mwambuke mwetwalire ensi gye mbawadde.” Naye ne mujeemera ekiragiro kya Mukama Katonda wammwe. Temwamwesiga wadde okumugondera.
24 Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
Kasookedde mbamanya, ebbanga eryo lyonna mubadde mujeemera Mukama Katonda.
25 Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down [at the first]; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
Bwe ntyo ne nambaala ku ttaka nga neevuunise mu maaso ga Mukama, okumala ennaku amakumi ana emisana n’ekiro; kubanga Mukama Katonda yali agambye nti ajja kubazikiriza.
26 I prayed therefore to the LORD, and said, O LORD God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Ne nsaba Mukama nti, Ayi Mukama Katonda, bano be bantu bo, era obusika bwo bwennyini, be wanunula n’obaggya mu nsi ey’e Misiri n’omukono gwo ogw’amaanyi.
27 Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:
Nkusaba ojjukire abaddu bo, era abaweereza bo, Ibulayimu, ne Isaaka, ne Yakobo osonyiwe obukakanyavu bw’eggwanga lino, n’obunafu bwalyo n’ebibi byalyo.
28 Lest the land from which thou hast brought us should say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
Ab’omu nsi mwe watuggya baleme okugamba nti, “Olwokubanga Mukama yali tasobola kubatuusa mu nsi gye yabasuubiza, era olwokubanga yali abakyaye nnyo, kyeyava abaggyayo mu Misiri alyoke abattire mu ddungu.”
29 Yet they [are] thy people and thy inheritance which thou hast brought out by thy mighty power and by thy out-stretched arm.
Kubanga lino lye ggwanga lyo, be bantu bo ab’obusika bwo, be waggya mu Misiri n’obuyinza bwo obungi, n’omukono gwo ogw’amaanyi.
