Esther 6
1 In that night the king could not sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
সেরাতে রাজা ঘুমাতে পারছিলেন না; সেইজন্য তিনি আদেশ দিলেন যেন তাঁর কাছে, তাঁর সময়ের ঘটনাপঞ্জী এনে পড়া হয়।
2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had informed on Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
সেখানে দেখা গেল যে বিগথন ও তেরশ নামে রাজার দুজন দ্বাররক্ষী রাজা অহশ্বেরশকে মেরে ফেলার ষড়যন্ত্র করেছিল তখন মর্দখয় সেই খবর রাজাকে দিয়েছিলেন।
3 And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been bestowed upon Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered to him, There is nothing done for him.
রাজা জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “এর জন্য মর্দখয়কে কি রকম সম্মান ও মর্যাদা দেওয়া হয়েছে।” রাজার পরিচর্যাকারী বলল, “কিছুই করা হয়নি।”
4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
রাজা বললেন, “দরবারে কে আছে?” মর্দখয়ের জন্য হামন যে ফাঁসিকাঠ তৈরি করেছিল তাতে মর্দখয়কে ফাঁসি দেবার কথা রাজাকে বলবার জন্য ঠিক সেই সময়েই সে রাজবাড়ির বাইরের দরবারে এসেছিল।
5 And the king’s servants said to him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
রাজার পরিচর্যাকারীরা বলল, “হামন দরবারে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন।” রাজা বললেন, “তাকে ভিতরে নিয়ে এসো।”
6 So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What shall be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
হামন ভিতরে আসলে পর রাজা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “রাজা যাকে সম্মান দেখাতে চায় তার জন্য কি করা উচিত?” তখন হামন মনে মনে ভাবল, “আমাকে ছাড়া আর কাকেই বা রাজা সম্মান দেখাবেন?”
7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
সেইজন্য সে উত্তরে বলল, “রাজা যাকে সম্মান দেখাতে চান,
8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
তার জন্য রাজার একটি রাজপোশাক আনা হোক এবং যে ঘোড়ার মাথায় রাজকীয় মুকুট পরানো থাকে রাজার সেই ঘোড়াও আনা হোক।
9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
তারপর সেই পোশাক ও ঘোড়া রাজার উঁচু পদের লোকদের মধ্যে একজনের হাতে দেওয়া হোক। রাজা যাকে সম্মান দেখাতে চান তাঁকে সেই পোশাক পরানো হোক এবং তাঁকে সেই ঘোড়ায় চড়িয়ে নিয়ে নগরের চকে তার আগে আগে এই কথা ঘোষণা করা হোক, রাজা যাঁকে সম্মান দেখাতে চান তাঁর প্রতি এরকমই করা হয়।”
10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
রাজা হামনকে আদেশ দিলেন, “তুমি এখনই গিয়ে রাজপোশাক এবং ঘোড়া নিয়ে যেমন বললে রাজবাড়ির দ্বারে বসা সেই ইহুদি মর্দখয়ের প্রতি তেমনি করো। তুমি যা যা বললে তার কোনটাই করতে যেন অবহেলা করা না হয়।”
11 Then Haman took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
তখন হামন রাজপোশাক এবং ঘোড়া নিল এবং মর্দখয়কে রাজপোশাক পরিয়ে ও ঘোড়ায় চড়িয়ে নিয়ে নগরের চকে তার আগে আগে এই কথা ঘোষণা করল, “রাজা যাঁকে সম্মান দেখাতে চান তাঁর প্রতি এরকমই করা হবে!”
12 And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
এরপর মর্দখয় আবার রাজবাড়ির দ্বারে ফিরে গেলেন। কিন্তু হামন দুঃখে মাথা ঢেকে তাড়াতাড়ি করে ঘরে গেল,
13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife to him, If Mordecai is of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
এবং তার প্রতি যা ঘটেছে তা সব তার স্ত্রী সেরশ ও সমস্ত বন্ধুদের বলল। তার পরামর্শদাতারা ও তার স্ত্রী সেরশ তাকে বলল, “যার সামনে তোমার এই পতন আরম্ভ হয়েছে, সেই মর্দখয় যদি ইহুদি বংশের লোক হয় তবে তার বিরুদ্ধে তুমি দাঁড়াতে পারবে না—নিশ্চয়ই তুমি ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে!”
14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
তারা তখনও তার সঙ্গে কথা বলছে এমন সময় রাজার নপুংসকেরা এসে তাড়াতাড়ি করে হামনকে ইষ্টেরের প্রস্তুত করা ভোজে যোগ দেবার জন্য নিয়ে গেল।
