Proverbs 16
1 The preparations of the heart belong to man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
Lòng người nghĩ lắm mưu hay, nhưng thành hay bại đều do tay Chúa Hằng Hữu.
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
Người tự thấy công việc mình toàn hảo, nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu biết rõ động cơ.
3 Commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Hãy phó thác công việc con cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, chương trình con sẽ được thành công.
4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Chúa Hằng Hữu tạo mỗi loài đều có mục đích, người ác, Ngài dành cho ngày đoán phạt.
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Người kiêu căng bị Chúa Hằng Hữu kinh tởm; dù chạy đi đâu cũng chẳng thoát lưới trời.
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Nhân ái chân thật phủ che tội lỗi. Nhờ kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu mà bỏ lối ác gian.
7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Khi ai sống đẹp lòng Chúa Hằng Hữu, dù kẻ thù cũng sẽ hòa thuận với người.
8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
Thà nghèo mà công bằng liêm chính, còn hơn bất công, thất đức để làm giàu.
9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
Con người dùng trí vạch đường đi, nhưng Chúa dìu dắt từng li từng tí.
10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
Vua đưa ra những lời phán quyết; vua không bao giờ xử đoán bất công.
11 A just weight and balance are the LORD’S: all the weights of the bag are his work.
Chúa Hằng Hữu sắp đặt các loại cân công bình chính xác; mọi quả cân trong bao là công việc của tay Ngài.
12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
Vua làm ác bị người phỉ nhổ, đức công minh củng cố ngai vàng.
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
Lời người công chính là niềm vui của các vua; vua biệt đãi những người nói năng ngay thẳng.
14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
Vua giận dữ là có người mất mạng; nhưng người khôn làm cơn giận tiêu tan.
15 In the light of a king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
Vua tươi tắn, mặt chiếu ra sự sống; người ban ơn như mưa móc mùa xuân.
16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Tìm được khôn ngoan còn quý hơn vàng, thu thập tri thức còn hơn gom góp bạc!
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
Con đường công chính đi xa hố gian tà; ai giữ đường ngay thẳng là bảo toàn sinh mạng.
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Kiêu ngạo dẫn đường cho diệt vong, tự tôn đi trước sự vấp ngã.
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Thà khiêm nhượng ở với người nghèo, còn hơn chia của với người kiêu căng.
20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
Ai giữ chính đạo sẽ thành công; ơn phước thuộc người trông cậy Chúa.
21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
Người khôn ngoan thận trọng hiểu sâu biết rộng, ăn nói ngọt ngào càng thuyết phục nhiều người.
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
Túi khôn là nguồn sống của người thông sáng, còn điên rồ là hình phạt của người dại khờ.
23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
Người khôn thận trọng trong lời nói; điều gì đưa ra cũng chứa đựng sự hiểu biết.
24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Lời nói ân hậu giống như mật ong— ngọt ngào cổ họng, bổ dưỡng tâm thân.
25 There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it is the way of death.
Con đường bạn chọn có vẻ phải, nhưng cuối nẻo đường là hố diệt vong.
26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
Bụng cồn cào thúc đẩy nhân công làm việc; miệng đói meo thúc đẩy họ kiếm miếng ăn.
27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
Người vô đạo cưu mang tội ác; nói những lời như châm lửa đốt nhà.
28 A perverse man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
Người tà vạy gieo mầm xung đột; người rỉ tai chia rẽ bạn thân.
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
Người hung dữ quyến dụ láng giềng, lôi kéo họ vào đường bất chính.
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise perverse things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
Người chớp mắt lòng mưu toan việc ác; người mím môi bụng chất chứa gian tà.
31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.
Tóc bạc là vương miện vinh quang, của con người theo đường công chính.
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Người chậm giận thắng hơn dũng sĩ; ai biết tự chủ thắng hơn người chiếm thành.
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but its whole disposing is from the LORD.
Loài người rút thăm cầu may, nhưng quyết định đến từ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
