2 Kings 23

1 And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

Als sie nun dem König Bericht erstattet hatten, sandte der König Boten aus, daß sie alle Ältesten von Juda und Jerusalem bei ihm versammelten.

2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.

Hierauf ging der König zum Tempel des HERRN hinauf und mit ihm alle Männer von Juda und alle Bewohner Jerusalems, auch die Priester und die Propheten, überhaupt das ganze Volk, klein und groß; und er las ihnen den ganzen Inhalt des Bundesbuches vor, das man im Tempel des HERRN gefunden hatte.

3 And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all [their] heart and all [their] soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

Hierauf trat der König an die Säule und schloß den Bund vor dem HERRN, daß sie dem HERRN nachwandeln und seine Gebote, seine Verordnungen und seine Satzungen mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele beobachten wollten, um so den Bestimmungen dieses Bundes, die in diesem Buche geschrieben standen, Geltung zu verschaffen. Und das gesamte Volk trat dem Bunde bei.

4 And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Beth-el.

Hierauf befahl der König dem Hohenpriester Hilkia und den Priestern zweiter Ordnung und den Schwellenhütern, alle Geräte, die für Baal und Astarte und für das ganze Sternenheer des Himmels angefertigt worden waren, aus dem Tempel des HERRN hinauszuschaffen; er ließ sie dann außerhalb Jerusalems auf den Feldern am Kidron verbrennen und ihre Asche nach Bethel bringen.

5 And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; them also that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

Sodann setzte er die Götzenpriester ab, welche die Könige von Juda eingesetzt hatten und die auf den Höhen in den Ortschaften Judas und in der Umgegend von Jerusalem geopfert, sowie die, welche dem Baal, der Sonne und dem Monde, den Bildern des Tierkreises und dem ganzen Sternenheer des Himmels Opfer dargebracht hatten.

6 And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped [it] small to powder, and cast the powder of it upon the graves of the children of the people.

Ferner ließ er das Standbild der Aschera aus dem Tempel des HERRN hinaus vor die Tore Jerusalems in das Kidrontal schaffen und es dort verbrennen und zu Staub zerstampfen und den Staub davon auf die Gräber der gemeinen Leute werfen.

7 And he broke down the houses of the sodomites that [were] by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.

Sodann ließ er die Stuben der Heiligtumsbuhler niederreißen, die sich im Tempel des HERRN befanden und in denen die Weiber Hüllen für Astarte zu weben pflegten.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burnt incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba, and broke down the high places of the gates that [were] in the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which [were] on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

Weiter ließ er alle Priester aus den Ortschaften Judas kommen und die Höhen entweihen, auf denen die Priester geopfert hatten, von Geba bis Beerseba; auch ließ er die Höhen der Bocksgestalten niederreißen, die am Eingang des Tores des Stadthauptmannes Josua auf der linken Seite standen, wenn man zum Stadttor hineinging.

9 Nevertheless, the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

Doch durften die Höhenpriester nicht den Opferdienst auf dem Altar des HERRN in Jerusalem versehen, wohl aber aßen sie die ungesäuerten Brote inmitten ihrer Amtsbrüder.

10 And he defiled Topheth, which [is] in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

Auch die Greuelstätte, die im Tal Ben-Hinnom lag, ließ er entweihen, damit niemand mehr seinen Sohn oder seine Tochter dem Moloch als Brandopfer darbrächte.

11 And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which [was] in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

Ferner ließ er die Rosse beseitigen, welche die Könige von Juda zu Ehren des Sonnengottes am Eingang zum Tempel des HERRN in der Richtung nach der Zelle des Kämmerers Nethan-Melech, im Parwarim aufgestellt hatten, und ließ den Sonnenwagen im Feuer verbrennen.

12 And the altars that [were] on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and broke [them] down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

Auch die Altäre, die auf dem Dach, dem Söller des Ahas, standen und von den Königen von Juda herrührten, sowie die Altäre, welche Manasse in den beiden Vorhöfen des Tempels des HERRN errichtet hatte, ließ der König niederreißen und zerschlagen und den Schutt von ihnen in das Kidrontal werfen.

13 And the high places that [were] before Jerusalem, which [were] on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

Auch die Höhen, die östlich von Jerusalem, südlich vom Unheilsberge lagen, die der König Salomo von Israel zu Ehren der Astarte, des greulichen Götzen der Sidonier, und für Kamos, das Scheusal der Moabiter, und für Milkom, den greulichen Götzen der Ammoniter, errichtet hatte, ließ der König entweihen;

14 And he broke in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.

ebenso zertrümmerte er die Malsteine und ließ die Götzenbäume umhauen und ihren Platz mit Menschengebeinen anfüllen.

15 Moreover, the altar that [was] at Beth-el, [and] the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down, and burned the high place, [and] stamped [it] small to powder, and burned the grove.

Aber auch den Altar zu Bethel, die Höhe, welche Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführte, hergestellt hatte, auch diesen Altar samt der Höhe ließ er niederreißen; er verwüstete die Höhe mit Feuer, zermalmte sie zu Staub und verbrannte das Standbild der Aschera.

16 And as Josiah turned himself, he espied the sepulchers that [were] there on the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchers, and burned [them] upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

Als Josia dabei umherblickte und die Gräber dort am Bergabhang wahrnahm, sandte er Leute hin, ließ die Gebeine aus den Gräbern herausnehmen und auf dem Altar verbrennen und entweihte ihn auf diese Weise gemäß der Drohung des HERRN, die der Gottesmann einst ausgesprochen hatte, der diese Dinge voraussagte.

17 Then he said, What title [is] that which I see? And the men of the city told him, [It is] the sepulcher of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth-el.

Als er dann fragte: »Was ist das für ein Grabmal, das ich dort sehe?«, antworteten ihm die Leute der Stadt: »Das ist das Grab des Gottesmannes, der aus Juda gekommen war und das angesagt hat, was du jetzt am Altar von Bethel getan hast.«

18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

Da befahl er: »Laßt ihn liegen, niemand störe seine Gebeine in ihrer Ruhe!« So ließ man denn seine Gebeine unversehrt samt den Gebeinen des Propheten, der aus Samaria war. –

19 And all the houses also of the high places that [were] in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke [the LORD] to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth-el.

Außerdem beseitigte Josia auch alle Höhenheiligtümer, die sich in den Ortschaften Samarias befanden und die von den israelitischen Königen angelegt waren, um (den HERRN) zum Zorn zu reizen; er verfuhr mit ihnen gerade so, wie er zu Bethel verfahren war.

20 And he slew all the priests of the high places, that [were] there upon the altars, and burnt men's bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.

Alle Höhenpriester aber, die daselbst waren, ließ er auf den Altären schlachten und Menschengebeine darauf verbrennen; alsdann kehrte er nach Jerusalem zurück.

21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God, as [it is] written in the book of this covenant.

Hierauf ließ der König folgenden Befehl an das ganze Volk ergehen: »Feiert das Passahfest zu Ehren des HERRN, eures Gottes, so wie es in diesem Bundesbuche geschrieben steht!«

22 Surely there was not held such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah.

Denn ein solches Passah wie dieses war nicht gefeiert worden seit der Zeit der Richter, die in Israel gewaltet hatten, und während der ganzen Zeit der Könige von Israel und der Könige von Juda;

23 But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, [in which] this passover was held to the LORD in Jerusalem.

vielmehr erst im achtzehnten Regierungsjahre des Königs Josia wurde dieses Passah zu Ehren des HERRN in Jerusalem begangen.

24 Moreover the [workers with] familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

Außerdem rottete Josia auch die Totenbeschwörer und Zeichendeuter, die Hausgötter und die Götzen, überhaupt alle Abgötter aus, die im Lande Juda und in Jerusalem zu sehen waren, um den Bestimmungen des Gesetzes nachzukommen, die in dem Buch, das der Priester Hilkia im Tempel des HERRN gefunden hatte, geschrieben standen.

25 And like him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there [any] like him.

Und seinesgleichen hat es vor ihm keinen König gegeben, der sich so von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele und mit aller seiner Kraft dem HERRN ganz nach dem mosaischen Gesetze zugewandt hätte, und auch nach ihm ist keiner seinesgleichen erstanden.

26 Notwithstanding, the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations by which Manasseh had provoked him.

Gleichwohl ließ der HERR von der gewaltigen Glut seines Zornes nicht ab, weil sein Zorn einmal gegen Juda entbrannt war wegen all der Ärgernisse, durch die Manasse ihn erbittert hatte.

27 And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will reject this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

Daher sprach der HERR: »Auch Juda will ich mir aus den Augen schaffen, wie ich Israel verstoßen habe, und will diese Stadt verwerfen, die ich einst erwählt hatte, Jerusalem, und das Haus, von dem ich einst gesagt hatte, mein Name solle daselbst wohnen.«

28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Die übrige Geschichte Josias aber und alles, was er unternommen hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Juda.

29 In his days Pharaoh-nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

Während seiner Regierung zog der Pharao Necho, der König von Ägypten, gegen den König von Assyrien zu Felde an den Euphratstrom. Der König Josia zog ihm entgegen, aber (Necho) tötete ihn bei Megiddo, sobald er seiner ansichtig geworden war.

30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulcher. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.

Da fuhren seine Diener ihn zu Wagen tot von Megiddo hinweg, brachten ihn nach Jerusalem und setzten ihn in seiner Grabstätte bei. Die Landbevölkerung nahm dann Joahas, den Sohn Josias, salbte ihn und machte ihn zum König an seines Vaters Statt.

31 Jehoahaz [was] twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name [was] Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Im Alter von dreiundzwanzig Jahren wurde Joahas König und regierte drei Monate in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Hamutal und war die Tochter Jeremias von Libna.

32 And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, ganz so wie seine Väter getan hatten.

33 And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and subjected the land to a tribute of a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

Der Pharao Necho aber ließ ihn zu Ribla in der Landschaft Hamath ins Gefängnis werfen, damit er nicht länger König in Jerusalem wäre, und legte dem Lande eine Geldbuße von hundert Talenten Silber und einem Talent Gold auf.

34 And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt and died there.

Sodann machte der Pharao Necho Eljakim, den Sohn Josias, zum König an Stelle seines Vaters Josia und änderte seinen Namen in Jojakim ab; den Joahas aber nahm er mit sich; so kam dieser nach Ägypten und starb daselbst.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold from the people of the land, from every one according to his taxation, to give [it] to Pharaoh-nechoh.

Das Silber und das Gold lieferte Jojakim dem Pharao ab, mußte jedoch seinem Lande eine besondere Steuer auferlegen, um das Geld nach der Forderung des Pharaos zahlen zu können: je nachdem ein jeder abgeschätzt worden war, trieb er das Silber und das Gold von der Bevölkerung des Landes ein, um es dann dem Pharao Necho zu übergeben.

36 Jehoiakim [was] twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name [was] Zebudah, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

Im Alter von fünfundzwanzig Jahren wurde Jojakim König und regierte elf Jahre in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Sebudda und war die Tochter Pedajas aus Ruma.

37 And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, ganz so wie seine Väter getan hatten.
