Matthew 6
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
Kavahtakaat, ettette anna almujanne ihmisten edessä, että te heiltä nähtäisiin: niin ette saa palkkaa Isältänne, joka on taivaissa.
2 Therefore when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily I say to you, They have their reward.
Kuin siis almua annat, niin älä edelläs torvella soita, niinkuin ulkokullatut synagogissa ja kujilla tekevät, että he ihmisiltä kunnioitettaisiin. Totisesti sanon minä teille: he ovat saaneet palkkansa.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mutta kuin sinä almua annat, niin älköön vasen kätes tietäkö, mitä oikia kätes tekee,
4 That thy alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Että almus olis salaisuudessa, ja Isäs, joka salaisuudessa näkee, maksais sinulle julkisesti.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily I say to you, They have their reward.
Ja kuin rukoilet, niin ei sinun pidä oleman niinkuin ulkokullatut; sillä he mielellänsä seisovat ja rukoilevat synagogissa ja kujain kulmissa, että he ihmisiltä nähtäisiin. Totisesti sanon minä teille: he ovat saaneet palkkansa.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Vaan kuin sinä rukoilet, niin mene kammioos, ja sulje oves, ja rukoile Isääs, joka on salaisuudessa: ja Isäs, joka salaisuudessa näkee, maksaa sinulle julkisesti.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Ja kuin te rukoilette, niin älkää olko paljon puhuvaiset, niinkuin pakanat; sillä he luulevat heitä paljon puheensa tähden kuultavan.
8 Therefore, be ye not like them: for your Father knoweth what things ye need, before ye ask him.
Sentähden älkäät olko heidän kaltaisensa; sillä Isänne tietää kyllä, mitä tarvitsette, ennen kuin te häneltä rukoilettekaan.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Näin teidän siis pitää rukoileman: Isä meidän, joka olet taivaissa! Pyhitetty olkoon sinun nimes.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Lähestyköön sinun valtakuntas. Olkoon sinun tahtos niin maassa kuin taivaassa.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Anna meille tänäpäivänä meidän jokapäiväinen leipämme.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Ja anna meille meidän velkamme anteeksi, niinkuin mekin anteeksi annamme meidän velvollistemme.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Ja älä johdata meitä kiusaukseen. Mutta päästä meitä pahasta. Sillä sinun on valtakunta, ja voima, ja kunnia, ijankaikkisesti. Amen!
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Sillä jos te anteeksi annatte ihmisille heidän rikoksensa, niin myös teidän taivaallinen Isänne antaa teille anteeksi.
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Vaan jollette anteeksi anna ihmisille heidän rikoksiansa, niin ei myös teidän Isänne anteeksi anna teidän rikoksianne.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily I say to you, They have their reward.
Mutta kuin te paastootte, niin älkäät olko surulliset niinkuin ulkokullatut; sillä he muuttavat muotonsa, että he ihmisiltä nähtäisiin paastoovan. Totisesti sanon minä teille: he ovat saaneet palkkansa.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
Vaan sinä kuin paastoot, niin voitele pääs ja pese kasvos,
18 That thou mayest not appear to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Ettet ihmisiltä nähtäis paastoovan, mutta Isältäs, joka on salaisuudessa: ja Isäs, joka salaisuudessa näkee, maksaa sinulle julkisesti.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Älkäät tavaraa kootko maan päällä, kussa koi ja ruoste raiskaavat, ja kussa varkaat kaivavat ja varastavat;
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Vaan kootkaat teillenne tavaraa taivaassa, kussa ei koi eikä ruoste raiskaa, ja kussa ei varkaat kaiva eikä varasta.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Sillä kussa teidän tavaranne on, siellä on myös teidän sydämenne.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thy eye is clear, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Silmä on ruumin valkeus; jos siis silmäs on yksinkertainen, niin koko ruumiis on valaistu.
23 But if thy eye is bad, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mutta jos silmäs on paha, niin koko ruumiis on pimiä. Jos siis se valkeus, joka sinussa on, on pimeys, kuinka suuri on itse pimeys?
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.
Ei kenkään voi palvella kahta herraa; sillä taikka hän tätä vihaa ja toista rakastaa, taikka hän tähän suostuu ja toisen ylönkatsoo. Ette voi palvella Jumalaa ja mammonaa.
25 Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?
Sentähden sanon minä teille: älkäät murehtiko henkenne tähden, mitä te syötte ja mitä te juotte, eikä ruumiinne tähden, millä te teitänne verhootte. Eikö henki enempi ole kuin ruoka? ja ruumis parempi kuin vaate?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Katsokaat taivaan lintuja, ei he kylvä eikä niitä, ei myös kokoa riiheen, ja teidän taivaallinen Isänne ruokkii heidät. Ettekö te paljoa enempi ole kuin he?
27 Which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature?
Mutta kuka teistä voi surullansa lisätä yhden kyynärän pituudellensa?
28 And why are ye anxious for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Ja mitä te surette vaatteista? Katsokaat kukkasia kedolla, kuinka he kasvavat: ei he työtä tee, eikä kehrää.
29 And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Kuitenkin sanon minä teille, ettei Salomon kaikessa kunniassansa ollut niin vaatetettu kuin yksi heistä.
30 Therefore, if God so clotheth the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Jos Jumala näin vaatettaa pellon ruohon, joka tänäpänä seisoo ja huomenna pätsiin heitetään, eikö hän paljoa enemmin teidän sitä tee, te vähäuskoiset?
31 Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed?
Älkäät siis surulliset olko, sanoen: mitä me syömme, taikka mitä me juomme? eli millä me meitämme verhoomme?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Sillä kaikkia näitä pakanat etsivät; sillä teidän taivaallinen Isänne kyllä tietää teidän kaikkia näitä tarvitsevan.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Vaan etsikäät ensin Jumalan valtakuntaa ja hänen vanhurskauttansa, ja niin kaikki nämät teille annetaan.
34 Therefore be not anxious for to morrow: for to morrow will be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is its own evil.
Älkäät sentähden sureko huomisesta päivästä; sillä huomisella päivällä on suru itsestänsä. Tyytykään kukin päivä surullensa.
