Matthew 17
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up upon an high mountain by themselves,
Baada ya siku sita, Yesu aliwachukua Petro, Yakobo na Yohane nduguye, akaenda nao peke yao juu ya mlima mrefu.
2 And he was transfigured before them: and his face shone as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Huko, wakiwa wanamtazama, akageuka sura, uso wake ukang'aa kama jua na mavazi yake yakawa meupe kama nuru.
3 And, behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
Mose na Eliya wakawatokea, wakawa wanazungumza naye.
4 Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Hapo Petro akamwambia Yesu, “Bwana, ni vizuri sana kwamba tupo hapa! Ukipenda nitajenga vibanda vitatu: kimoja chako, kimoja cha Mose na kimoja cha Eliya.”
5 While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Alipokuwa bado anasema hivyo, wingu jeupe likawafunika, na sauti ikasikika kutoka katika hilo wingu: “Huyu ni Mwanangu mpendwa, ninayependezwa naye, msikilizeni.”
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were greatly afraid.
Wanafunzi waliposikia hivyo wakaanguka kifudifudi, wakaogopa sana.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
Yesu akawaendea, akawagusa, akasema, “Simameni, msiogope!”
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, except Jesus only.
Walipoinua macho yao hawakumwona mtu, ila Yesu peke yake.
9 And as they came down the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man is risen from the dead.
Basi, walipokuwa wanashuka mlimani, Yesu akawaonya: “Msimwambie mtu mambo mliyoyaona mpaka Mwana wa Mtu atakapofufuliwa kutoka wafu.”
10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?
Kisha wanafunzi wakamwuliza, “Mbona walimu wa Sheria wanasema ati ni lazima kwanza Eliya aje?”
11 And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things.
Yesu akawajibu, “Kweli, Eliya atakuja kutayarisha mambo yote.
12 But I say to you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they desired. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer by them.
Lakini nawaambieni, Eliya amekwisha kuja nao hawakumtambua, bali walimtendea jinsi walivyotaka. Mwana wa Mtu atateswa vivyo hivyo mikononi mwao.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them concerning John the Baptist.
Hapo hao wanafunzi wakafahamu kwamba alikuwa akiwaambia juu ya Yohane mbatizaji.
14 And when they had come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
Walipojiunga tena na ule umati wa watu, mtu mmoja alimwendea Yesu, akampigia magoti,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and greatly distressed: for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water.
akasema, “Mheshimiwa, mwonee huruma mwanangu kwa kuwa ana kifafa, tena anateseka sana; mara nyingi yeye huanguka motoni na majini.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Nilimleta kwa wanafunzi wako lakini hawakuweza kumponya.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him here to me.
Yesu akajibu, “Enyi kizazi kisicho na imani, kilichopotoka! Nitakaa nanyi mpaka lini? Nitawavumilia ninyi mpaka lini? Mleteni hapa huyo mtoto.”
18 And Jesus rebuked the demon; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Basi, Yesu akamkemea huyo pepo, naye akamtoka, na yule mtoto akapona wakati huohuo.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus privately, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Kisha wanafunzi wakamwendea Yesu kwa faragha, wakamwuliza, “Kwa nini sisi hatukuweza kumtoa yule pepo?”
20 And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Yesu akawajibu, “Kwa sababu ya imani yenu haba. Nawaambieni kweli, kama tu mkiwa na imani, hata iwe ndogo kama mbegu ya haradali, mtaweza kuuambia mlima huu: Toka hapa uende pale, nao utakwenda. Hakuna chochote ambacho hakingewezekana kwenu.”
21 However this kind goeth not out except by prayer and fasting.
“Pepo wa namna hii hawezi kuondolewa ila kwa sala na kufunga.”
22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
Walipokuwa pamoja huko Galilaya, Yesu aliwaambia, “Mwana wa Mtu atakabidhiwa kwa watu.
23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceedingly sorrowful.
Watamuua, lakini siku ya tatu atafufuliwa.” Wanafunzi wakahuzunika mno.
24 And when they had come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
Walipofika Kafarnaumu watu wenye kukusanya fedha ya zaka ya Hekalu walimwendea Petro, wakamwuliza, “Je, mwalimu wenu hulipa fedha ya zaka?”
25 He saith, Yes. And when he had come into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? from their own children, or from strangers?
Petro akajibu, “Naam, hulipa.” Basi, Petro alipoingia ndani ya nyumba, kabla hata hajasema neno, Yesu akamwuliza, “Simoni, wewe unaonaje? Wafalme wa dunia hukusanya ushuru au kodi kutoka kwa kina nani? Kutoka kwa wananchi ama kutoka kwa wageni?”
26 Peter saith to him, From strangers. Jesus saith to him, Then are the children free.
Petro akajibu, “Kutoka kwa wageni.” Yesu akamwambia, “Haya basi, wananchi hawahusiki.
27 However, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: take that, and give to them for me and thee.
Lakini kusudi tusiwakwaze, nenda ziwani ukatupe ndoana; chukua samaki wa kwanza atakayenaswa, fungua kinywa chake, na ndani utakuta fedha taslimu ya zaka. Ichukue ukawape kwa ajili yangu na kwa ajili yako.”
