Mark 8
1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples, and saith to them,
En ces jours-là, comme il y avait une très grande foule et qu'ils n'avaient rien à manger, Jésus appela ses disciples et leur dit:
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
« J'ai pitié de la foule, parce qu'elle est restée trois jours avec moi et qu'elle n'a rien à manger.
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for some of them came from far.
Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils s'évanouiront en chemin, car certains d'entre eux ont fait un long voyage. »
4 And his disciples answered him, From where can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
Ses disciples lui répondirent: « D'où pourrait-on rassasier ces gens de pain, ici, dans un lieu désert? »
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
Il leur demanda: « Combien de pains avez-vous? » Ils ont dit: « Sept. »
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and broke, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they set them before the people.
Il ordonna à la foule de s'asseoir par terre, et il prit les sept pains. Après avoir rendu grâces, il les rompit et les donna à ses disciples pour qu'ils les servent, et ils servirent la foule.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
Ils avaient aussi quelques petits poissons. Après les avoir bénis, il leur dit de les servir aussi.
8 So they ate, and were satisfied: and they took up of the fragments of food that were left, seven baskets.
Ils mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Ils emportèrent sept paniers des morceaux qui restaient.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
Ceux qui avaient mangé étaient environ quatre mille. Puis il les renvoya.
10 And immediately he entered into a boat with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
Aussitôt, il monta dans la barque avec ses disciples et arriva dans la région de Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
Les pharisiens sortirent et se mirent à l'interroger, cherchant à obtenir de lui un signe du ciel et l'éprouvant.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek for a sign? verily I say to you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.
Il soupira profondément en son esprit et dit: « Pourquoi cette génération cherche-t-elle un signe? En vérité, je vous le dis, aucun signe ne sera donné à cette génération. »
13 And he left them, and entering into the boat again departed to the other side.
Il les quitta, et, montant de nouveau dans la barque, il partit pour l'autre rive.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the boat with them more than one loaf.
Ils avaient oublié de prendre du pain, et ils n'avaient pas plus d'un pain avec eux dans la barque.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
Il les avertit en disant: « Prenez garde: gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens et du levain d'Hérode. »
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
Ils raisonnaient entre eux, disant: « C'est parce que nous n'avons pas de pain. »
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith to them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
Jésus, s'en apercevant, leur dit: « Pourquoi pensez-vous que c'est parce que vous n'avez pas de pain? Ne voyez-vous pas encore, ne comprenez-vous pas? Votre cœur est-il encore endurci?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Ayant des yeux, ne voyez-vous pas? Vous avez des oreilles, n'entendez-vous pas? Ne vous souvenez-vous pas?
19 When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say to him, Twelve.
Quand j'ai rompu les cinq pains pour les cinq mille, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés? » Ils lui ont dit: « Douze. »
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
« Lorsque les sept pains ont nourri les quatre mille personnes, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés? » Ils lui ont dit: « Sept. »
21 And he said to them, How is it that ye do not understand?
Il leur demanda: « Vous ne comprenez pas encore? »
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man to him, and besought him to touch him.
Il arriva à Bethsaïda. On lui amena un aveugle, et on le pria de le toucher.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw any thing.
Il saisit l'aveugle par la main, et le fit sortir du village. Après lui avoir craché sur les yeux et lui avoir imposé les mains, il lui demanda s'il voyait quelque chose.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
Il leva les yeux et dit: « Je vois des hommes, mais je les vois comme des arbres qui marchent. »
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Puis, de nouveau, il posa ses mains sur ses yeux. Il regarda attentivement, et, rétabli, il vit clairement tout le monde.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
Il le renvoya dans sa maison, en disant: « N'entre pas dans le village et ne le dis à personne dans le village. »
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am?
Jésus se rendit, avec ses disciples, dans les villages de Césarée de Philippe. En chemin, il demanda à ses disciples: « Qui dit-on que je suis? »
28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.
Ils lui dirent: « Jean le Baptiseur, d'autres disent Élie, mais d'autres encore, un des prophètes. »
29 And he saith to them, But who say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith to him, Thou art the Christ.
Il leur dit: « Mais qui dites-vous que je suis? » Pierre a répondu: « Tu es le Christ. »
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
Il leur ordonna de ne parler de lui à personne.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Il se mit à leur enseigner que le Fils de l'homme devait souffrir beaucoup, être rejeté par les anciens, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, être tué, et ressusciter après trois jours.
32 And he spoke that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
Il leur parlait ouvertement. Pierre le prit et se mit à le réprimander.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.
Mais lui, se retournant et voyant ses disciples, réprimanda Pierre, et dit: « Écarte-toi de moi, Satan! Car tu as en vue non les choses de Dieu, mais les choses des hommes. »
34 And when he had called the people to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Il appela la foule avec ses disciples et leur dit: « Que celui qui veut venir après moi renonce à lui-même, se charge de sa croix et me suive.
35 For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
En effet, quiconque veut sauver sa vie la perdra; et quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi et de la Bonne Nouvelle la sauvera.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
En effet, que sert à un homme de gagner le monde entier et de perdre sa vie?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Car que donnera l'homme en échange de sa vie?
38 Whoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles dans cette génération adultère et pécheresse, le Fils de l'homme aussi aura honte de lui quand il viendra dans la gloire de son Père avec les saints anges. »
