< Psalms 21 >
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
For the chief musician. A psalm of David. The king rejoices in your strength, Yahweh! How greatly he rejoices in the salvation you provide!
2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withheld the request of his lips. (Selah)
You have given him his heart's desire and have not held back the request of his lips. (Selah)
3 For thou meetest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.
For you bring him rich blessings; you placed on his head a crown of purest gold.
4 He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it to him, even length of days for ever and ever.
He asked you for life; you gave it to him; you gave him long days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.
His glory is great because of your victory; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.
6 For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.
For you grant him lasting blessings; you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
For the king trusts in Yahweh; through the covenant faithfulness of the Most High he will not be moved.
8 Thy hand shall find out all thy enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.
Your hand will seize all your enemies; your right hand will seize those who hate you.
9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thy anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.
At the time of your anger, you will burn them up as in a fiery furnace. Yahweh will consume them in his wrath, and the fire will devour them.
10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.
You will destroy their offspring from the earth and their descendants from among the human race.
11 For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.
For they intended evil against you; they conceived a plot with which they will not succeed!
12 Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thy arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.
For you will turn them back; you will draw your bow before them.
13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thy own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.
Be exalted, Yahweh, in your strength; we will sing and praise your power.
