1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
Hvo Nakken gør stiv, skønt revset tit, han knuses brat uden Lægedom.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Er der mange retfærdige, glædes Folket, men raader de gudløse, sukker Folket.
3 He that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
Hvo Visdom elsker, glæder sin Fader, hvo Skøger omgaas, bortødsler Gods.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.
Kongen grundfæster Landet med Ret, en Udsuger lægger det øde.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
Mand, der smigrer sin Næste, breder et Net for hans Fod.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
I sin Brøde hildes den onde, den retfærdige jubler af Glæde.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
Den retfærdige kender de ringes Retssag; den gudløse skønner intet.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
Spottere ophidser Byen, men Vismænd, de stiller Vrede.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rageth or laugheth, there is no rest.
Gaar Vismand i Rette med Daare, vredes og ler han, alt preller af.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
De blodtørstige hader lydefri Mand, de retsindige tager sig af ham.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
En Taabe slipper al sin Voldsomhed løs, Vismand stiller den omsider.
12 If a ruler hearkeneth to lies, all his servants are wicked.
En Fyrste, som lytter til Løgnetale, faar lutter gudløse Tjenere.
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD giveth light to both their eyes.
Fattigmand og Blodsuger mødes, HERREN giver begges Øjne Glans.
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
En Konge, der dømmer de ringe med Ret, hans Trone staar fast evindelig.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Ris og Revselse, det giver Visdom, uvorn Dreng gør sin Moder Skam.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
Bliver mange gudløse, tiltager Synd; retfærdige ser med Fryd deres Fald.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight to thy soul.
Tugt din Søn, saa kvæger han dig og bringer din Sjæl, hvad der smager.
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Uden Syner forvildes et Folk; salig den, der vogter paa Loven.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understandeth he will not answer.
Med Ord lader Træl sig ikke tugte, han fatter dem vel, men adlyder ikke.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Ser du en Mand, der er hastig til Tale, for en Taabe er der snarere Haab end for ham.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him at length become his son.
Forvænner man sin Træl fra ung, vil han til sidst være Herre.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Hidsig Mand vækker Strid, vredladen Mand gør megen Synd.
23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Et Menneskes Hovmod ydmyger ham, den ydmyge opnaar Ære.
24 Whoever is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and revealeth it not.
Hæleren hader sit Liv, han hører Forbandelsen, men melder intet.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he who putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Frygt for Mennesker leder i Snare, men den, der stoler paa HERREN, er bjærget.
26 Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD.
Mange søger en Fyrstes Gunst; Mands Ret er dog fra HERREN.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
Urettens Mand er retfærdiges Gru, hvo redeligt vandrer, gudløses Gru.
