2 Kings 18

1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, [that] Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz, rey de Judá.

2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also [was] Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

Tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Abi, hija de Zacarías.

3 And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

Hizo lo que era justo a los ojos del Señor, conforme a todo lo que había hecho su padre David.

4 He removed the high places, and broke the images, and cut down the groves, and broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: for till those days the children of Israel burnt incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

Quitó los lugares altos, rompió las columnas y derribó la Asera. También hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque en aquellos días los hijos de Israel le quemaban incienso; y la llamó Nehustán.

5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor [any] that were before him.

Confió en Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, de modo que después de él no hubo nadie como él entre todos los reyes de Judá, ni entre los que le precedieron.

6 For he cleaved to the LORD, [and] departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

Porque se unió a Yahvé. No se apartó de seguirlo, sino que guardó sus mandamientos, que Yahvé le ordenó a Moisés.

7 And the LORD was with him; [and] he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

El Señor estaba con él. Dondequiera que iba, prosperaba. Se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria y no le sirvió.

8 He smote the Philistines, [even] to Gaza, and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

Golpeó a los filisteos hasta Gaza y sus fronteras, desde la torre de los vigías hasta la ciudad fortificada.

9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which [was] the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, [that] Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

En el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el séptimo año de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, Salmanasar, rey de Asiria, subió contra Samaria y la sitió.

10 And at the end of three years they took it: [even] in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that [is] the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

Al cabo de tres años la tomaron. En el sexto año de Ezequías, que era el noveno año de Oseas, rey de Israel, Samaria fue tomada.

11 And the king of Assyria carried away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor [by] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

El rey de Asiria se llevó a Israel a Asiria, y los puso en Halah y en el Habor, el río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos,

12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, [and] all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear [them], nor do [them].

porque no obedecieron la voz de Yahvé, su Dios, sino que transgredieron su pacto, todo lo que mandó Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, y no quisieron oírlo ni hacerlo.

13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

En el año catorce del rey Ezequías, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y las tomó.

14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me I will bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

Ezequías, rey de Judá, envió al rey de Asiria a Laquis, diciendo: “Te he ofendido. Retírate de mí. Lo que me impongas, lo soportaré”. El rey de Asiria asignó a Ezequías, rey de Judá, trescientos talentos de plata y treinta talentos de oro.

15 And Hezekiah gave [him] all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.

Ezequías le dio toda la plata que se encontraba en la casa de Yahvé y en los tesoros de la casa real.

16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off [the gold from] the doors of the temple of the LORD, and [from] the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

En aquel tiempo, Ezequías cortó el oro de las puertas del templo de Yahvé y de las columnas que Ezequías, rey de Judá, había recubierto, y se lo dio al rey de Asiria.

17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army against Jerusalem: and they went up, and came to Jerusalem: and when they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which [is] in the highway of the fuller's field.

El rey de Asiria envió a Tartán, a Rabsaris y a Rabsaces desde Laquis al rey Ezequías con un gran ejército a Jerusalén. Subieron y llegaron a Jerusalén. Cuando subieron, vinieron y se pararon junto al conducto del estanque superior, que está en el camino del campo del batán.

18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who [was] over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

Cuando llamaron al rey, salieron hacia ellos Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, que estaba al frente de la casa, y Sebnah, el escriba, y Joah, hijo de Asaf, el registrador.

19 And Rab-shakeh said to them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence [is] this in which thou trustest?

Rabsaces les dijo: “Di ahora a Ezequías: “El gran rey, el rey de Asiria, dice: “¿Qué confianza es ésta en la que confías?

20 Thou sayest, but [they are but] vain words, I [have] counsel and strength for the war. Now in whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

Ustedes dicen (pero no son más que palabras vanas): ‘Hay consejo y fuerza para la guerra’. Ahora bien, ¿en quién confían ustedes, que se han rebelado contra mí?

21 Now behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, [even] upon Egypt, on which if a man leaneth, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so [is] Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.

Ahora bien, he aquí que confiáis en el bastón de esta caña magullada, incluso en Egipto. Si un hombre se apoya en ella, se le meterá en la mano y la atravesará. Así es el Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.

22 But if ye say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: [is] not that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

Pero si me decís: “Confiamos en el Señor, nuestro Dios”, ¿no es aquel cuyos lugares altos y cuyos altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: “Adoraréis ante este altar en Jerusalén”?

23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou shalt be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

Ahora, pues, por favor, dad prendas a mi amo el rey de Asiria, y yo os daré dos mil caballos si sois capaces de poner jinetes en ellos.

24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

¿Cómo, pues, puedes rechazar el rostro de un capitán del más pequeño de los siervos de mi amo, y poner tu confianza en Egipto para carros y jinetes?

25 Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

¿Acaso he subido sin Yahvé contra este lugar para destruirlo? Yahvé me dijo: “Sube contra esta tierra y destrúyela””.

26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna and Joah, to Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand [it]: and talk not with us in the Jews language in the ears of the people that [are] on the wall.

Entonces Eliaquim, hijo de Jilquías, Sebna y Joá, dijeron a Rabsaces: “Por favor, habla a tus siervos en lengua siria, porque nosotros la entendemos. No hables con nosotros en la lengua de los judíos, a oídos del pueblo que está en el muro”.

27 But Rab-shakeh said to them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men who sit on the wall, that they may feed on their vilest excretions with you?

Pero Rabsaces les dijo: “¿Acaso mi amo me ha enviado a su amo y a ustedes para decirles estas palabras? ¿No me ha enviado a los hombres que se sientan en el muro, para que coman su propio estiércol y beban su propia orina con ustedes?”

28 Then Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews language, and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

Entonces Rabsaces se puso de pie y gritó con gran voz en el idioma de los judíos, y habló diciendo: “Oigan la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

El rey dice: ‘No dejes que Ezequías te engañe, porque no podrá librarte de su mano.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

No dejen que Ezequías los haga confiar en Yahvé, diciendo: “Seguramente Yahvé nos librará, y esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.”

31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make [an agreement] with me by a present, and come out to me, and [then] eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

No escuchen a Ezequías’. Porque el rey de Asiria dice: ‘Hagan las paces conmigo y salgan a mi encuentro; y cada uno de ustedes coma de su propia vid, y cada uno de su propia higuera, y cada uno beba agua de su propia cisterna;

32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive-oil and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not to Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

hasta que yo venga y los lleve a una tierra como la suya, una tierra de grano y de vino nuevo, una tierra de pan y de viñas, una tierra de olivos y de miel, para que vivan y no mueran. No escuchen a Ezequías cuando los convenza diciendo: “El Señor nos librará”.

33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

34 Where [are] the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where [are] the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arpad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Ivva? ¿Han librado a Samaria de mi mano?

35 Who [are] they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¿Quiénes son, entre todos los dioses de los países, los que han librado a su país de mi mano, para que Yahvé libere a Jerusalén de mi mano?”

36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

Pero el pueblo se quedó callado y no le respondió ni una sola palabra, porque la orden del rey era: “No le respondan”.

37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who [was] over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with [their] clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

Entonces Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, que estaba al frente de la casa, vino con Sebna, el escriba, y con Joah, hijo de Asaf, el registrador, a Ezequías con las ropas rasgadas, y le contaron las palabras de Rabsaces.
