Psalms 107
1 O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Célébrez l'Éternel; car il est bon, Et sa miséricorde dure éternellement!
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
Ainsi parleront les rachetés de l'Éternel, Ceux qu'il a rachetés de la main de l'oppresseur,
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
Et qu'il a rassemblés de tous les pays, De l'Orient et de l'Occident, du Nord et du Midi.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
Ils erraient dans le désert, sur un chemin solitaire; Ils ne trouvaient aucune ville qui pût leur servir de refuge.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
Ils étaient affamés et altérés; Leur âme défaillait en eux.
6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
Alors ils ont crié vers l'Éternel, dans leur détresse, Et il les a délivrés de leurs angoisses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
Il les a conduits par le droit chemin, Jusque dans une ville qu'ils ont habitée.
8 O that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Qu'ils célèbrent donc la bonté de l'Éternel, Et ses miracles en faveur des enfants des hommes!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
Car il a rassasié l'âme altérée. Et comblé de biens l'âme affamée.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
D'autres habitaient dans les ténèbres Et dans l'ombre de la mort; Ils étaient captifs et gémissaient dans les chaînes,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the most High:
Pour avoir été rebelles aux paroles de Dieu, Et avoir méprisé le conseil du Très-Haut.
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
Il avait humilié leur coeur par la souffrance: Ils succombaient, sans que personne ne les secourût.
13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
Alors ils ont crié vers l'Éternel, dans leur détresse, Et il les a délivrés de leurs angoisses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder.
Il les a tirés des ténèbres et de l'ombre de la mort; Il a brisé leurs chaînes.
15 O that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Qu'ils célèbrent donc la bonté de l'Éternel, Et ses miracles en faveur des enfants des hommes!
16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron asunder.
Car il a brisé les portes d'airain, Et rompu les barreaux de fer.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
Insensés qu'ils étaient! Ils portaient la peine De leurs transgressions et de leurs iniquités;
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of food; and they draw near to the gates of death.
Ils avaient en horreur toute nourriture; Ils touchaient aux portes de la mort.
19 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, he saveth them out of their distresses.
Alors ils ont crié vers l'Éternel, dans leur détresse, Et il les a délivrés de leurs angoisses.
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Il a envoyé sa parole; il les a guéris, Et il les a retirés de leurs tombeaux.
21 O that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Qu'ils célèbrent donc la bonté de l'Éternel, Et ses miracles en faveur des enfants des hommes!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
Qu'ils offrent des sacrifices d'actions de grâces Et racontent ses oeuvres avec des chants de triomphe!
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business on great waters;
Ceux qui descendent sur la mer, dans des navires. Et qui trafiquent sur les grandes eaux,
24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
Ceux-là voient les oeuvres de l'Éternel, Et ses merveilles dans les profondeurs de l'abîme.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up its waves.
Il parle, et il fait lever un vent de tempête, Qui soulève les vagues de la mer.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
Ils montent aux cieux; ils descendent aux abîmes; Leur âme se fond d'angoisse.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
Ils ensemencent des champs, et ils plantent des vignes, Qui portent des fruits abondants.
28 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
Alors ils ont crié vers l'Éternel, dans leur détresse, Et il les a délivrés de leurs angoisses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.
Il fait succéder le calme à la tempête, Et les vagues s'apaisent.
30 Then are they glad because they are quiet; so he bringeth them to their desired haven.
Ils se réjouissent de ce qu'elles sont calmées. Et Dieu les conduit au port qu'ils désiraient.
31 O that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Qu'ils célèbrent donc la bonté de l'Éternel, Et ses miracles en faveur des enfants des hommes!
32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
Qu'ils l'exaltent dans l'assemblée du peuple! Qu'ils le louent dans le conseil des anciens!
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
L'Éternel change les fleuves en désert, Les sources d'eau en un sol aride,
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell in it.
Et la terre fertile en lande salée, A cause de la méchanceté de ses habitants.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
Il change aussi le désert en étang, Et la terre aride en sources d'eau.
36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
Il y fait habiter ceux qui étaient affamés: Ils fondent une ville pour y demeurer.
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
Ils ensemencent des champs, et ils plantent des vignes, Qui portent des fruits abondants.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and doest not let their cattle to decrease.
Dieu les bénit: ils deviennent très nombreux, Et il ne laisse pas diminuer leur bétail.
39 Again, they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
D'autres sont amoindris et humiliés Par l'oppression, le malheur et la souffrance.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
L'Éternel répand le mépris sur les grands. Et les fait errer dans un désert sans route.
41 Yet he setteth the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
Mais il délivre de leur affliction les malheureux, Et rend leurs familles nombreuses Comme de grands troupeaux.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
A cette vue, les justes sont remplis de joie; Mais tous les injustes ont la bouche fermée.
43 Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
Que celui qui est sage prenne garde à ces choses. Et qu'il sache comprendre les bontés de l'Éternel!
