Deuteronomy 13
1 If there shall arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and give thee a sign or a wonder.
তোমাদের মধ্যে কোনো ভাববাদী বা স্বপ্নদর্শক যদি তোমাদের সামনে উপস্থিত হয় এবং তোমাদের কোনো আশ্চর্য চিহ্ন বা কাজের কথা বলে,
2 And the sign or the wonder shall come to pass, of which he spoke to thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
এবং যদি সেই আশ্চর্য চিহ্ন বা কাজ ঘটে, ও সেই ভাববাদী বলে, “চলো আমরা অন্য দেবতাদের অনুগামী হই (যে দেবতাদের সম্বন্ধে তোমরা জানো না) এবং তাদের পূজা করি,”
3 Thou shalt not hearken to the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
তোমরা সেই ভাববাদী বা স্বপ্নদর্শকের কথা শুনবে না। তোমরা তোমাদের সমস্ত মনপ্রাণ দিয়ে তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ভালোবাসো কি না তা জানার জন্য তিনি তোমাদের পরীক্ষায় ফেলেছেন।
4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave to him.
তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর কথামতো তোমাদের চলতে হবে এবং তাঁকে গভীর শ্রদ্ধা করতে হবে। তাঁর আজ্ঞা পালন করবে ও তাঁর বাধ্য হবে; তাঁর সেবা করবে এবং তাঁকে আঁকড়ে ধরবে।
5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn [you] away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou remove the evil from the midst of thee.
সেই ভাববাদী কিংবা স্বপ্নদর্শককে প্রাণদণ্ড দেবে কারণ তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, যিনি মিশর থেকে তোমাদের বের করে এনেছেন এবং সেই দাসত্বের দেশ থেকে তোমাদের মুক্ত করেছেন, সে তাঁরই বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহের উসকানি দিয়েছে। সেই ভাববাদী কিংবা স্বপ্নদর্শক তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যে পথে চলতে তোমাদের আদেশ করেছেন সেই পথ থেকে তোমাদের ফিরাতে চেষ্টা করেছে। তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে সেই দুষ্টতা তোমরা লোপ করে দেবে।
6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who [is] as thy own soul, shall entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
যদি তোমার নিজের ভাই, অথবা তোমার ছেলে বা মেয়ে, অথবা যে স্ত্রীকে তুমি ভালোবাসো, অথবা তোমার খুব কাছের বন্ধু গোপনে বিপথে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য বলে, “চলো আমরা অন্য দেবতার আরাধনা করি” (যে দেবতাদের তোমরা বা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা জানোনি,
7 [Namely], of the gods of the people who [are] around you, nigh to thee, or far off from thee, from [one] end of the earth even to the [other] end of the earth;
তোমাদের চারিদিকে, দূরে বা কাছে, দেশের এক প্রান্ত থেকে অপর প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত যে কোনও দেবতা হোক),
8 Thou shalt not consent to him, nor hearken to him; neither shall thy eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:
তাদের কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করবে না বা তাদের কথা শুনবে না। তাদের প্রতি কোনও করুণা করবে না। তাদের নিষ্কৃতি দেবে না কিংবা রক্ষা করবে না।
9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
তাদের অবশ্যই মেরে ফেলবে। তাদের মেরে ফেলার কাজটি তুমি নিজের হাতেই আরম্ভ করবে, তারপর অন্য সবাই মেরে ফেলবে।
10 And thou shalt stone him with stones that he shall die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt from the house of bondage.
যিনি তোমাকে মিশর দেশের দাসত্ব থেকে বের করে এনেছেন তোমার সেই ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর দিক থেকে সে তোমাকে ফিরাবার চেষ্টা করেছে বলে তাকে পাথর ছুঁড়ে মেরে ফেলবে।
11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is, among you.
তাতে ইস্রায়েলীরা সকলে সেই কথা শুনে ভয় পাবে এবং তোমাদের মধ্যে কেউ আর এরকম মন্দ কাজ করবে না।
12 If thou shalt hear, in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যেসব নগরে তোমাদের বসবাস করবার জন্য দিতে যাচ্ছেন তার কোনো একটির সম্বন্ধে হয়তো তোমরা শুনতে পাবে যে,
13 [Certain] men, the children of Belial, have gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
সেখানকার ইস্রায়েলীদের মধ্যে কিছু দুষ্টলোক উদিত হয়েছে যারা নগরবাসী লোকদের এই বলে বিপথে টেনে নিয়ে গিয়েছে, “চলো আমরা অন্য দেবতার আরাধনা করি” (যে দেবতাদের সম্বন্ধে তোমরা জানো না),
14 Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and behold, [if it is] truth, [and] the thing certain, [that] such abomination is wrought among you;
তবে তুমি জিজ্ঞাসা করবে, অনুসন্ধান করবে ও যত্নের সঙ্গে প্রশ্ন করবে। আর সেই কথা যদি সত্যি হয় এবং প্রমাণিত হয় যে তোমাদের মধ্যে এই ঘৃণ্য কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়েছে,
15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that [is] in it, and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.
তবে সেখানকার সব বাসিন্দাকে অবশ্যই তরোয়ালের আঘাতে মেরে ফেলতে হবে। সেই নগর এবং তার লোকজন ও পশুপাল তোমরা সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করে দেবে।
16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of its street, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil of it every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be a heap forever; it shalt not be built again.
সেখানকার সব লুট করা জিনিসপত্র তোমরা নগরের চকের মাঝখানে একত্র করে সেই নগর ও সেইসব জিনিসপত্র তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দেবে। তাতে সেই নগর চিরকালের জন্য ধ্বংসাবশেষ হয়ে থাকবে, সেটি আর কখনও যেন তৈরি করা না হয়,
17 And there shall cleave naught of the cursed thing to thy hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn to thy fathers;
এবং এসব বর্জিত জিনিসপত্রের একটিও যেন তোমাদের হাতে দেখা না যায়। তবে সদাপ্রভু তাঁর ভীষণ ক্রোধ থেকে ফিরবেন, তোমাদের প্রতি কৃপা করবেন ও করুণাবিষ্ট হবেন। তিনি তোমাদের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি করবেন, যেমন তিনি তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের কাছে প্রতিজ্ঞা করে শপথ করেছিলেন,
18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do [that which is] right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.
কারণ আজ আমি তোমাদের যেসব আদেশ দিচ্ছি তা পালন করবে এবং তাঁর দৃষ্টিতে যা ভালো তাই করে তোমরা তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বাধ্য হবে।
