Revelation 18
1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was made bright with his glory.
Après cela, je vis descendre du ciel un autre ange, qui avait une grande autorité. La terre était illuminée par sa gloire.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Il cria d'une voix forte, en disant: « Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone la grande, elle est devenue une habitation de démons, une prison pour tout esprit impur, et un repaire pour tout oiseau impur et odieux!
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
Car toutes les nations ont bu du vin de la fureur de son impudicité, les rois de la terre se sont livrés avec elle à l'impudicité, et les marchands de la terre se sont enrichis de l'abondance de son luxe. »
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
J'entendis du ciel une autre voix qui disait: Sortez du milieu d'elle, mon peuple, afin que vous ne participiez pas à ses péchés et que vous ne receviez pas de ses fléaux;
5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
car ses péchés ont atteint le ciel, et Dieu s'est souvenu de ses iniquités.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
Rendez-lui comme elle a rendu, et rendez-lui le double de ce qu'elle a fait, et selon ses œuvres. Dans la coupe qu'elle a mélangée, mélangez-lui le double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived luxuriously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
Autant elle s'est glorifiée et s'est dévergondée, autant donne-lui de tourments et de deuils. Car elle dit en son cœur: Je suis assise en reine, je ne suis pas veuve, et je ne veux pas voir de deuil.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
C'est pourquoi, en un seul jour, ses fléaux arriveront: la mort, le deuil et la famine; et elle sera consumée par le feu, car le Seigneur Dieu qui l'a jugée est puissant.
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed acts of immorality and lived luxuriously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Les rois de la terre, qui se sont livrés à l'impudicité et qui ont vécu dans la luxure avec elle, pleureront et gémiront à cause d'elle, en regardant la fumée de son embrasement.
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
Ils se tiendront à distance, dans la crainte de son tourment, et ils diront: « Malheur, malheur à la grande ville, à Babylone, la ville forte! Car ton jugement est venu en une heure.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
Les marchands de la terre pleurent et se lamentent sur elle, car personne n'achète plus leurs marchandises:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all kinds of vessels of ivory, and all kinds of vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
marchandises d'or, d'argent, de pierres précieuses, de perles, de fin lin, de pourpre, de soie, d'écarlate, de tout bois précieux, de tout vase d'ivoire, de tout vase de bois très précieux, d'airain, de fer et de marbre;
13 And cinnamon, and incense, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and bodies, and souls of men.
et de la cannelle, de l'encens, du parfum, de l'encens, du vin, de l'huile d'olive, de la fine farine, du blé, des brebis, des chevaux, des chars, des corps et des âmes de personnes.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after have departed from thee, and all things which were luxurious and splendid have departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
Les fruits que ton âme convoitait ont été perdus pour toi. Toutes les choses qui étaient délicates et somptueuses ont disparu de toi, et tu ne les trouveras plus du tout.
15 The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
Les marchands de ces choses, qui se sont enrichis par elle, se tiendront au loin, dans la crainte de son tourment, pleurant et se lamentant,
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
en disant: « Malheur, malheur à la grande ville, elle qui était vêtue de fin lin, de pourpre et d'écarlate, et parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
Car, en une heure, de si grandes richesses sont réduites à néant. Tous les capitaines de navires, tous ceux qui naviguent en quelque lieu que ce soit, les marins, et tous ceux qui gagnent leur vie sur la mer, se tenaient à distance,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like this great city!
et s'écriaient, en regardant la fumée de son embrasement: « Qu'est-ce qui est semblable à la grande ville?
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, in which were made rich all that had ships in the sea by her wealth! for in one hour is she made desolate.
Ils jetaient de la poussière sur leurs têtes, et ils criaient en pleurant et en se lamentant: « Malheur, malheur à la grande ville, dans laquelle tous ceux qui avaient leurs navires sur la mer s'enrichissaient à cause de ses grandes richesses! Car en une heure, elle est réduite à la désolation.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
« Réjouissez-vous sur elle, ô ciel, vous les saints, les apôtres et les prophètes, car Dieu a porté sur elle votre jugement. »
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be no more found.
Un ange puissant prit une pierre semblable à une grande meule et la jeta dans la mer, en disant: « Ainsi sera précipitée avec violence Babylone, la grande ville, et on ne la trouvera plus du tout.
22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be no more heard in thee; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be no more heard in thee;
On n'entendra plus chez toi la voix des harpistes, des ménestrels, des joueurs de flûte et des trompettes. On ne trouvera plus chez toi aucun artisan, quel que soit son métier. On n'entendra plus du tout chez toi le bruit d'un moulin.
23 And the light of a lamp shall shine no more in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
La lumière d'une lampe ne brillera plus du tout chez toi. On n'entendra plus chez toi la voix de l'époux et de l'épouse, parce que tes marchands étaient les princes de la terre, parce que toutes les nations ont été séduites par ta magie.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
En elle a été trouvé le sang des prophètes et des saints, et de tous ceux qui ont été égorgés sur la terre. »
