Job 15
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Entonces Elifaz temanita tomó la palabra y dijo:
2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
“¿Es acaso de sabios responder con argumentos vanos, y llenarse el pecho de viento,
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches which he can do no good?
arguyendo con palabras inútiles, y con razones sin valor?
4 Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
De veras, tú destruyes la piedad y socavas el temor de Dios.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Porque tu boca revela tu iniquidad, adoptas el lenguaje de los arteros.
6 Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thy own lips testify against thee.
Tu propia boca, y no yo, te condena, tus mismos labios testifican contra ti.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
¿Naciste tú el primero de los hombres, saliendo a la luz antes que los montes?
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou limit wisdom to thyself?
¿Escuchaste tú los secretos de Dios, secuestraste para ti la sabiduría?
9 What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
¿Qué sabes tú, que no sepamos nosotros? ¿En qué nos supera tu sabiduría?
10 With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
También entre nosotros hay cabezas canas y hombres de edad, más avanzados en días que tu padre.
11 Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
¿Acaso tienes en poco las consolaciones de Dios, y las suaves palabras que se te dicen.
12 Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
¿Adónde te lleva tu corazón, y qué significa el pestañeo de tus ojos?
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
¿Por qué diriges contra Dios tu ira, y profiere tu boca tales palabras?
14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
¿Qué es el hombre para aparecer inocente; el nacido de mujer, para ser justo?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
Pues Él no se fía ni de sus santos; los mismos cielos no están limpios a su vista;
16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinketh iniquity like water?
¿cuánto menos este ser, abominable y perverso, el hombre, que bebe como agua la iniquidad?
17 I will show thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
Te voy a enseñar; escúchame; te voy a contar lo que he visto,
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
lo que los sabios enseñan sin ocultar nada, — (como lo recibieron) de sus padres—
19 To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
pues a ellos solos fue dado el país, y no pasó extraño alguno entre ellos.
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
Todos sus días el impío es atormentado; y el tirano ignora el número de sus años.
21 A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Voz de angustia suena en sus oídos; en plena paz le asalta el devastador.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.
Él mismo pierde la esperanza de escapar a las tinieblas; se siente amenazado de la espada;
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
vaga buscando alimento, (diciendo): ¿En dónde está? sabe que es inminente el día de las tinieblas;
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
le aterran angustia y tribulación, le acometen como un rey listo para la guerra.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Pues extendió su mano contra Dios, se exaltó contra el Todopoderoso.
26 He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon his thick strong shield:
Corre contra Él, erguido el cuello, ocultándose detrás de sus escudos,
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh his flanks heavy with fat.
cubierto el rostro con su gordura, con capas de grosura sus lomos.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
Vive en ciudades asoladas, en casas inhabitadas, destinadas a convertirse en ruinas.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.
Por eso no será rico, sus bienes no durarán, y su hacienda no se extenderá sobre la tierra.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
Nunca escapará a las tinieblas; la llama abrasará sus renuevos, y él será llevado por el soplo de la boca de (Dios).
31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
No confíe en una engañosa vanidad; la misma vanidad será su recompensa.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
Ella le llegará antes que se acaben sus días, y sus ramas no reverdecerán ya más.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Sacudirá como la vid sus uvas, aun estando en cierne, y como el olivo dejará caer su flor.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
La casa del impío es estéril, y el fuego consume la morada del que se deja sobornar.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their heart prepareth deceit.
Concibe penas y engendra maldades, nutriendo en su seno el engaño.”
