1 Samuel 31
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
১এর মধ্যে পলেষ্টীয়রা ইস্রায়েলের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করলে ইস্রায়েল লোকেরা পলেষ্টীয়দের সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেল এবং গিলবোয় পর্বতে মারা পড়তে লাগল৷
2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.
২আর পলেষ্টীয়রা শৌলের ও তার ছেলেদের পিছনে পিছনে দৌড়াল এবং পলেষ্টীয়রা যোনাথন, অবীনাদব ও মলকি-শূয় শৌলের এই ছেলেদের হত্যা করল৷
3 And the battle was severe against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was severely wounded by the archers.
৩পরে শৌলের বিরুদ্ধে ভীষণভাবে সংগ্রাম হল, আর ধনুর্দ্ধরেরা তার নাগাল পেল; সেই ধনুর্দ্ধারীদের থেকে শৌল খুব ভয় পেলেন৷
4 Then said Saul to his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised should come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was exceedingly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
৪আর শৌল নিজের অস্ত্রবাহককে বললেন, “তোমার তলোয়ার বার কর, ওটা দিয়ে আমাকে বিদ্ধ কর; না হলে কি জানি, ঐ অচ্ছিন্নত্বকেরা এসে আমাকে বিদ্ধ করে আমার অপমান করবে৷” কিন্তু তাঁর অস্ত্রবাহক তা করতে চাইল না, কারণ সে খুব ভয় পেয়েছিল; অতএব শৌল তলোয়ার নিয়ে নিজে তার উপরে পড়লেন৷
5 And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
৫আর শৌল মারা গিয়েছেন দেখে তার অস্ত্রবাহকও নিজের তলোয়ারের ওপরে পড়ে তার সঙ্গে মারা গেল৷
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, that same day together.
৬এই ভাবে সেই দিন শৌল, তাঁর তিন ছেলে, তাঁর অস্ত্রবাহক ও তাঁর সমস্ত লোক একসঙ্গে মারা যান৷
7 And when the men of Israel that [were] on the other side of the valley, and [they] that [were] on the other side of Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
৭পরে ইস্রায়েলের যে লোকেরা উপত্যকার ওপরে ও যর্দ্দনের ওপরে ছিল, তারা যখন দেখতে পেল যে, ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা পালিয়ে গেছে এবং শৌল ও তার ছেলেরা মারা গিয়েছে, তখন তারা সবাই নগর ছেড়ে পালাল, আর পলেষ্টীয়রা এসে সেই সব নগরের মধ্যে বাস করতে লাগল৷
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
৮পরের দিন পলেষ্টীয়রা নিহত লোকদের পোশাক খুলে নিয়ে এসে গিলবোয় পর্বতে পড়ে থাকা শৌল ও তাঁর তিন ছেলেকে দেখতে পেল;
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish [it in] the house of their idols, and among the people.
৯তখন তারা তাঁর মাথা কেটে পোশাক খুলে নিল এবং নিজেদের দেবালয়ে ও লোকেদের মধ্যে সেই বার্তা জানানোর জন্য পলেষ্টীয়দের দেশে সব জায়গায় পাঠাল৷
10 And they put his armor in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
১০পরে তারা পোশাক অষ্টারোৎ (মূর্তির মন্দিরে) রাখল এবং তাঁর মৃতদেহ বৈৎ-শানের দেওয়ালে টাঙ্গিয়ে দিল৷
11 And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul,
১১পরে যখন যাবেশ গিলিয়দ নিবাসীরা শৌলের প্রতি পলেষ্টীয়দের করা সেই কাজের সংবাদ পেল,
12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
১২তখন সমস্ত শক্তিশালী লোক উঠল এবং সমস্ত রাত হেঁটে গিয়ে শৌলের ও তাঁর ছেলেদের শরীর বৈৎ-শানের দেওয়াল থেকে নামাল, আর যাবেশে এসে সেখানে তাঁদের মৃতদেহ পুড়িয়ে দিল৷
13 And they took their bones, and buried [them] under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
১৩আর তারা তাঁদের হাড় নিয়ে যাবেশে অবস্থিত ঝাউ (এষেল) গাছের তলায় পুঁতে রাখল, পরে সাত দিন উপোশ করল৷
