2 Kings 2
1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。
2 And Elijah said to Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Beth-el.
エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。
3 And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.
ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
4 And Elijah said to him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
エリヤは彼に言った、「エリシャよ、どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをエリコにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはエリコへ行った。
5 And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Jericho came to Elisha, and said to him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day? And he answered, Yes, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.
エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
6 And Elijah said to him, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
エリヤはまた彼に言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをヨルダンにつかわされるのですから」。しかし彼は言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そしてふたりは進んで行った。
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
預言者のともがら五十人も行って、彼らにむかって、はるかに離れて立っていた。彼らふたりは、ヨルダンのほとりに立ったが、
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped [it] together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、ふたりはかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。
9 And it came to pass, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
彼らが渡ったとき、エリヤはエリシャに言った、「わたしが取られて、あなたを離れる前に、あなたのしてほしい事を求めなさい」。エリシャは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: [nevertheless], if thou shalt see me [when I am] taken from thee, it shall be so to thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].
エリヤは言った、「あなたはむずかしい事を求める。あなたがもし、わたしが取られて、あなたを離れるのを見るならば、そのようになるであろう。しかし見ないならば、そのようにはならない」。
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。
12 And Elisha saw [it], and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where [is] the LORD God of Elijah? And when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。
15 And when the sons of the prophets who [were] to view at Jericho, saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。そして彼らは来て彼を迎え、その前に地に伏して、
16 And they said to him, Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest perhaps the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
彼に言った、「しもべらの所に力の強い者が五十人います。どうぞ彼らをつかわして、あなたの主人を尋ねさせてください。主の霊が彼を引きあげて、彼を山か谷に投げたのかも知れません」。エリシャは「つかわしてはならない」と言ったが、
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
彼の恥じるまで、しいたので、彼は「つかわしなさい」と言った。それで彼らは五十人の者をつかわし、三日の間尋ねたが、彼を見いださなかった。
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho, ) he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not?
エリシャのなおエリコにとどまっている時、彼らが帰ってきたので、エリシャは彼らに言った、「わたしは、あなたがたに、行ってはならないと告げたではないか」。
19 And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city [is] pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water [is] bad, and the ground barren.
町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought [it] to him.
エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。
21 And he went forth to the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].
エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。
22 So the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.
こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。
23 And he went up from thence to Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, thou bald-head; go up, thou bald-head.
彼はそこからベテルへ上ったが、上って行く途中、小さい子供らが町から出てきて彼をあざけり、彼にむかって「はげ頭よ、のぼれ。はげ頭よ、のぼれ」と言ったので、
24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tore forty and two children of them.
彼はふり返って彼らを見、主の名をもって彼らをのろった。すると林の中から二頭の雌ぐまが出てきて、その子供らのうち四十二人を裂いた。
25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
彼はそこからカルメル山へ行き、そこからサマリヤに帰った。
