1 Chronicles 20
1 And it came to pass, that after the year had expired, at the time that kings go out [to battle], Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
Au moment du retour de l'année, au moment où les rois sortent, Joab prit la tête de l'armée et ravagea le pays des enfants d'Ammon, puis il vint assiéger Rabba. Mais David resta à Jérusalem. Joab frappa Rabba et la renversa.
2 And David took the crown of their king from his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and [there were] precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought also a great quantity of spoil out of the city.
David prit la couronne de leur roi de dessus sa tête, et il trouva qu'elle pesait un talent d'or, et qu'elle contenait des pierres précieuses. Il la mit sur la tête de David, qui fit sortir de la ville un très grand pillage.
3 And he brought out the people that [were] in it, and cut [them] with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so David dealt with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Il fit sortir les gens qui s'y trouvaient, et les fit couper avec des scies, des pics de fer et des haches. David fit de même pour toutes les villes des enfants d'Ammon. Puis David et tout le peuple retournèrent à Jérusalem.
4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, [that was] of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.
Après cela, il y eut une guerre à Guézer avec les Philistins. Alors Sibbecaï, le Hushathite, tua Sippaï, d'entre les fils du géant, et ils furent soumis.
5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear-staff [was] like a weaver's beam.
Il y eut encore une guerre avec les Philistins; et Elhanan, fils de Jaïr, tua Lahmi, frère de Goliath, le Gittien, dont le bâton de la lance était comme une poutre de tisserand.
6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, whose fingers and toes [were] four and twenty, six [on each hand], and six [on each foot]: and he also was the son of the giant.
Il y eut encore une guerre à Gath, où se trouvait un homme de grande taille, qui avait vingt-quatre doigts et orteils, six à chaque main et six à chaque pied.
7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David's brother, slew him.
Lorsqu'il défia Israël, Jonathan, fils de Schimea, frère de David, le tua.
8 These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
Ceux-là étaient nés du géant à Gath, et ils tombèrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.
