Acts 15
1 And certain men who came down from Judea, taught the brethren, [and said], Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
ある人たちがユダヤから下って来て，兄弟たちにこう教えていた。「モーセの慣習に従って割礼を受けない限り，あなた方は救われない」。
2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, should go to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.
それで，パウロやバルナバと彼らとの間に少なからぬ不和と議論が生じたので，人々は，パウロとバルナバ，および自分たちのうちのほかの幾人かがエルサレムに上り，この議論のことで使徒たちや長老たちを訪ねることを決めた。
3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice, and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy to all the brethren.
彼らは集会によって送り出され，フェニキアとサマリアを通り抜け，異邦人たちの改宗の次第を詳しく説明して，すべての兄弟たちを大いに喜ばせた。
4 And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
エルサレムに着くと，集会と使徒たちと長老たちから迎えられ，神が自分たちと共に行なった事柄すべてを報告した。
5 But there rose certain of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses.
ところが，信者となっていた幾人かのファリサイ派の者たちが立ち上がって，こう言った。「彼らに割礼を施して，モーセの律法を守るようにと命じることが必要です」。
6 And the apostles and elders came together to consider of this matter.
使徒たちや長老たちは，この問題について調べるために集まった。
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose and said to them, Men, brethren, ye know that a good while ago, God made choice among us, that the Gentiles, by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
多くの議論があったのち，ペトロが立ち上がって彼らに言った，「兄弟たち，ご存じのとおり，ずっと以前に，神はあなた方の間からわたしを選ばれ，異邦人たちがわたしの口から福音の言葉を聞いて信じるようにされました。
8 And God, who knoweth the hearts, bore them witness, giving to them the Holy Spirit, even as [he did] to us:
心を知っておられる神は，わたしたちにされたのと同じようにして彼らに聖霊をお与えになり，彼らについて証言されたのです。
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
神は，わたしたちと彼らとの間に区別を設けずに，彼らの心を信仰によって清められました。
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
それなのに，どうして今，わたしたちの父祖たちもわたしたちも負うことのできなかったくびきをあの弟子たちの首にかけて，神を試みるのですか。
11 But we believe, that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved even as they.
それどころか，わたしたちは，彼らと同じく主イエスの恵みによって救われることを信じているのです」。
12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought by them among the Gentiles.
群衆はみな静かになった。そして，バルナバとパウロが，彼らを通して神が異邦人たちの間で行なったしるしや不思議な業について報告するのに耳を傾けた。
13 And after they held their peace, James answered, saying, Men, brethren, hearken to me.
二人が話し終えると，ヤコブが答えた，「兄弟たち，わたしの言うことを聞いてください。
14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take from among them a people for his name.
シメオンは，神が最初に異邦人たちを気にかけて，その中からご自分のみ名のために民を取り出された次第を話してくれました。
15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
これは預言者たちの言葉と一致しています。こう書かれているとおりです。
16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins of it; and I will set it up:
『これらの事ののち，わたしは戻って来て，ダビデの倒れた幕屋を建て直し，その廃虚を建て直すだろう。それを元どおりにするだろう。
17 That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
残っている者たち，わたしの名によって呼ばれるすべての異邦人たちが主を探し求めるようになるために。これらのすべての事を行なわれる主が言われる。
神にとってそのすべての業は遠い昔から知らされているのである』。 (aiōn g165)
19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, who from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
「それで，わたしの意見はこうです。すなわち，わたしたちは，異邦人たちの中から神に立ち返った人たちを悩ませることはせず，
20 But that we write to them that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and [from] lewdness, and [from] things strangled, and [from] blood.
ただ，偶像に汚されたものと，淫行と，絞め殺されたものと，血を避けるようにと，彼らに書き送るのがよいでしょう。
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.
モーセについては，昔からどの町にも宣教する者たちがおり，安息日ごとに諸会堂で朗読されているからです」。
22 Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas; [namely], Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
そこで，使徒たちと長老たちは，集会全体と共に，自分たちの中から人を選んで，パウロやバルナバと一緒にアンティオキアに遣わすのがよいと考えた。すなわち，バルサバスと呼ばれるユダとシラスで，兄弟たちの間で主立った人たちであった。
23 And they wrote [letters] by them after this manner; The apostles, and elders, and brethren, [send] greeting to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia.
彼らは次のように書いてこの人たちの手に託した。 「使徒たち，長老たち，および兄弟たちから，アンティオキア，シリア，キリキアにいる異邦人の兄弟たちへ。あいさつを送ります。
24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain who went out from us, have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, [Ye must] be circumcised, and keep the law; to whom we gave no [such] commandment:
わたしたちの中から行ったある者たちが，いろいろな言葉によってあなた方を悩ませ，わたしたちが命じてもいないのに，「あなた方は割礼を受けて，律法を守らなければならない」と言って，あなた方の魂を乱したことを聞きましたので，
25 It seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you, with our beloved Barnabas and Paul:
わたしたちは満場一致で，人を選んで，わたしたちの愛するバルナバやパウロと共に，あなた方のもとに遣わすのがよいと考えました。
26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
この二人は，わたしたちの主イエス・キリストのみ名のために，自分の命をかけている者たちです。
27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who will also tell [you] the same things by mouth.
それで，わたしたちはユダとシラスを遣わしますが，この二人も同じことを口頭であなた方に告げるでしょう。
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
というのは，聖霊とわたしたちとは，次の必要な事柄のほかには，あなた方にいかなる重荷も負わせないのがよいと考えたからです。
29 That ye abstain from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from lewdness: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye will do well. Fare ye well.
すなわち，偶像に汚されたものと，血と，絞め殺されたものと，淫行を避けることです。これらのものから身を守っていればよいのです。ご健勝で」。
30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had convened the multitude, they delivered the epistle.
こうして，彼らは送り出されて，アンティオキアに着いた。集団を集めて，手紙を手渡した。
31 [Which] when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
これを読むと，人々はその励ましに喜んだ。
32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed [them].
ユダとシラスは，彼ら自身も預言者であったので，多くの言葉をもって兄弟たちを励まし，元気づけた。
33 And after they had tarried [there] a time, they were dismissed in peace from the brethren to the apostles.
しばらくの間そこで過ごしてから，兄弟たちからのあいさつを携えて再び使徒たちのもとに送り出された。
34 Notwithstanding, it pleased Silas to abide there still.
35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
しかし，パウロとバルナバはアンティオキアにとどまり，他の多くの人たちと共に，主の言葉を教え，宣教していた。
36 And some days after, Paul said to Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren, in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, [and see] how they do.
数日後，パウロはバルナバに言った，「さあ，もう一度行って，わたしたちが主の言葉を宣明したすべての町にいるわたしたちの兄弟たちを訪ね，彼らがどうしているかを見て来ようではないか」。
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
バルナバは，マルコと呼ばれるヨハネを一緒に連れて行くつもりであった。
38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
しかしパウロは，パンフィリアで自分たちから離れ，同行して業を行なわなかったような者は，一緒に連れて行かないほうがよいと考えた。
39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed, separating one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed to Cyprus.
それで，激しい口論が起こり，彼らは互いに別れることになった。バルナバはマルコを連れ，キュプロスへ出航した。
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God.
一方，パウロはシラスを選び，兄弟たちから神の恵みにゆだねられて出発した。
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
シリアとキリキアを通り抜けながら，各地の集会を強めた。
