Deuteronomy 7
1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perrizites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
あなたの神、主が、あなたの行って取る地にあなたを導き入れ、多くの国々の民、ヘテびと、ギルガシびと、アモリびと、カナンびと、ペリジびと、ヒビびと、およびエブスびと、すなわちあなたよりも数多く、また力のある七つの民を、あなたの前から追いはらわれる時、
2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee, thou shalt smite them [and] utterly destroy them, thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them:
すなわちあなたの神、主が彼らをあなたに渡して、これを撃たせられる時は、あなたは彼らを全く滅ぼさなければならない。彼らとなんの契約をもしてはならない。彼らに何のあわれみをも示してはならない。
3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give to his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take to thy son.
また彼らと婚姻をしてはならない。あなたの娘を彼のむすこに与えてはならない。かれの娘をあなたのむすこにめとってはならない。
4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
それは彼らがあなたのむすこを惑わしてわたしに従わせず、ほかの神々に仕えさせ、そのため主はあなたがたにむかって怒りを発し、すみやかにあなたがたを滅ぼされることとなるからである。
5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
むしろ、あなたがたはこのように彼らに行わなければならない。すなわち彼らの祭壇をこぼち、その石の柱を撃ち砕き、そのアシラ像を切り倒し、その刻んだ像を火で焼かなければならない。
6 For thou [art] a holy people to the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people to himself, above all people that [are] upon the face of the earth.
あなたはあなたの神、主の聖なる民である。あなたの神、主は地のおもてのすべての民のうちからあなたを選んで、自分の宝の民とされた。
7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye [were] the fewest of all people:
主があなたがたを愛し、あなたがたを選ばれたのは、あなたがたがどの国民よりも数が多かったからではない。あなたがたはよろずの民のうち、もっとも数の少ないものであった。
8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bond-men, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
ただ主があなたがたを愛し、またあなたがたの先祖に誓われた誓いを守ろうとして、主は強い手をもってあなたがたを導き出し、奴隷の家から、エジプトの王パロの手から、あがない出されたのである。
9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he [is] God, the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations:
それゆえあなたは知らなければならない。あなたの神、主は神にましまし、真実の神にましまして、彼を愛し、その命令を守る者には、契約を守り、恵みを施して千代に及び、
10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
また彼を憎む者には、めいめいに報いて滅ぼされることを。主は自分を憎む者には猶予することなく、めいめいに報いられる。
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
それゆえ、きょうわたしがあなたに命じる命令と、定めと、おきてとを守って、これを行わなければならない。
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God will keep to thee the covenant and the mercy which he swore to thy fathers:
あなたがたがこれらのおきてを聞いて守り行うならば、あなたの神、主はあなたの先祖たちに誓われた契約を守り、いつくしみを施されるであろう。
13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless thy children, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thy oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he swore to thy fathers to give thee.
あなたを愛し、あなたを祝福し、あなたの数を増し、あなたに与えると先祖たちに誓われた地で、あなたの子女を祝福し、あなたの地の産物、穀物、酒、油、また牛の子、羊の子を増されるであろう。
14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
あなたは万民にまさって祝福されるであろう。あなたのうち、男も女も子のないものはなく、またあなたの家畜にも子のないものはないであろう。
15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt (which thou knowest) upon thee; but will lay them upon all [them] that hate thee.
主はまたすべての病をあなたから取り去り、あなたの知っている、あのエジプトの悪疫にかからせず、ただあなたを憎むすべての者にそれを臨ませられるであろう。
16 And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver to thee; thy eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that [will be] a snare to thee.
あなたの神、主があなたに渡される国民を滅ぼしつくし、彼らを見てあわれんではならない。また彼らの神々に仕えてはならない。それがあなたのわなとなるからである。
17 If thou shalt say in thy heart, These nations [are] more than I, how can I dispossess them?
あなたは心のうちで『これらの国民はわたしよりも多いから、どうしてこれを追い払うことができようか』と言うのか。
18 Thou shalt not be afraid of them: [but] shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt;
彼らを恐れてはならない。あなたの神、主がパロと、すべてのエジプトびととにされたことを、よく覚えなさい。
19 The great temptations which thy eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the out-stretched arm, by which the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do to all the people of whom thou art afraid.
すなわち、あなたが目で見た大いなる試みと、しるしと、不思議と、強い手と、伸ばした腕とを覚えなさい。あなたの神、主はこれらをもって、あなたを導き出されたのである。またそのように、あなたの神、主はあなたが恐れているすべての民にされるであろう。
20 Moreover, the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, shall be destroyed.
あなたの神、主はまた、くまばちを彼らのうちに送って、なお残っている者と逃げ隠れている者を滅ぼしつくされるであろう。
21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God [is] among you, a mighty God and terrible.
あなたは彼らを恐れてはならない。あなたの神、主である大いなる恐るべき神があなたのうちにおられるからである。
22 And the LORD thy God will drive out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
あなたの神、主はこれらの国民を徐々にあなたの前から追い払われるであろう。あなたはすみやかに彼らを滅ぼしつくしてはならない。そうでなければ、野の獣が増してあなたを害するであろう。
23 But the LORD thy God shall deliver them to thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they are destroyed.
しかし、あなたの神、主は彼らをあなたに渡し、大いなる混乱におとしいれて、ついに滅ぼされるであろう。
24 And he shall deliver their kings into thy hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou shalt have destroyed them.
また彼らの王たちをあなたの手に渡されるであろう。あなたは彼らの名を天の下から消し去るであろう。あなたに立ちむかうものはなく、あなたはついに彼らを滅ぼすにいたるであろう。
25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold [that is] on them, nor take [it] to thee, lest thou shouldst be snared in it: for it [is] an abomination to the LORD thy God.
あなたは彼らの神々の彫像を火に焼かなければならない。それに着せた銀または金をむさぼってはならない。これを取って自分のものにしてはならない。そうでなければ、あなたはこれによって、わなにかかるであろう。これはあなたの神が忌みきらわれるものだからである。
26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thy house, lest thou shouldst be a cursed thing like it: [but] thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it [is] a cursed thing.
あなたは忌むべきものを家に持ちこんで、それと同じようにあなた自身も、のろわれたものとなってはならない。あなたはそれを全く忌みきらわなければならない。それはのろわれたものだからである。
