1 Kings 18
1 And it came to pass [after] many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
Pasados muchos días, vino la palabra del SEÑOR a Elías en el tercer año, diciendo: Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y yo daré lluvia sobre la faz de la tierra.
2 And Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. And [there was] a grievous famine in Samaria.
Fue, pues, Elías a mostrarse a Acab; y había gran hambre en Samaria.
3 And Ahab called Obadiah who [was] the governor of [his] house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:
Y Acab llamó a Abdías su mayordomo, el cual Abdías era en gran manera temeroso del SEÑOR;
4 For it was [so], when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
porque cuando Jezabel talaba los profetas del SEÑOR, Abdías tomó cien profetas, los cuales escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta por cuevas, y los sustentó a pan y agua.
5 And Ahab said to Obadiah, Go into the land, to all fountains of water, and to all brooks: it may be we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
Y dijo Acab a Abdías: Ve por el país a todas las fuentes de aguas, y a todos los arroyos; si a dicha hallaremos grama con que conservemos la vida a los caballos y a las mulas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.
6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
Y partieron entre sí el país para recorrerlo; Acab fue de por sí por un camino, y Abdías fue separadamente por otro.
7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, [Art] thou that my lord Elijah?
Y yendo Abdías por el camino, se encontró con Elías; y cuando lo reconoció, se postró sobre su rostro, y dijo: ¿No eres tú mi señor Elías?
8 And he answered him, I [am]: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here].
Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve, di a tu amo: He aquí Elías.
9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab to slay me?
Pero él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado, para que tú entregues tu siervo en mano de Acab para que me mate?
10 [As] the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation nor kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, [He is] not [there]; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
Vive el SEÑOR tu Dios, que no ha habido nación ni reino donde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte; y respondiendo todos: No está aquí, él ha conjurado a reinos y naciones si te han hallado.
11 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here].
¿Y ahora tú dices: Ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías?
12 And it will come to pass, [as soon as] I have gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD will carry thee whither I know not; and [so] when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
Y acontecerá que, luego que yo haya partido de ti, el Espíritu del SEÑOR te llevará donde yo no sepa; y viniendo yo, y dando las nuevas a Acab, y no hallándote él, me matará; y tu siervo teme al SEÑOR desde su juventud.
13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid a hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
¿No ha sido dicho a mi señor lo que hice, cuando Jezabel mataba a los profetas del SEÑOR; que escondí de los profetas del SEÑOR cien varones de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los mantuve a pan y agua?
14 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here]: and he will slay me.
¿Y ahora dices tú: Ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías; para que él me mate?
15 And Elijah said, [As] the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him to-day.
Y le dijo Elías: Vive el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, delante del cual estoy, que hoy me mostraré a él.
16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
Entonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab, y le dio el aviso; y Acab vino a recibir a Elías.
17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, [Art] thou he that troubleth Israel?
Y cuando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo Acab: ¿Eres tú el que turbas a Israel?
18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.
Y él respondió: Yo no he turbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos del SEÑOR, y siguiendo a los baales.
19 Now therefore send, [and] gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table.
Envía pues ahora y júntame a todo Israel en el monte del Carmelo, y los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de los bosques, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel.
20 So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets to mount Carmel.
Entonces Acab envió a todos los hijos de Israel, y juntó los profetas en el monte del Carmelo.
21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD [is] God, follow him: but if Baal, [then] follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo cojearéis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si el SEÑOR es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.
22 Then said Elijah to the people, I [even] I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophet's [are] four hundred and fifty men.
Y Elías tornó a decir al pueblo: Sólo yo he quedado profeta del SEÑOR; mas de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta varones.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay [it] on wood, and put no fire [under]: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay [it] on wood, and put no fire [under]:
Dénsenos, pues, dos bueyes, y escójanse ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, mas no pongan fuego debajo; y yo aparejaré el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
Invocad luego vosotros en el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré en el nombre del SEÑOR; y será que el Dios que respondiere por fuego, sea el Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.
25 And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress [it] first; for ye [are] many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire [under].
Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escogeos un buey, y haced primero, pues que vosotros sois los más; e invocad en el nombre de vuestros dioses, mas no pongáis fuego debajo.
26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed [it], and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But [there was] no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado, y lo aparejaron, e invocaron en el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: ¡Baal, respóndenos! Mas no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entre tanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.
27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he [is] a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is on a journey, [or] perhaps he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritad en alta voz, que dios es; por ventura está conversando, o tiene algún empeño, o va de camino; o duerme, y despertará.
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se sajaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta cubrirse de sangre.
29 And it came to pass, when mid-day was past, and they prophesied until the [time] of the offering of the [evening] sacrifice, that [there was] neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
Y cuando pasó el mediodía, y ellos aun profetizaron hasta el tiempo del ofrecimiento del sacrificio de la tarde, y no había voz, ni quien respondiese ni escuchase;
30 And Elijah said to all the people, Come near to me. And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD [that was] broken down.
entonces Elías dijo a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se llegó a él; y él reparó el altar del SEÑOR que estaba arruinado.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido dada palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: Israel será tu nombre;
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
edificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre del SEÑOR; después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, en que cupieran dos medidas de simiente.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid [him] on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour [it] on the burnt-sacrifice, and on the wood.
Compuso luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña.
34 And he said, Do [it] the second time. And they did [it] the second time. And he said, Do [it] the third time. And they did [it] the third time.
Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto, y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Y dijo: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez.
35 And the water ran around the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
De tal manera que las aguas corrían alrededor del altar; y también había llenado de agua la zanja.
36 And it came to pass at [the time of] the offering of the [evening] sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou [art] God in Israel, and [that] I [am] thy servant, and [that] I have done all these things at thy word.
Y cuando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto de la tarde, se acercó el profeta Elías, y dijo: SEÑOR Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou [art] the LORD God, and [that] thou hast turned their heart back again.
Respóndeme, SEÑOR, respóndeme; para que conozca este pueblo que tú, oh SEÑOR, eres el Dios, y que tú convertirás de nuevo el corazón de ellos a ti.
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that [was] in the trench.
Entonces cayó fuego del SEÑOR, el cual consumió el holocausto, y la leña, y las piedras, y el polvo, y aun lamió las aguas que estaban en la zanja.
39 And when all the people saw [it], they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he [is] the God; the LORD, he [is] the God.
Y viéndolo, todo el pueblo, cayeron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron: ¡El SEÑOR es el Dios! ¡El SEÑOR es el Dios!
40 And Elijah said to them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
Y les dijo Elías: Prended a los profetas de Baal, que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los mató.
41 And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for [there is] a sound of abundance of rain.
Entonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come y bebe; porque una gran lluvia suena.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
Y Acab subió a comer y a beber. Y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo; y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas.
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look towards the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, [There is] nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él le volvió a decir: Vuelve siete veces.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say to Ahab, Prepare [thy chariot], and go down, that the rain may not hinder thee.
Y a la séptima vez dijo: He aquí una pequeña nube como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar. Y él dijo: Ve, y di a Acab: Unce tu carro y desciende, para que la lluvia no te ataje.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
Y aconteció, estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento; y hubo una gran lluvia. Y subiendo Acab, vino a Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Y la mano del SEÑOR fue sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y vino corriendo delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jezreel.
