Hebrews 6
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on to perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
vayaṁ mr̥tijanakakarmmabhyō manaḥparāvarttanam īśvarē viśvāsō majjanaśikṣaṇaṁ hastārpaṇaṁ mr̥talōkānām utthānam
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. (aiōnios g166)
anantakālasthāyivicārājñā caitaiḥ punarbhittimūlaṁ na sthāpayantaḥ khrīṣṭaviṣayakaṁ prathamōpadēśaṁ paścātkr̥tya siddhiṁ yāvad agrasarā bhavāma| (aiōnios g166)
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
īśvarasyānumatyā ca tad asmābhiḥ kāriṣyatē|
4 For it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
ya ēkakr̥tvō dīptimayā bhūtvā svargīyavararasam āsvaditavantaḥ pavitrasyātmanō'ṁśinō jātā
īśvarasya suvākyaṁ bhāvikālasya śaktiñcāsvaditavantaśca tē bhraṣṭvā yadi (aiōn g165)
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
svamanōbhirīśvarasya putraṁ punaḥ kruśē ghnanti lajjāspadaṁ kurvvatē ca tarhi manaḥparāvarttanāya punastān navīnīkarttuṁ kō'pi na śaknōti|
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh often upon it, and bringeth forth herbs useful for them by whom it is tilled, receiveth blessing from God:
yatō yā bhūmiḥ svōpari bhūyaḥ patitaṁ vr̥ṣṭiṁ pivatī tatphalādhikāriṇāṁ nimittam iṣṭāni śākādīnyutpādayati sā īśvarād āśiṣaṁ prāptā|
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is close to being cursed; whose end is to be burned.
kintu yā bhūmi rgōkṣurakaṇṭakavr̥kṣān utpādayati sā na grāhyā śāpārhā ca śēṣē tasyā dāhō bhaviṣyati|
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
hē priyatamāḥ, yadyapi vayam ētādr̥śaṁ vākyaṁ bhāṣāmahē tathāpi yūyaṁ tata utkr̥ṣṭāḥ paritrāṇapathasya pathikāścādhva iti viśvasāmaḥ|
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shown toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
yatō yuṣmābhiḥ pavitralōkānāṁ ya upakārō 'kāri kriyatē ca tēnēśvarasya nāmnē prakāśitaṁ prēma śramañca vismarttum īśvarō'nyāyakārī na bhavati|
11 And we desire each one of you to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:
aparaṁ yuṣmākam ēkaikō janō yat pratyāśāpūraṇārthaṁ śēṣaṁ yāvat tamēva yatnaṁ prakāśayēdityaham icchāmi|
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
ataḥ śithilā na bhavata kintu yē viśvāsēna sahiṣṇutayā ca pratijñānāṁ phalādhikāriṇō jātāstēṣām anugāminō bhavata|
13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he swore by himself,
īśvarō yadā ibrāhīmē pratyajānāt tadā śrēṣṭhasya kasyāpyaparasya nāmnā śapathaṁ karttuṁ nāśaknōt, atō hētōḥ svanāmnā śapathaṁ kr̥tvā tēnōktaṁ yathā,
14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
"satyam ahaṁ tvām āśiṣaṁ gadiṣyāmi tavānvayaṁ varddhayiṣyāmi ca|"
15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
anēna prakārēṇa sa sahiṣṇutāṁ vidhāya tasyāḥ pratyāśāyāḥ phalaṁ labdhavān|
16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of every dispute.
atha mānavāḥ śrēṣṭhasya kasyacit nāmnā śapantē, śapathaśca pramāṇārthaṁ tēṣāṁ sarvvavivādāntakō bhavati|
17 In the same way God, willing more abundantly to show to the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
ityasmin īśvaraḥ pratijñāyāḥ phalādhikāriṇaḥ svīyamantraṇāyā amōghatāṁ bāhulyatō darśayitumicchan śapathēna svapratijñāṁ sthirīkr̥tavān|
18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
ataēva yasmin anr̥takathanam īśvarasya na sādhyaṁ tādr̥śēnācalēna viṣayadvayēna sammukhastharakṣāsthalasya prāptayē palāyitānām asmākaṁ sudr̥ḍhā sāntvanā jāyatē|
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and one which entereth into that within the veil;
sā pratyāśāsmākaṁ manōnaukāyā acalō laṅgarō bhūtvā vicchēdakavastrasyābhyantaraṁ praviṣṭā|
