2 Chronicles 17
1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
Josaphat, fils d’Asa, régna à sa place. Il se fortifia contre Israël:
2 And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
il mit des troupes dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et il mit des garnisons dans le pays de Juda et dans les villes d’Ephraïm dont Asa, son père, s’était emparé.
3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not to Baalim;
Yahweh fut avec Josaphat, parce qu’il marcha dans les premières voies de David, son père, et qu’il ne rechercha pas les Baals;
4 But sought to the [LORD] God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
mais il rechercha le Dieu de son père et suivit ses commandements, sans imiter les actions d’Israël.
5 Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand: and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.
Yahweh affermit le royaume entre ses mains; tout Juda apportait des présents à Josaphat, et il eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire.
6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
Son courage grandit dans les voies de Yahweh, et il fit encore disparaître de Juda les hauts lieux et les aschéras.
7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, [even] to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
La troisième année de son règne, il envoya ses chefs, Ben-Haïl, Obdias, Zacharias, Nathanaël et Michéas, enseigner dans les villes de Juda,
8 And with them [he sent] Levites, [even] Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
et avec eux les lévites Séméïas, Nathanias, Zabadias, Asaël, Sémiramoth, Jonathan, Adonias, Thobias, Thobadonias, et, avec ces lévites, les prêtres Elisama et Joram.
9 And they taught in Judah, and [had] the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
Ils enseignèrent dans Juda, ayant avec eux le livre de la loi de Yahweh; ils parcoururent toutes les villes de Juda, et ils enseignèrent parmi le peuple.
10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that [were] around Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
La terreur de Yahweh s’empara de tous les royaumes des pays qui environnaient Juda, et ils ne firent pas la guerre à Josaphat.
11 Also [some] of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.
Des philistins apportèrent à Josaphat des présents et un tribut en argent; les Arabes aussi lui amenèrent du bétail, sept mille sept cents béliers et sept mille sept cents boucs.
12 And Jehoshaphat became exceedingly great; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
Josaphat était en voie de s’élever au plus haut degré de grandeur. Il bâtit en Juda des forteresses et des villes pour servir de magasins;
13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, [were] in Jerusalem.
et il avait beaucoup de provisions dans les villes de Juda, et des guerriers, hommes vaillants, dans Jérusalem.
14 And these [are] the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand.
Voici leur dénombrement, selon leurs familles. De Juda, chefs de milliers: Adna, le chef, et avec lui, trois cent mille vaillants hommes;
15 And next to him [was] Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.
à ses côtés, Johanan, le chef, et avec lui, deux cent quatre-vingt mille hommes;
16 And next to him [was] Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
et à ses côtés, Amasias, fils de Zéchri, qui s’était volontairement consacré à Yahweh, et avec lui, deux cent mille vaillants hommes. —
17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
De Benjamin: Eliada, homme vaillant, et avec lui, deux cent mille hommes armés de l’arc et du bouclier;
18 And next to him [was] Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for the war.
et à ses côtés, Jozabad, et avec lui, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes armés pour la guerre. —
19 These waited on the king, besides [those] whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
Tels sont ceux qui étaient au service du roi, outre ceux que le roi avait placés dans les villes fortes, dans tout le territoire de Juda.
