Jeremiah 4

1 If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return to me: and if thou wilt put away thy abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not be removed.

Si te volvieres a mí, o! Israel, dijo Jehová, tendrás reposo; y si quitares de delante de mí tus abominaciones, no andarás de acá para allá.

2 And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

Y jurarás: Vive Jehová, con verdad, con juicio, y con justicia; y bendecirse han en él las naciones, y en él se gloriarán.

3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

Porque así dijo Jehová a todo varón de Judá y de Jerusalem: Barbechád barbecho para vosotros, y no sembréis sobre espinas.

4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Circuncidáos a Jehová, y quitád los prepucios de vuestro corazón, varones de Judá, y moradores de Jerusalem; porque mi ira no salga como fuego, y se encienda, y no haya quien apague, por la malicia de vuestras obras.

5 Declare ye in Judah, and proclaim in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, confirm, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.

Denunciád en Judá, y hacéd oír en Jerusalem, y decíd: Sonád trompeta en la tierra, pregonád: juntád, y decíd: Juntáos, y entrémosnos en las cuidades fuertes:

6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

Alzád bandera en Sión: juntáos, no os detengáis; porque yo hago venir mal de la parte del aquilón, y quebrantamiento grande.

7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

El león sube de su enramada, y el destruidor de naciones es partido: salió de su asiento para poner tu tierra en soledad: tus ciudades serán asoladas sin morador.

8 For this gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament and wail: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

Por esto vestíos de sacos, endechád, y aullád; porque la ira de Jehová no se ha apartado de nosotros.

9 And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

Y será que en aquel día, dice Jehová, el corazón del rey desfallecerá, y el corazón de los príncipes; y los sacerdotes estarán atónitos, y los profetas se maravillarán.

10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; though the sword reacheth to the soul.

(Y dije: ¡Ay, ay, Jehová Dios! verdaderamente engañando has engañado a este pueblo, y a Jerusalem, diciendo: Paz tendréis; y la espada ha venido hasta el alma, )

11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

En aquel tiempo se dirá de este pueblo, y de Jerusalem: Viento seco de las alturas del desierto vino a la hija de mi pueblo, no para aventar, ni para limpiar.

12 Even a full wind from those places shall come to me: now also will I give sentence against them.

Viento más vehemente que estos me vendrá a mí; porque ahora yo hablaré juicios con ellos.

13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! for we are laid waste.

He aquí que subirá como nube, y su carro, como torbellino: más ligeros son sus caballos que las águilas. ¡Ay de nosotros! porque dados somos a saco.

14 O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

Lava de la malicia tu corazón, o! Jerusalem, para que seas salva: ¿Hasta cuándo dejarás estar en medio de ti los pensamientos de tu iniquidad?

15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and proclaimeth affliction from mount Ephraim.

Porque la voz del que trae las nuevas desde Dan, y del que hace oír la calamidad desde el monte de Efraím.

16 Make ye mention to the nations; behold, proclaim against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

Decíd de las naciones, he aquí, hacéd oír de Jerusalem: Guardas vienen de tierra lejana, y darán su voz sobre las ciudades de Judá.

17 As keepers of a field, they are against her on all sides; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

Como las guardas de las heredades, estuvieron sobre ella en derredor; porque se rebeló contra mí, dijo Jehová.

18 Thy way and thy doings have procured these things to thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth to thy heart.

Tu camino y tus obras te hicieron esto, esta tu maldad: por lo cual amargura penetrará hasta tu corazón.

19 My heart, my heart! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

Mis entrañas, mis entrañas, me duelen las telas de mi corazón: mi corazón ruge dentro de mí: no callaré, porque voz de trompeta has oído, o! alma mía, pregón de guerra.

20 Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste: suddenly are my tents ruined, and my curtains in a moment.

Quebrantamiento sobre quebrantamiento es llamado, porque toda la tierra es destruida: en un punto son destruidas mis tiendas, en un momento mis cortinas.

21 How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

¿Hasta cuándo tengo de ver bandera, tengo de oír voz de trompeta?

22 For my people are foolish, they have not known me; they are silly children, and they have no understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

Porque mi pueblo insensato, a mí no conocieron los hijos ignorantes, y los no entendidos: sabios para mal hacer, y para bien hacer no supieron.

23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

Vi la tierra, y he aquí que estaba asolada y vacía; y los cielos, y no había en ellos luz.

24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.

Miré los montes, y he aquí que temblaban, y todos los collados fueron destruidos.

25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the fowls of the heavens had fled.

Miré, y no parecía hombre, y todas las aves del cielo se habían ido.

26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

Miré, y he aquí el Carmelo desierto, y todas sus ciudades eran asoladas a la presencia de Jehová, a la presencia de la ira de su furor.

27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

Porque Jehová dijo así: Toda la tierra se asolará; empero no haré consumación.

28 For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

Por esto la tierra será asolada, y los cielos arriba se oscurecerán; porque hablé, pensé, y no me arrepentí, ni me tornaré de ello.

29 The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell in it.

Del estruendo de la gente de a caballo y de los flecheros huyó toda ciudad: entráronse en las espesuras de los bosques, y subiéronse en peñascos: toda ciudad fue desamparada, y no quedó en ellas morador alguno.

30 And when thou art laid waste, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou enlarge thy eyes with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

¿Y tú, destruida, qué harás? Que te vistes de grana, que te adornas con atavíos de oro, que alcoholas con alcohol tus ojos, por demás te engalanas: los amadores te menospreciaron, tu alma buscarán.

31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

Porque voz oí como de mujer que está de parto, angustia como de la que pare primogénito: voz de la hija de Sión que lamenta, extiende sus manos: ¡Ay ahora de mi! que mi alma desmaya a causa de los matadores.
