1 Samuel 3

1 And the child Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; [there was] no open vision.

Der junge Samuel aber besorgte den Dienst vor Jahwe unter den Augen Elis. Eine Offenbarung Jahwes war zu jener Zeit etwas Seltenes, Gesichte wurden wenig erlebt.

2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli [was] laid down in his place, and his eyes began to grow dim, [that] he could not see;

Zu jener Zeit nun, während Eli an seinem Platze schlief, - seine Augen hatten angefangen, stumpf zu werden, so daß er nicht mehr sehen konnte,

3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God [was], and Samuel was laid down [to sleep];

die Leuchte Gottes war jedoch noch nicht erloschen; Samuel aber schlief im Tempel Jahwes da, wo die Gotteslade stand, -

4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here [am] I.

da rief einst Jahwe: Samuel! Samuel! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich!

5 And he ran to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

lief zu Eli hin und sprach: Hier bin ich, du hast nach mir gerufen! Der sprach: ich habe nicht gerufen, lege dich wieder schlafen! Da ging er und legte sich schlafen.

6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

Jahwe aber rief noch einmal: Samuel! Samuel! Samuel erhob sich, ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, du hast mich ja gerufen! Der sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, mein Sohn; lege dich wieder schlafen!

7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him.

Samuel hatte nämlich Jahwe noch nicht kennen gelernt, und es war ihm noch keine Offenbarung Jahwes zu teil geworden.

8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here [am] I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Nun rief Jahwe Samuel aufs Neue, zum dritten Male. Da erhob er sich, ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, du hast mich ja gerufen! Jetzt merkte Eli, daß es Jahwe war, der den Knaben rief.

9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he should call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Daher sprach Eli zu Samuel: geh, lege dich schlafen; und wenn er dich etwa anruft, so antworte: Rede, Jahwe! Dein Knecht hört. Da ging Samuel und legte sich an seinem Platze schlafen.

10 And the LORD came, and stood and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

Da kam Jahwe, stellte sich hin und rief wie die vorigen Male: Samuel! Samuel! Samuel sprach: Rede, dein Knecht hört!

11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

Da sprach Jahwe zu Samuel: Fürwahr, ich will in Israel etwas ausführen, daß jedem, der davon hören wird, beide Ohren gellen sollen:

12 In that day I will perform against Eli all [things] which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

an jenem Tage werde ich alles das an Eli in Erfüllung gehen lassen, was ich über seine Familie geredet habe - von Anfang bis zu Ende.

13 For I have told him, that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he knoweth: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

Du sollst ihm aber kundthun, daß ich über seine Familie für immer das Urteil gesprochen habe, weil er wußte, daß seine Söhne Gott lästern, und ihnen nicht wehrte.

14 And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

So habe ich denn der Familie Elis geschworen: Wahrlich, die Schuld der Familie Elis soll weder durch Schlachtopfer noch durch Opfergaben jemals gesühnt werden!

15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD: and Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.

Samuel blieb bis zum Morgen liegen. Frühmorgens aber erhob er sich und öffnete die Thore des Jahwetempels. Doch scheute sich Samuel, Eli kundzuthun, was er geschaut hatte.

16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here [am] I.

Eli aber rief Samuel und sprach: Mein Sohn Samuel! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich!

17 And he said, What [is] the thing that [the LORD] hath said to thee? I pray thee hide [it] not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou shalt hide [any] thing from me, of all the things that he said to thee.

Da fragte er: Was war es, was er zu dir geredet hat? Verhehle es mir ja nicht; Gott thue dir dies und das, wenn du nur irgend etwas von dem verhehlst, was er zu dir geredet hat!

18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

So teilte ihm denn Samuel die ganze Sache mit und verschwieg ihm nichts. Da erwiderte jener: Es ist Jahwe; was ihm gutdünkt, möge er thun!

19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.

Samuel aber wuchs heran, und Jahwe war mit ihm und ließ nichts von dem, was er angekündigt, zur Erde fallen.

20 And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel [was] established [to be] a prophet of the LORD.

Und ganz Israel von Dan bis Beerseba erkannte, daß sich Samuel als ein zuverlässiger Prophet Jahwes erwies.

21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

Und Jahwe erschien auch weiterhin zu Silo; denn Jahwe offenbarte sich Samuel in Silo durch das Wort Jahwes.
