Job 14
1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
»Der Mensch, vom Weibe geboren, ist arm an Lebenszeit, aber überreich an Unruhe:
2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
wie eine Blume sprießt er auf und verwelkt, er flieht wie ein Schatten dahin und hat keinen Bestand.
3 And dost thou open thy eyes upon such one, and bring me into judgment with thee?
Dennoch hältst du über einem solchen (Wesen) deine Augen offen und ziehst ihn vor deinen Richterstuhl!
4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
Wie könnte wohl ein Reiner von Unreinen herkommen? nein, nicht ein einziger.
5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
Wenn denn seine Tage genau bemessen sind, wenn die Zahl seiner Monde bei dir feststeht und du ihm eine Grenze gesetzt hast, die er nicht überschreiten darf,
6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
so wende doch deine Blicke von ihm weg, damit er Ruhe habe, bis er wie ein Tagelöhner mit Befriedigung auf seinen Tag hinblicken kann!«
7 For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender branch will not cease.
»Denn für einen Baum bleibt eine Hoffnung bestehen: wird er abgehauen, so schlägt er von neuem aus, und seine Schößlinge hören nicht auf.
8 Though its root shall become old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground;
Wenn auch seine Wurzel in der Erde altert und sein Stumpf im Boden abstirbt,
9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
so treibt er doch vom Duft des Wassers neue Sprossen und bringt Zweige hervor wie ein junges Reis.
10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
Wenn aber ein Mann stirbt, so liegt er hingestreckt da, und wenn ein Mensch verscheidet, wo ist er dann?
11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
Wie das Wasser aus einem Teich verdunstet und ein Strom versiegt und austrocknet,
12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens shall be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
so legt der Mensch sich nieder und steht nicht wieder auf: bis der Himmel nicht mehr ist, erwachen sie nicht wieder und werden aus ihrem Schlaf nicht aufgerüttelt.«
13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest conceal me, until thy wrath is past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)
»O wenn du mich doch im Totenreiche verwahrtest, mich dort verbergen wolltest, bis dein Zorn sich gelegt hätte, mir eine Frist bestimmtest und dann meiner gedächtest! (Sheol h7585)
14 If a man dieth, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change shall come.
Doch wenn der Mensch gestorben ist – kann er wohl wieder aufleben? Dann wollte ich alle Tage meines Frondienstes harren, bis die Ablösung für mich käme:
15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thy hands.
dann würdest du rufen und ich gäbe dir Antwort; nach dem Werk deiner Hände würdest du Verlangen tragen;
16 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
ja, dann würdest du meine Schritte sorglich zählen, über einen Fehltritt von mir kein strenger Wächter sein;
17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up my iniquity.
nein, versiegelt würde meine Übertretung in einem Bündel liegen, und meine Schuld hättest du verklebt.
18 And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of its place.
Doch nein – Berge stürzen in sich zusammen, und Felsen werden von ihrer Stelle weggerückt,
19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
Steine höhlt das Wasser aus, und seine Güsse schwemmen das Erdreich weg: so machst du auch die Hoffnung des Menschen zunichte.
20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
Du überwältigst ihn auf ewig, und er muß davon; sein Antlitz entstellend, läßt du ihn dahinfahren.
21 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
Gelangen seine Kinder zu Ehren – er weiß nichts davon; und sinken sie in Schande hinab – er achtet nicht auf sie.
22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
Nur seines eigenen Leibes Schmerzen fühlt er, und nur um sich selbst empfindet seine Seele Trauer.«
