1 Corinthians 8
1 Now as concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
En cuanto a las cosas sacrificadas a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos conocimiento. El conocimiento infla, pero el amor edifica.
2 And if any man thinketh that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
Pero si alguien piensa que sabe algo, todavía no sabe como debe saber.
3 But if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.
Pero el que ama a Dios es conocido por él.
4 Therefore as concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] no other God but one.
Por lo tanto, en cuanto a comer cosas sacrificadas a los ídolos, sabemos que no hay ningún ídolo en el mundo, y que no hay más Dios que uno.
5 For though there are that are called gods, whether in heaven or upon earth, (as there are gods many, and lords many)
Porque aunque hay cosas que se llaman “dioses”, ya sea en los cielos o en la tierra — como hay muchos “dioses” y muchos “señores” —,
6 Yet to us [there is but] one God, the Father, from whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
sin embargo, para nosotros hay un solo Dios, el Padre, del cual proceden todas las cosas, y nosotros para él; y un solo Señor, Jesucristo, por el cual son todas las cosas, y nosotros vivimos por él.
7 But [there is] not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol to this hour eat [it] as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
Sin embargo, ese conocimiento no está en todos los hombres. Pero algunos, con la conciencia de un ídolo hasta ahora, comen como de una cosa sacrificada a un ídolo, y su conciencia, siendo débil, se contamina.
8 But food commendeth us not to God: for neither if we eat, are we the better; neither if we eat not, are we the worse.
Pero la comida no nos recomendará a Dios. Pues ni si no comemos somos peores, ni si comemos somos mejores.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours should become a stumbling-block to them that are weak.
Pero tened cuidado de que esta libertad vuestra no se convierta en un tropiezo para los débiles.
10 For if any man shall see thee, who hast knowledge, sit eating in the idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
Porque si un hombre os ve a vosotros, que tenéis conocimiento, sentados en el templo de un ídolo, ¿no se envalentonará su conciencia, si es débil, para comer cosas sacrificadas a los ídolos?
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
Y por vuestro conocimiento perece el que es débil, el hermano por el que murió Cristo.
12 But when ye thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
Así, pecando contra los hermanos e hiriendo su conciencia cuando es débil, pecas contra Cristo.
