1 Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks be made for all men;
Intelek azért mindenek előtt, hogy tartassanak könyörgések, imádságok, esedezések, hálaadások minden emberekért,
2 For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Királyokért és minden méltóságban levőkért, hogy csendes és nyugodalmas életet éljünk, teljes istenfélelemmel és tisztességgel.
3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;
Mert ez jó és kedves dolog a mi megtartó Istenünk előtt,
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
A ki azt akarja, hogy minden ember idvezüljön és az igazság ismeretére eljusson.
5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Mert egy az Isten, egy a közbenjáró is Isten és emberek között, az ember Krisztus Jézus,
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
A ki adta önmagát váltságul mindenekért, mint tanúbizonyság a maga idejében,
7 For which I am ordained a preacher and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, [and] lie not) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
A mi végett rendeltettem én hirdetővé és apostollá (igazságot szólok a Krisztusban, nem hazudok), pogányok tanítójává hitben és igazságban.
8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Akarom azért, hogy imádkozzanak a férfiak minden helyen, tiszta kezeket emelvén föl harag és versengés nélkül.
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in decent apparel, with modesty and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array,
Hasonlatosképen az asszonyok tisztességes öltözetben, szemérmetességgel és mértékletességgel ékesítsék magokat; nem hajfonatokkal és aranynyal vagy gyöngyökkel, vagy drága öltözékkel,
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Hanem, a mint illik az istenfélelmet valló asszonyokhoz, jó cselekedetekkel.
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
Az asszony csendességben tanuljon teljes engedelmességgel.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
A tanítást pedig nem engedem meg az asszonynak, sem hogy a férfin uralkodjék, hanem legyen csendességben.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
Mert Ádám teremtetett elsőnek, azután Éva.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
És Ádám nem csalattatott meg, hanem az asszony megcsalattatván, bűnbe esett:
15 Notwithstanding, she will be saved in child-bearing, if they continue in faith, and charity, and holiness, with sobriety.
Mindazáltal megtartatik a gyermekszüléskor, ha megmaradnak a hitben és szeretetben és a szent életben mértékletességgel.
