Daniel 2

1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, with which his spirit was troubled, and his sleep broke from him.

E no segundo ano do reinado de Nabucodonozor sonhou Nabucodonosor sonhos; e o seu espírito se perturbou, e passou-se-lhe o seu sono.

2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to show the king his dream. So they came and stood before the king.

E o rei mandou chamar os magos, e os astrólogos, e os encantadores, e os caldeus, para que declarassem ao rei os seus sonhos: os quais vieram e se apresentaram diante do rei.

3 And the king said to them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.

E o rei lhes disse: Tive um sonho; e para saber o sonho está perturbado o meu espírito.

4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Syriac, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

E os caldeus disseram ao rei em syriaco: Ó rei, vive eternamente! dize o sonho a teus servos, e declararemos a interpretação.

5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known to me the dream, with the interpretation of it, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

Respondeu o rei, e disse aos caldeus: A coisa me tem escapado; se me não fizerdes saber o sonho e a sua interpretação, sereis despedaçados, e as vossas casas serão feitas um monturo;

6 But if ye shall show the dream, and the interpretation of it, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore show me the dream, and the interpretation of it.

Mas se vós me declarardes o sonho e a sua interpretação, recebereis de mim dons, e dádivas, e grande honra; portanto declarai-me o sonho e a sua interpretação.

7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation of it.

Responderam segunda vez, e disseram: Diga o rei o sonho a seus servos, e declararemos a sua interpretação.

8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.

Respondeu o rei, e disse: Conheço eu certamente que vós quereis ganhar tempo; porque vêdes que a coisa me tem escapado.

9 But if ye will not make known to me the dream, [there is but] one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can show me the interpretation of it.

De maneira que, se me não fazeis saber o sonho, uma só sentença será a vossa; pois vós preparastes palavras mentirosas e perversas para as proferir na minha presença, até que se mude o tempo: portanto dizei-me o sonho, para que eu entenda que me podeis declarar a sua interpretação.

10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore [there is] no king, lord, nor ruler, [that] hath asked such things of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

Responderam os caldeus na presença do rei, e disseram: Não há ninguém sobre a terra que possa declarar a palavra ao rei; pois nenhum rei há, grande ou dominador, que requeresse coisa semelhante de algum mago, ou astrólogo, ou caldeu.

11 And [it is] a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is no other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

Porque a coisa que o rei requer é difícil; nem há outro que a possa declarar diante do rei, senão os deuses, cuja morada não é com a carne.

12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise [men] of Babylon.

Por isso o rei muito se irou e enfureceu; e ordenou que matassem a todos os sábios de Babilônia.

13 And the decree went forth that the wise [men] should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

E saiu o mandado, e sairam a matar os sábios; e buscaram a Daniel e aos seus companheiros, para que fossem mortos.

14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, who had gone forth to slay the wise [men] of Babylon:

Então Daniel falou avisada e prudentemente a Arioch, capitão da guarda do rei, que tinha saído para matar os sábios de Babilônia.

15 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why [is] the decree [so] hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

Respondeu, e disse a Arioch, prefeito do rei: Porque se apressa tanto o mandado da parte do rei? Então Arioch fez saber a coisa a Daniel.

16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation.

E Daniel entrou; e pediu ao rei que lhe desse tempo, para declarar a interpretação ao rei.

17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

Então Daniel foi para a sua casa, e fez saber a coisa a Hananias, Misael e Azarias, seus companheiros:

18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise [men] of Babylon.

Para que pedissem misericórdia ao Deus do céu, sobre este segredo, afim de que Daniel e seus companheiros não perecessem, juntamente com o resto dos sábios de Babilônia.

19 Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

Então foi revelado o segredo a Daniel numa visão de noite: então Daniel louvou o Deus do céu.

20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

Falou Daniel, e disse: Seja bendito o nome de Deus desde o século até ao século, porque dele é a sabedoria e a força;

21 And he changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

E ele muda os tempos e as horas; ele remove os reis e estabelece os reis: ele dá sabedoria aos sábios e ciência aos entendidos.

22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what [is] in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

Ele revela o profundo e o escondido: conhece o que está em trevas, e com ele a luz mora.

23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known to me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast [now] made known to us the king's matter.

Ó Deus de meus pais, te louvo e celebro eu, que me deste sabedoria e força; e agora me fizeste saber o que te pedimos, porque nos fizeste saber a coisa do rei.

24 Therefore Daniel went into Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise [men] of Babylon: he went and said thus to him; Destroy not the wise [men] of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.

Por isso Daniel entrou a Arioch, ao qual o rei tinha constituido para matar os sábios de Babilônia: entrou, e disse-lhe assim: Não mates os sábios de Babilônia; introduze-me na presença do rei, e declararei ao rei a interpretação.

25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus to him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known to the king the interpretation.

Então Arioch depressa introduziu a Daniel na presença do rei, e disse-lhe assim: Achei um dentre os filhos dos cativos de Judá, o qual fará saber ao rei a interpretação.

26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation of it?

Respondeu o rei, e disse a Daniel (cujo nome era Belteshazzar): Podes tu fazer-me saber o sonho que vi e a sua interpretação?

27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded, the wise [men], the astrologers, the magicians, the sooth-sayers, cannot show to the king;

Respondeu Daniel na presença do rei, e disse: O segredo que o rei requer, nem sábios, nem astrólogos, nem magos, nem adivinhos o podem declarar ao rei;

28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

Mas há um Deus nos céus, o qual revela os segredos; ele pois fez saber ao rei Nabucodonozor o que há de ser no fim dos dias; o teu sonho e as visões da tua cabeça na tua cama são estas:

29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

Estando tu, ó rei, na tua cama, subiram os teus pensamentos, acerca do que há de ser depois disto. aquele pois que revela os segredos te fez saber o que há de ser.

30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for [any] wisdom that I have more than any living, but for [their] sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mayest know the thoughts of thy heart.

E a mim, não pela sabedoria que em mim haja, mais do que em todos os viventes, me foi revelado este segredo, mas para que a interpretação se fizesse saber ao rei, e para que entendesse os pensamentos do teu coração.

31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness [was] excellent, stood before thee; and its form [was] terrible.

Tu, ó rei, estavas vendo, e eis aqui uma grande estátua: esta estátua era grande, e o seu esplendor era excelente, e estava em pé diante de ti; e a sua vista era terrível.

32 The head of this image [was] of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,

A cabeça daquela estátua era de ouro fino; o seu peito e os seus braços de prata; o seu ventre e as suas coxas de cobre;

33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

As pernas de ferro; os seus pés em parte de ferro e em parte de barro.

34 Thou sawest till a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet [that were] of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

Estavas vendo, até que uma pedra foi cortada, sem mão, a qual feriu a estátua nos pés de ferro e de barro, e os esmiuçou.

35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Então foi juntamente esmiuçado o ferro, o barro, o cobre, a prata e o ouro, e se fizeram como pragana das eiras do estio, e o vento os levou, e não se achou lugar algum para eles; mas a pedra, que feriu a estátua, se fez um grande monte, e encheu toda a terra.

36 This [is] the dream; and we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.

Este é o sonho; também a interpretação dele diremos na presença do rei

37 Thou, O king, [art] a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

Tu, ó rei, és rei de reis: pois o Deus do céu te tem dado o reino, a potência, e a força, e a magestade.

38 And wherever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou [art] this head of gold.

E onde quer que habitem filhos de homens, bestas do campo, e aves do céu, tos entregou na tua mão, e fez que dominasses sobre todos eles; tu és a cabeça de ouro.

39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

E depois de ti se levantará outro reino, inferior ao teu; e outro terceiro reino, de metal, o qual dominará sobre toda a terra.

40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all [things]: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

E o quarto reino será forte como ferro; da maneira que o ferro esmiuça e enfraquece tudo, como o ferro, que quebranta todas estas coisas, assim esmiuçará e quebrantará.

41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potter's clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with the miry clay.

E, quanto ao que viste dos pés e dos dedos, em parte de barro de oleiro, e em parte de ferro, isso será um reino dividido; contudo haverá nele alguma coisa da firmeza do ferro, porquanto viste o ferro misturado com barro de lodo.

42 And [as] the toes of the feet [were] part of iron, and part of clay, [so] the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

E os dedos dos pés, em parte de ferro e em parte de barro, querem dizer: por uma parte o reino será forte, e por outra será frágil.

43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

Quanto ao que viste do ferro misturado com barro de lodo, misturar-se-ão com semente humana, mas não se apegarão um ao outro, assim como o ferro se não mistura com o barro.

44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Mas, nos dias destes reis, o Deus do céu levantará um reino que não será jamais destruído; e este reino não será deixado a outro povo: esmiuçará e consumirá todos estes reinos, mas ele mesmo estará estabelecido para sempre.

45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain, without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation of it sure.

Da maneira que viste que do monte foi cortada uma pedra, sem mãos, e ela esmiuçou o ferro, o cobre, o barro, a prata e o ouro, o Deus grande fez saber ao rei o que há de ser depois disto; e certo é o sonho, e fiel a sua interpretação.

46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors to him.

Então o rei Nabucodonozor caiu sobre o seu rosto, e adorou a Daniel, e ordenou que lhe sacrificassem oferta de manjares e perfumes suaves.

47 The king answered to Daniel, and said, Of a truth [it is], that your God [is] a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldst reveal this secret.

Respondeu o rei a Daniel, e disse: Certo é que o vosso Deus é Deus de deuses, e o Senhor dos reis, e o revelador dos segredos, pois pudeste revelar este segredo.

48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise [men] of Babylon.

Então o rei engrandeceu a Daniel, e lhe deu muitos e grandes dons, e o pôs por governador de toda a província de Babilônia, como também por príncipe dos prefeitos sobre todos os sábios de Babilônia.

49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel [sat] in the gate of the king.

E pediu Daniel ao rei, e constituiu ele sobre os negócios da província de Babilônia a Sadrach, Mesach e Abed-nego; porém Daniel estava à porta do rei.
