Nehemiah 6
1 Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it; ( though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates; )
Cuando Sanballat, Tobías, Gésem el árabe y los demás enemigos nuestros supieron que yo había edificado las murallas, y que ya no quedaba brecha en ella, bien que hasta entonces no había puesto las hojas en las puertas,
2 That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
Sanballat y Gésem enviaron a decirme: “Ven a una entrevista en las aldeas del valle de Onó”; pero ellos pensaban hacerme mal.
3 And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, while I leave it, and come down to you?
Les envié mensajeros que les dijeran: “Estoy haciendo una grandísima obra y no puedo bajar. ¿Ha de suspenderse acaso la obra, mientras yo, dejándola, me entreviste con vosotros?”
4 Yet they sent to me four times in this way; and I answered them after the same manner.
Me enviaron este mismo mensaje cuatro veces, y yo les contesté de la misma manera.
5 Then Sanballat sent his servant to me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
Sanballat me mandó decir lo mismo por quinta vez, por un criado suyo que (traía) en su mano una carta abierta.
6 In which was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.
En ella estaba escrito: “Se dice entre las gentes, y Gasmú lo confirma, que tú y los judíos pensáis en sublevaros; por cuyo motivo estás construyendo las murallas. Según estos mismos rumores tú pretendes también hacerte rey de ellos.
7 And thou hast also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.
A más de esto, has constituido profetas que respecto de ti proclaman en Jerusalén diciendo: ¡Hay rey en Judá! Ahora bien, el rey va a ser informado de estas cosas; ven, pues, y pongámonos de acuerdo.”
8 Then I sent to him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou maketh up them out of thy own heart.
Pero yo envié a decirle: “No se hace nada de lo que tú dices, sino que son invenciones de tu corazón.”
9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it may not be done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
Pues todos ellos querían amedrentarnos, diciéndose: “Se debilitarán sus manos y dejarán la obra, la cual no se cumplirá.” ¡Ahora, fortalece Tú mis manos!
10 Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.
Después fui a la casa de Semaías, hijo de Dalías, hijo de Mehetabel, que se había encerrado; y él me dijo: “Vamos juntos a la Casa de Dios, al interior del Templo, y cerraremos las puertas del Templo; porque vendrán a matarte. Sí, de noche vendrán a matarte.”
11 And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
Respondí yo: “¿Un hombre como yo ha de huir? ¿Un hombre como yo ha de entrar en el Templo para salvar su vida? ¡No entraré!”
12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Y fijándome en él conocí que no era Dios quien le enviaba, sino que él mismo había hecho esta profecía contra mí; porque Tobías y Sanballat le habían sobornado.
13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for a bad report, that they might reproach me.
Lo habían comprado para que yo tuviese miedo y obrando así cometiera un pecado; esto les habría servido para infamar mi nombre y cubrirme de oprobio.
14 My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.
¡Acuérdate, oh Dios mío, de Tobías y de Sanballat, según estas obras suyas; y también de Noadiá, la profetisa, y de los demás profetas que procuraban atemorizarme!
15 So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
Se acabaron las murallas el veinte y cinco del mes de Elul, en cincuenta y dos días.
16 And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard of it, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought by our God.
Cuando todos nuestros enemigos lo supieron, se atemorizaron todas las gentes que vivían alrededor de nosotros, y cayeron de ánimo, pues conocieron que por nuestro Dios había sido hecha esta obra.
17 Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came to them.
También en ese tiempo iban muchas cartas, de los nobles de Judá a Tobías, y venían a ellos cartas de parte de Tobías,
18 For there were many in Judah sworn to him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.
porque muchos de Judá le estaban obligados por juramento, puesto que era yerno de Secanías, hijo de Arah, y su hijo Jonatán había tomado por mujer a la hija de Mesullam, hijo de Baraquías.
19 Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
Hablaban también en mi presencia de sus buenas cualidades y le comunicaron mis palabras. También Tobías envió cartas para intimidarme.
