Acts 11
1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judea, heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
Les apôtres et les frères qui étaient en Judée apprirent que les païens aussi avaient reçu la parole de Dieu.
2 And when Peter had come to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
Lorsque Pierre fut monté à Jérusalem, ceux de la circoncision le contestèrent,
3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
en disant: « Tu es allé vers des incirconcis et tu as mangé avec eux. »
4 But Peter rehearsed [the matter] from the beginning, and expounded [it] by order to them, saying,
Pierre commença, et leur expliqua dans l'ordre, en disant:
5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
« J'étais dans la ville de Joppé, en train de prier, et j'ai eu une vision: un récipient qui descendait, comme une grande toile tendue du ciel par quatre coins. Il arriva jusqu'à moi.
6 Upon which when I had fastened my eyes, I considered, and saw four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping animals, and fowls of the air.
Après l'avoir regardé attentivement, j'ai considéré et j'ai vu les quadrupèdes de la terre, les animaux sauvages, les reptiles et les oiseaux du ciel.
7 And I heard a voice saying to me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
J'entendis aussi une voix qui me disait: « Lève-toi, Pierre, tue et mange! »
8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
Mais je disais: « Non, Seigneur, car il n'est jamais entré dans ma bouche rien de souillé ni d'impur ».
9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common.
Mais, pour la seconde fois, une voix me répondit du ciel: « Ce que Dieu a purifié, ne l'appelle pas impur.
10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
Cela se passa trois fois, et tous remontèrent au ciel.
11 And behold, immediately there were three men already come to the house where I was, sent from Cesarea to me.
Aussitôt, trois hommes se présentèrent devant la maison où j'étais, envoyés de Césarée vers moi.
12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover, these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:
L'Esprit me dit d'aller avec eux sans distinction. Ces six frères m'accompagnèrent aussi, et nous entrâmes dans la maison de cet homme.
13 And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
Il nous raconta qu'il avait vu l'ange se tenir dans sa maison et lui dire: « Envoie à Joppé chercher Simon, surnommé Pierre,
14 Who shall tell thee words, by which thou and all thy house shall be saved.
qui te dira les paroles par lesquelles tu seras sauvé, toi et toute ta maison ».
15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
Comme je commençais à parler, le Saint-Esprit tomba sur eux, comme sur nous au commencement.
16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Et je me suis souvenu de la parole du Seigneur, qui a dit: « Jean a baptisé dans l'eau, mais vous, vous serez baptisés dans l'Esprit Saint ».
17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as [he did] to us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I that I could withstand God?
Si donc Dieu leur a accordé le même don qu'à nous, lorsque nous avons cru au Seigneur Jésus-Christ, qui étais-je, pour résister à Dieu? »
18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance to life.
Quand ils entendirent ces choses, ils gardèrent le silence et glorifièrent Dieu, en disant: « Alors Dieu a aussi accordé aux païens la repentance à la vie! »
19 Now they who were dispersed upon the persecution that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only.
Ceux donc qui avaient été dispersés par l'oppression qui s'était élevée au sujet d'Étienne, allèrent jusqu'en Phénicie, à Chypre et à Antioche, ne parlant à personne, sinon aux Juifs seulement.
20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux, hommes de Chypre et de Cyrène, arrivèrent à Antioche et s'adressèrent aux Hellènes, prêchant le Seigneur Jésus.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned to the Lord.
La main du Seigneur était avec eux, et un grand nombre crurent et se tournèrent vers le Seigneur.
22 Then tidings of these things came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
Le bruit qui courut à leur sujet parvint aux oreilles de l'assemblée qui était à Jérusalem. Ils envoyèrent Barnabas jusqu'à Antioche,
23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all that with purpose of heart they would cleave to the Lord.
lequel, après être arrivé et avoir vu la grâce de Dieu, se réjouit. Il les exhorta tous à s'attacher de tout leur cœur au Seigneur.
24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith: and many people were added to the Lord.
Car c'était un homme de bien, plein de l'Esprit Saint et de foi, et beaucoup de gens furent ajoutés au Seigneur.
25 Then Barnabas departed to Tarsus, to seek Saul:
Barnabas partit pour Tarse, à la recherche de Saul.
26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
L'ayant trouvé, il l'emmena à Antioche. Pendant toute une année, ils furent réunis avec l'assemblée, et ils enseignèrent beaucoup de gens. C'est à Antioche que les disciples ont été appelés chrétiens pour la première fois.
27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem to Antioch.
En ces jours-là, des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche.
28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cesar.
L'un d'eux, nommé Agabus, se leva et annonça par l'Esprit qu'il devait y avoir une grande famine dans le monde entier, ce qui arriva aussi du temps de Claude.
29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren who dwelt in Judea.
Tous les disciples, qui étaient dans l'abondance, résolurent d'envoyer des secours aux frères qui habitaient la Judée,
30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
ce qu'ils firent aussi, en les envoyant aux anciens par les mains de Barnabas et de Saul.
