Exodus 6

1 Then the LORD said to Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them from his land.

L’Éternel dit à Moïse: "C’Est à présent que tu seras témoin de ce que je veux faire à Pharaon. Forcé par une main puissante, il les laissera partir; d’une main puissante, lui-même les renverra de son pays."

2 And God spoke to Moses, and said to him, I am the LORD:

Dieu adressa la parole à Moïse, en disant: "Je suis l’Éternel.

3 And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

J’Ai apparu à Abraham, à Isaac, à Jacob, comme Divinité souveraine; ce n’est pas en ma qualité d’Étre immuable que je me suis manifesté à eux.

4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers.

De plus, j’avais établi mon alliance avec eux en leur faisant don du pays de Canaan, cette terre de leurs pérégrinations où ils vécurent étrangers

5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.

et enfin, j’ai entendu les gémissements des enfants d’Israël, asservis par les Égyptiens et je me suis souvenu de mon alliance.

6 Therefore say to the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with outstretched arm, and with great judgments:

Donc, parle ainsi aux enfants d’Israël: ‘Je suis l’Éternel! Je veux vous soustraire aux tribulations de l’Égypte et vous délivrer de sa servitude; et je vous affranchirai avec un bras étendu, à l’aide de châtiments terribles.

7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, who bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Je vous adopterai pour peuple, je deviendrai votre Dieu; et vous reconnaîtrez que moi, l’Éternel, je suis votre Dieu, moi qui vous aurai soustraits aux tribulations de l’Égypte.

8 And I will bring you into the land, concerning which I swore to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for an heritage: I am the LORD.

Puis, je vous introduirai dans la contrée que j’ai solennellement promise à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob; je vous la donnerai comme possession héréditaire, moi l’Éternel.’"

9 And Moses spoke so to the children of Israel: but they hearkened not to Moses by reason of anguish of spirit, and cruel bondage.

Moïse redit ces paroles aux enfants d’Israël mais ils ne l’écoutèrent point, ayant l’esprit oppressé par une dure servitude.

10 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:

11 Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel depart from his land.

"Va, dis à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, qu’il laisse partir de son pays les enfants d’Israël."

12 And Moses spoke before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened to me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?

Mais Moïse s’exprima ainsi devant l’Éternel: "Quoi! les enfants d’Israël ne m’ont pas écouté et Pharaon m’écouterait, moi qui ai la parole embarrassée!"

13 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a charge to the children of Israel, and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

Alors l’Éternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron; il leur donna des ordres pour les enfants d’Israël et pour Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, afin de faire sortir les enfants d’Israël du pays d’Égypte.

14 These are the heads of their father’s houses: The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these are the families of Reuben.

Voici les souches de leur famille paternelle. Fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël: Hanoc, Pallou, Heçrôn et Karmi. Telles sont les familles de Ruben.

15 And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman: these are the families of Simeon.

Fils de Siméon: Yemouel, Yamîn, Ohad, Yakhin, Çôhar et Chaoul, fils de la Cananéenne. Telles sont les familles de Siméon.

16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred and thirty and seven years.

Et voici les noms des fils de Lévi, selon leur ordre de naissance: Gerson, Kehath, Merari. La durée de la vie de Lévi fut de cent trente-sept ans.

17 The sons of Gershon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.

Fils de Gerson: Libni et Chimi, avec leurs familles.

18 And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred and thirty and three years.

Fils de Kehath: Amram, Yiçhar, Hébrôn et Ouzziel. Les années de la vie de Kehath: cent trente-trois ans.

19 And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the families of Levi according to their generations.

Fils de Merari: Mahli et Mouchi. Ce sont là les familles lévitiques selon leur filiation.

20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father’s sister for a wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years.

Amram choisit Jocabed, sa tante, pour épouse; elle lui enfanta Aaron et Moïse. Les années de la vie d’Amram: cent trente-sept ans.

21 And the sons of Izhar; Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.

Fils de Yiçhar: Coré, Néfeg et Zikri.

22 And the sons of Uzziel; Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri.

Fils d’Ouzziel: Michaël, Elçafân et Sithri.

23 And Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, for a wife; and she bore him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Aaron choisit pour épouse Élichéba, fille d’Amminadab, sœur de Nahchôn; elle lui enfanta Nadab et Abihou, Éléazar et Ithamar.

24 And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites.

Fils de Coré: Assir, Elkana et Abiasaf. Telles sont les familles des Coréites.

25 And Eleazar Aaron’s son took one of the daughters of Putiel for a wife; and she bore to him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

Quant à Éléazar, fils d’Aaron, il choisit pour femme une des filles de Poutïel et elle lui enfanta Phinéas. Telles sont les souches paternelles des Lévites, selon leurs familles.

26 These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.

C’Est ce même Aaron, ce même Moïse, à qui Dieu dit: "Faites sortir les enfants d’Israël du pays d’Égypte, selon leurs légions."

27 These are they who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.

Ce sont eux qui parlèrent à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, à l’effet de conduire hors d’Égypte les enfants d’Israël; savoir, Moïse et Aaron.

28 And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

Or, le jour où l’Éternel avait parlé à Moïse, dans le pays d’Égypte.

29 That the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to thee.

L’Éternel avait parlé ainsi à Moïse: "Je suis l’Éternel! Transmets à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, tout ce que je te dirai."

30 And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken to me?

Et Moïse avait dit devant l’Éternel: "Certes, j’ai la parole embarrassée, comment donc Pharaon m’écouterait-il?"
