1 Samuel 18
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
Lorsqu'il eut fini de parler à Saül, l'âme de Jonathan s'unit à l'âme de David, et Jonathan l'aima comme sa propre âme.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
Saül le prit ce jour-là et ne voulut plus le laisser rentrer dans la maison de son père.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
Alors Jonathan et David firent alliance, car il l'aimait comme son âme.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that [was] upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
Jonathan se dépouilla de la robe qu'il portait et la donna à David avec ses vêtements, y compris son épée, son arc et sa ceinture.
5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, [and] behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
David allait partout où Saül l'envoyait et se conduisait avec sagesse, et Saül l'établit à la tête des hommes de guerre. C'était bon aux yeux de tout le peuple, et aussi aux yeux des serviteurs de Saül.
6 And it came to pass as they came, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.
Au retour de David, après avoir abattu le Philistin, les femmes sortirent de toutes les villes d'Israël, chantant et dansant, pour aller au-devant du roi Saül, avec des tambourins, de la joie et des instruments de musique.
7 And the women answered [one another] as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
Les femmes chantaient entre elles en jouant, et disaient, « Saül a tué ses milliers d'hommes, et David ses dix mille. »
8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands; and [what] can he have more but the kingdom?
Saül était très en colère, et cette parole lui déplaisait. Il dit: « Ils ont crédité David de dix mille hommes, et ils ne m'ont crédité que de mille. Que peut-il avoir de plus que le royaume? »
9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
Saül surveilla David à partir de ce jour-là.
10 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and [there was] a javelin in Saul's hand.
Le lendemain, un mauvais esprit de Dieu s'abattit puissamment sur Saül, qui prophétisa au milieu de la maison. David jouait avec sa main, comme il le faisait chaque jour. Saül avait sa lance à la main;
11 And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall. And David escaped from his presence twice.
et Saül lança la lance, car il disait: « Je vais clouer David au mur! » David s'échappa deux fois de sa présence.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and had departed from Saul.
Saül eut peur de David, car Yahvé était avec lui et s'était éloigné de Saül.
13 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
C'est pourquoi Saül l'éloigna de sa présence, et l'établit chef de mille hommes; il sortit et entra devant le peuple.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD [was] with him.
David se conduisit avec sagesse dans toutes ses voies, et l'Éternel était avec lui.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
Lorsque Saül vit qu'il se conduisait avec beaucoup de sagesse, il le craignit.
16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
Mais tout Israël et tout Juda aimaient David, car il sortait et entrait devant eux.
17 And Saul said to David, Behold, my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee for a wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Saül dit à David: « Voici ma fille aînée Merab. Je te la donne pour femme. Seulement, sois vaillant pour moi, et combats les batailles de Yahvé. » Car Saül dit: « Que ma main ne soit pas sur lui, mais que la main des Philistins soit sur lui. »
18 And David said to Saul, Who [am] I? and what [is] my life, [or] my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?
David dit à Saül: « Qui suis-je, et quelle est ma vie, ou la famille de mon père en Israël, pour que je sois gendre du roi? »
19 But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
Mais au moment où Merab, la fille de Saül, aurait dû être donnée à David, elle fut donnée pour femme à Adriel, le Méholathite.
20 And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
Mical, fille de Saül, aimait David. On le dit à Saül, et la chose lui plut.
21 And Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law, in [the one of] the two.
Saül dit: Je la lui donnerai, afin qu'elle soit un piège pour lui et que la main des Philistins soit contre lui. Saül dit donc une seconde fois à David: « Tu seras aujourd'hui mon gendre. »
22 And Saul commanded his servants, [saying], Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son-in-law.
Saül donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: « Parle secrètement à David, et dis-lui: « Voici que le roi prend plaisir à te voir, et que tous ses serviteurs t'aiment. Maintenant, sois le gendre du roi. »
23 And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you [a] light [thing] to be a king's son-in-law, seeing that I [am] a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
Les serviteurs de Saül prononcèrent ces paroles aux oreilles de David. David répondit: « Cela vous paraît-il léger d'être le gendre du roi, puisque je suis un homme pauvre et peu connu? »
24 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spoke David.
Les serviteurs de Saül lui dirent: « David a parlé ainsi. »
25 And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dower, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
Saül dit: « Dis à David: « Le roi ne désire pas d'autre dot que cent prépuces de Philistins, pour se venger des ennemis du roi ». Saül pensait maintenant faire tomber David par la main des Philistins.
26 And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law: and the days had not expired.
Lorsque ses serviteurs rapportèrent ces paroles à David, celui-ci se réjouit d'être le gendre du roi. Avant l'échéance,
27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter for a wife.
David se leva et partit, lui et ses hommes, et il tua deux cents hommes des Philistins. David apporta leurs prépuces, et on les donna en nombre au roi, afin qu'il soit le gendre du roi. Et Saül lui donna pour femme sa fille Mical.
28 And Saul saw and knew that the LORD [was] with David, and [that] Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him.
Saül voyait et savait que l'Éternel était avec David, et Mical, la fille de Saül, l'aimait.
29 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.
Saül eut encore plus peur de David, et Saül fut sans cesse l'ennemi de David.
30 Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass after they went forth, [that] David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much esteemed.
Et les princes des Philistins sortirent; et chaque fois qu'ils sortirent, David se conduisit plus sagement que tous les serviteurs de Saül, de sorte que son nom fut hautement estimé.
