Acts 12
1 Now about that time, Herod the king stretched forth [his] hands to afflict certain of the church.
Por aquel tiempo, el rey Herodes extendió sus manos para oprimir a algunos de la asamblea.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
Mató a Santiago, el hermano de Juan, con la espada.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. Then were the days of unleavened bread.
Al ver que esto agradaba a los judíos, procedió a apresar también a Pedro. Esto ocurrió durante los días de los panes sin levadura.
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after the passover to bring him forth to the people.
Cuando lo detuvo, lo metió en la cárcel y lo entregó a cuatro escuadrones de cuatro soldados cada uno para que lo custodiaran, con la intención de sacarlo al pueblo después de la Pascua.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing by the church to God for him.
Así pues, Pedro fue retenido en la cárcel, pero la asamblea oraba constantemente por él a Dios.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains; and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
La misma noche en que Herodes iba a sacarlo, Pedro dormía entre dos soldados, atado con dos cadenas. Los guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la prisión.
7 And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon [him], and a light shined in the prison; and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise quickly. And his chains fell off from [his] hands.
Y he aquí que un ángel del Señor se puso junto a él, y una luz brilló en la celda. Golpeó a Pedro en el costado y lo despertó, diciendo: “¡Levántate rápido!”. Las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos.
8 And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals; and so he did. And he saith to him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
El ángel le dijo: “Vístete y ponte las sandalias”. Así lo hizo. Le dijo: “Ponte la capa y sígueme”.
9 And he went out, and followed him, and knew not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
Y salió y le siguió. No sabía que lo que hacía el ángel era real, sino que creía ver una visión.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came to the iron gate that leadeth to the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
Cuando pasaron la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que da acceso a la ciudad, que se les abrió sola. Salieron y bajaron por una calle, e inmediatamente el ángel se alejó de él.
11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I know with certainty, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and [from] all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Cuando Pedro volvió en sí, dijo: “Ahora sé verdaderamente que el Señor ha enviado a su ángel y me ha librado de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que el pueblo judío esperaba.”
12 And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were assembled, praying.
Pensando en esto, llegó a la casa de María, la madre de Juan, que se llamaba Marcos, donde había muchos reunidos y orando.
13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
Cuando Pedro llamó a la puerta del portal, una sirvienta llamada Roda vino a responder.
14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate
Al reconocer la voz de Pedro, no abrió la puerta de alegría, sino que entró corriendo e informó de que Pedro estaba delante de la puerta.
15 And they said to her, Thou art insane. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then they said, It is his angel.
Le dijeron: “¡Estás loca!” Pero ella insistió en que era así. Le dijeron: “Es su ángel”.
16 But Peter continued knocking. And when they had opened [the door], and saw him, they were astonished.
Pero Pedro siguió llamando. Cuando abrieron, lo vieron y se asombraron.
17 But he beckoning to them with the hand to hold their peace, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go, show these things to James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Pero él, haciéndoles una señal con la mano para que se callaran, les contó cómo el Señor le había sacado de la cárcel. Dijo: “Contad estas cosas a Santiago y a los hermanos”. Luego partió y se fue a otro lugar.
18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
Tan pronto como se hizo de día, hubo no poco revuelo entre los soldados acerca de lo que había sucedido con Pedro.
19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that [they] should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Cesarea, and [there] abode.
Cuando Herodes lo buscó y no lo encontró, examinó a los guardias y ordenó que los mataran. Bajó de Judea a Cesarea y se quedó allí.
20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon. But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace, because their country was nourished by the king's [country].
Herodes estaba muy enojado con los habitantes de Tiro y Sidón. Ellos acudieron de común acuerdo a él y, habiendo hecho amigo a Blasto, el ayudante personal del rey, le pidieron la paz, porque su país dependía del país del rey para alimentarse.
21 And upon a set day, Herod arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration to them.
El día señalado, Herodes se vistió con ropas reales, se sentó en el trono y les dirigió un discurso.
22 And the people gave a shout, [saying], [It is] the voice of a god, and not of a man.
El pueblo gritó: “¡La voz de un dios y no de un hombre!”
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten by worms, and died.
Inmediatamente un ángel del Señor lo golpeó, porque no le dio la gloria a Dios. Entonces fue devorado por los gusanos y murió.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.
Pero la palabra de Dios crecía y se multiplicaba.
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled [their] ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
Bernabé y Saulo volvieron a Jerusalén cuando cumplieron su servicio, llevando también consigo a Juan, que se llamaba Marcos.
