1 Samuel 29
1 Now the Philistines collected all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites encamped by a fountain which [is] in Jezreel.
Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphec, et Israël était campé près de la source, en Jezraël.
2 And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish.
Pendant que les princes des Philistins s’avançaient en tête des centaines et des milliers, et que David et ses gens marchaient à l’arrière-garde avec Achis,
3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What [do] these Hebrews [here]? And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, [Is] not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell [to me] to this day?
les chefs des Philistins dirent: « Qu’est-ce que ces Hébreux? » Achis répondit aux chefs des Philistins: « N’est-ce pas ce David, serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël, qui est avec moi depuis des jours et depuis des années, sans que j’aie trouvé en lui la moindre chose à reprocher, depuis qu’il a passé vers nous jusqu’à ce jour. »
4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, Make this man return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he should be an adversary to us: for with what would he reconcile himself to his master? [would it] not [be] with the heads of these men?
Mais les chefs des Philistins s’irritèrent contre Achis, et les chefs des Philistins lui dirent: « Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne dans le lieu où tu l’as établi; qu’il ne descende pas avec nous à la bataille, de peur qu’il ne soit pour nous un adversaire pendant le combat. Et comment pourrait-il rentrer en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n’est en lui offrant les têtes de ces hommes?
5 [Is] not this David, of whom they sung one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
N’est-ce pas ce David pour qui l’on chantait en dansant: Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille. »
6 Then Achish called David, and said to him, Surely, [as] the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host [is] good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee from the day of thy coming to me to this day: nevertheless the lords favor thee not.
Achis appela David et lui dit: « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! tu es un homme droit, et je vois de bon œil toute ta conduite avec moi dans le camp, car je n’ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi, depuis le jour où tu es venu vers moi jusqu’à ce jour; mais tu déplais aux yeux des princes.
7 Therefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.
Retourne donc et va-t-en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins. »
8 And David said to Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant, so long as I have been with thee to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king.
David dit à Achis: « Mais qu’ai-je fait, et qu’as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur, depuis le jour où je suis venu auprès de toi jusqu’à ce jour, pour que je n’aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi? »
9 And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou [art] good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
Achis répondit et dit à David: « Je sais que tu as été bon à mon égard comme un ange de Dieu; mais les chefs des Philistins disent: il ne montera pas avec nous à la bataille.
10 Wherefore now rise early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye shall have risen early in the morning, and have light, depart.
Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton seigneur qui sont venus avec toi; levez-vous de bon matin, et dès qu’il fera jour, partez. »
11 So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin et retourner au pays des Philistins; et les Philistins montèrent à Jezraël.
