< Proverbs 4 >

1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Puonj mara mamiyou beyo, omiyo kik ujwangʼ puonjna.
3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
Kane pod an wuowi e od wuora, kane pod an rawera kendo nyathi achiel kende mar minwa,
4 He taught me also, and said to me, Let thy heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
nopuonja kowacho niya, “Mak matek wechena gi chunyi duto, rit chikena eka inibed mangima.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Yud rieko kod ngʼeyo matut, wiyi kik wil kod wechena kata weyogi.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
Kik ijwangʼ rieko to obiro bedoni ragengʼ; here, to obiro ritoi.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Rieko nigi duongʼ moloyo, omiyo yud rieko. Kata obedo ni mwanduni duto nyalo rumo, to bed gi winjo tiend wach.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
Miye duongʼ, to enotingʼi malo; rwake chutho, to obiro miyi duongʼ.
9 She shall give to thy head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
Enoket ogut ngʼwono e wiyi kendo nosidhni osimbo mar duongʼ.”
10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
Apuonji e yor rieko kendo anyisi yo makare.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Ka iwuotho, to ok inikier bende ka iringo, to ok inichwanyri.
13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
Mak motegno gima isepuonjori, kik iweye, olalni to irite maber, nikech en e ngimani.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Kik iwuothi e yor joma timbegi mono kata kik iluw yor jomaricho.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Bed mabor gi yorno, kik iwuothie, to wichri kendo iluw yori iwuon.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
Nikech ok ginyal nindo nyaka gitim gima mono; ayula wangʼ bende ok nyal terogi kapok gimiyo ngʼato opodho.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Timbe mamono e chiembgi ma gichamo, to timbe ja-mahundu e divai ma gimadho.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more to the perfect day.
Yor joma kare chalo ka ugwe mar kogwen, omedo rieny maler nyaka chiengʼ wuogi.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
To yor joricho chalo gi mudho mandiwa; ok gingʼeyo gima miyo gichwanyore.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thy ear to my sayings.
Wuoda, chik iti malongʼo ne gima awacho, chik iti maber ne wechena.
21 Let them not depart from thy eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.
Kik iwe gilal e wangʼi to kan-gi e chunyi;
22 For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
nikech gikelo ngima ni jogo moyudogo kendo gin gi ngima maber ne ringre dhano duto.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
To moloyo duto, rit chunyi, nikech en e soko mar ngima.
24 Put away from thee a perverse mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Wach ma ok adiera kik aa e dhogi; weche mag miganga kik wuogi e dhogi.
25 Let thy eyes look right on, and let thy eyelids look straight before thee.
Rang mana nyimi tir, ka ichomo wangʼi moriere tir e nyimi.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Rie yore tir monego iluw kendo luw mana yore motegno.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Kik ibar kidhiyo korachwich kata koracham; rit tiendi mondo kik idonji e richo.
