Jeremiah 48
1 Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe to Nebo! for it is laid waste: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
モアブの事について、万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう言われる、「ああ、ネボはわざわいだ、これは滅ぼされた。キリヤタイムははずかしめられて取られ、とりでは、はずかしめられてこわされた。
2 There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
モアブの誉は、消え去った。ヘシボンで人々はモアブの害を図り、『さあ、この国を断ち滅ぼそう』という。マデメンよ、おまえもまた滅ぼされる、つるぎがおまえを追う。
3 A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, violence and great destruction.
ホロナイムから叫び声が聞える、『荒廃と大いなる滅亡だ』という。
4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
モアブは滅ぼされ、叫びはゾアルにまで聞える。
5 For in the ascent of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
彼らは泣きながらルヒテの坂を登る。彼らはホロナイムの下り坂で、『滅亡』の叫びを聞いたからだ。
6 Flee, save your lives, and be like the naked tree in the wilderness.
逃げて、自分の身を救え、荒野の野ろばのようになれ。
7 For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
おまえが、とりでと財宝とを頼みにしたので、おまえも捕えられるからだ。またケモシは、その祭司とつかさたちと共に、捕えられて行く。
8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.
滅ぼす者はすべての町に来る、一つの町ものがれることができない。谷は滅び、平地は荒される、主の言われたとおりである。
9 Give wings to Moab, that it may flee and get away: for its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them.
モアブに翼を与えて、飛び去らせよ。その町々は荒れて、住む者はなくなる。
10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
主のわざを行うことを怠る者はのろわれる。またそのつるぎを押えて血を流さない者はのろわれる。
11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
モアブはその幼い時から安らかで、酒が、沈んだおりの上にとどまって、器から器に、くみ移されなかったように、捕え移されなかったので、その味はなお存し、その香気も変ることがない。
12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send to him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
主は言われる、それゆえ見よ、わたしがこれを傾ける者どもをつかわす日が来る。彼らはこれを傾け、その器をあけ、そのかめを砕く。
13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
その時モアブはケモシのために恥をかく。ちょうどイスラエルの家がその頼みとしたベテルのために恥をかいたようになる。
14 How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war?
あなたがたはどうして『われわれは勇士だ。強い戦士だ』というのか。
15 Moab is laid waste, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
モアブとその町々を滅ぼす者は上って来、モアブのえり抜きの若者たちは下って殺されたと万軍の主と名のる王が言われる。
16 The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.
モアブの災難は近づいている、その苦難はすみやかに来る。
17 All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
すべてその周囲にある者よ、またその名を知る者よ、彼のために嘆いて、『ああ、強き笏、麗しきつえは、ついに折れた』と言え。
18 Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.
デボンに住む者よ、あなたの栄えを離れて下り、かわいた地に座せよ。モアブを滅ぼす者があなたに攻めのぼって来て、あなたの城を滅ぼしたからだ。
19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
アロエルに住む者よ、道のかたわらに立って見張りし、逃げてくる男、のがれてくる女に尋ねて、『何が起ったのか』と言え。
20 Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: wail and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is laid waste,
モアブは敗れて、恥をこうむっている。嘆き呼ばわれ。アルノン川のほとりで、モアブは滅ぼされたと告げよ。
21 And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,
さばきは高原の地に臨み、ホロン、ヤハズ、メパアテ、
22 And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Bethdiblathaim,
デボン、ネボ、ベテ・デブラタイム、
23 And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmeon,
キリヤタイム、ベテ・ガムル、ベテ・メオン、
24 And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.
ケリオテ、ボズラなどモアブの地のすべての町の、遠いものにも近いものにも、臨んだ。
25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.
モアブの角は砕け、その腕は折れたと主は言われる。
26 Make ye him drunk: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
モアブを酔わせよ、彼が主に敵して自ら高ぶったからである。モアブは自分の吐いた物の中にころがって、笑い草となる。
27 For was not Israel a derision to thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou hast spoken of him, thou didst leap for joy.
イスラエルはあなたの笑い草ではなかったか。あなたが、彼のことを語るごとに首を振ったのは、彼が盗賊の中にいたとでもいうのか。
28 O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.
モアブに住む者よ、町を去って岩の間に住め。谷の入口のかたわらに巣を作る山ばとのようにせよ。
29 We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud ) his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.
われわれはモアブの高慢な事を聞いた、その高慢は、はなはだしい。すなわち、その尊大、高慢、横柄、およびその心の高ぶりのことを聞いた。
30 I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.
主は言われる、わたしは彼の横着なのを知る、彼の自慢は偽りで、その行いも偽りである。
31 Therefore will I wail for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; my heart shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.
それゆえ、わたしはモアブのために嘆き、モアブの全地のために呼ばわる。キルヘレスの人々のためにわたしは悲しむ。
32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants have gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler hath fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.
シブマのぶどうの木よ、わたしはヤゼルのために泣くのにまさっておまえのために泣く。おまえのつるは延びて海を越え、ヤゼルに及んだ。おまえの夏の実と、その収穫を滅ぼす者が襲ってきた。
33 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.
喜びと楽しみは、実り多いモアブの地を去った。わたしは、ぶどうをしぼる所にも酒をなくした。楽しく呼ばわって、ぶどうを踏む者もなくなった。呼ばわっても、喜んで呼ばわる声ではない。
34 From the cry of Heshbon even to Elealeh, and even to Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.
ヘシボンとエレアレは叫ぶ。ヤハヅに至るまで、ゾアルからホロナイムとエグラテ・シリシヤに至るまで、彼らはその声をあげる。ニムリムの水も絶えたからである。
35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
主は言われる、わたしは犠牲を高き所にささげ、香をその神にたく者をモアブのうちに滅ぼす。
36 Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and my heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches that he hath gotten have perished.
それゆえ、わたしの心はモアブのために笛のように嘆き、わたしの心はキルヘレスの人々のために笛のように嘆く。彼らの獲た富が消えうせたからである。
37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
人はみな髪をそり、皆ひげをそり、みな手に傷をつけ、腰に荒布を着ける。
38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets: for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
モアブではどこの屋根の上も、広場も、ただ悲しみに包まれている。これは、わたしが、だれもほしがらない器のようにモアブを砕いたからであると主は言われる。
39 They shall wail, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
ああ、モアブはついに滅びた。人々は嘆く。ああ、モアブは恥じて顔をそむけた。モアブはその周囲のすべての者の笑い草となり恐れとなった」。
40 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.
主はこう言われる、「見よ、敵はわしのように速く飛んできて、モアブに向かって翼をのべる。
41 Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
町々は取られ、城は奪われる。その日モアブの勇士の心は子を産む女の心のようになる。
42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.
モアブは滅ぼされて、国を成さないようになる。主に敵して自ら誇ったからである。
43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
主は言われる、モアブに住む者よ、恐れと、穴と、わなとがあなたに臨んでいる。
44 He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their punishment, saith the LORD.
恐れをさけて逃げる者は穴におちいり、穴をよじ上って出る者は、わなに捕えられる。わたしがモアブに、その罰せられる年に、これらのものを臨ませるからであると主は言われる。
45 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
逃げた者はヘシボンの陰に、力なく立ちどまる。ヘシボンから火が出、シホンの家から炎が出て、モアブの額、騒ぐ人々の頭の頂を焼いたからだ。
46 Woe be to thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.
モアブよ、おまえはわざわいだ。ケモシの民は滅びた。おまえのむすこらは捕え移され、おまえの娘らも捕え行かれたからである。
47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
しかし末の日にわたしは再びモアブを栄えさせると主は言われる」。ここまではモアブのさばきの事をいったのである。
