1 Samuel 11
1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh-gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
Nahas amonita subió y acampó contra Jabes de Galaad. Todos los hombres de Jabes dijeron a Nahas: Pacten con nosotros y les serviremos.
2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this [condition] will I make [a covenant] with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it [for] a reproach upon all Israel.
Nahas amonita les respondió: Con esta condición pactaré con ustedes: Que a cada uno de ustedes les saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.
3 And the elders of Jabesh said to him, Give us seven days respit, that we may send messengers to all the borders of Israel: and then, if [there is] no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
Entonces los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Danos siete días para que enviemos mensajeros por todo el territorio de Israel, y si no hay quien nos libre, nos rendiremos a ti.
4 Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.
Cuando los mensajeros llegaron a Gabaa de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras a oídos del pueblo, y todo el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró.
5 And behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What [aileth] the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.
Aconteció que Saúl llegaba del campo tras los bueyes, y preguntó: ¿Qué le pasa al pueblo? ¿Por qué llora? Y le hablaron las palabras de los hombres de Jabes.
6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.
Cuando él oyó estas palabras, el Espíritu de ʼElohim vino poderosamente sobre Saúl, y su ira se encendió muchísimo.
7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent [them] throughout all the borders of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
Tomó un par de bueyes, los cortó en trozos y los repartió por todo el territorio de Israel por medio de mensajeros que decían: Así se hará con los bueyes del que no salga tras Saúl y Samuel. Y el temor a Yavé cayó sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre.
8 And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
Les pasó revista en Bezec: los hijos de Israel eran 300.000, y los hombres de Judá 30.000.
9 And they said to the messengers that came, thus shall ye say to the men of Jabesh-gilead, To-morrow by [the time] the sun is hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and showed [it] to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
Y dijeron a los mensajeros que llegaron: Así dirán a los hombres de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana, al calentar el sol, serán librados. Los mensajeros fueron y lo informaron a los hombres de Jabes, y ellos se alegraron.
10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To-morrow we will come out to you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good to you.
Entonces los de Jabes les dijeron [a los amonitas]: Mañana saldremos a ustedes, y hagan con nosotros lo que les parezca bien.
11 And it was [so] on the morrow, that Saul disposed the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning-watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they who remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
En la madrugada Saúl dispuso al pueblo en tres escuadrones. Entre las tres y las seis de la mañana entraron en medio del campamento y atacaron a los amonitas hasta el calor del día, y el resto fue dispersado sin que quedaran dos de ellos juntos.
12 And the people said to Samuel, Who [is] he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.
Entonces el pueblo preguntó a Samuel: ¿Quiénes son los que preguntaban si reinará Saúl sobre nosotros? ¡Entréguennos a esos hombres para que los matemos!
13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to-day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.
Saúl dijo: Ninguno morirá hoy, porque Yavé dio liberación en Israel.
14 Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
Samuel dijo al pueblo: Vengan, vayamos a Gilgal y renovemos allí el reino.
15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal: and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace-offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
Así que todo el pueblo fue a Gilgal, y confirmaron a Saúl como rey delante de Yavé en Gilgal. Allí ofrecieron sacrificios de paz delante de Yavé. Saúl y todos los hombres de Israel tuvieron gran regocijo.
