1 Corinthians 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
Ha embereknek vagy angyaloknak nyelvén szólok is, szeretet pedig nincs bennem, olyanná lettem, mint a zengő érc vagy pengő cimbalom.
2 And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
És ha prófétálni is tudok, és minden titkot és minden tudományt ismerek is; és ha teljes hitem van is, úgyannyira, hogy hegyeket mozdíthatok ki helyükről, szeretet pedig nincs bennem, semmi vagyok.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
És ha minden vagyonomat szétosztom, és ha testemet tűzhalálra adom, szeretet pedig nincs bennem, semmi hasznom abból.
4 Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
A szeretet türelmes, jóságos; a szeretet nem irigykedik, a szeretet nem kérkedik, nem fuvalkodik fel.
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Nem cselekszik bántóan, nem keresi a maga hasznát, nem gerjed haragra, nem rója fel a gonoszt.
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Nem örül a hamisságnak, de együtt örül az igazsággal.
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Mindent elfedez, mindent hisz, mindent remél, mindent eltűr.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether [there are] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there are] languages, they shall cease; whether [there is] knowledge, it shall vanish away.
A szeretet soha el nem fogy. De legyen bár prófétálás, elmúlik, vagy nyelveken szólás, megszűnik, vagy ismeret, el fog töröltetni.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
Mert töredékes bennünk az ismeret és töredékes a prófétálás.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
De amikor eljön a teljesség, a töredékes elmúlik.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Amikor gyermek voltam, úgy szóltam, mint gyermek, úgy gondolkodtam, mint gyermek, úgy értettem, mint gyermek. Miután pedig férfivá lettem, elhagytam a gyermekhez illő dolgokat.
12 For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Mert most tükör által homályosan látunk, akkor pedig színről-színre. Most töredékes bennem az ismeret, akkor pedig úgy ismerek majd, amint Isten ismer engem.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity.
Most azért megmarad a hit, remény, szeretet, e három; ezek között pedig legnagyobb a szeretet.
