Deuteronomy 23
1 He that is wounded, or cut off in his secrets, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
Celui qui est eunuque, soit pour avoir été froissé, soit pour avoir été taillé, n’entrera point dans la congrégation de l’Éternel.
2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
L’enfant illégitime n’entrera pas dans la congrégation de l’Éternel; même sa dixième génération n’entrera pas dans la congrégation de l’Éternel.
3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
L’Ammonite et le Moabite n’entreront pas dans la congrégation de l’Éternel; même leur dixième génération n’entrera pas dans la congrégation de l’Éternel, à jamais;
4 Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth from Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.
parce qu’ils ne sont pas venus à votre rencontre avec du pain et de l’eau dans le chemin, lorsque vous sortiez d’Égypte, et parce qu’ils ont loué [à prix d’argent] contre toi, Balaam, fils de Béor, de Pethor, en Mésopotamie, pour te maudire.
5 Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken to Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing to thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.
Mais l’Éternel, ton Dieu, ne voulut pas écouter Balaam; et l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a changé pour toi la malédiction en bénédiction, car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a aimé.
6 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.
Tu ne chercheras jamais leur paix, ni leur prospérité, tous tes jours.
7 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.
– Tu n’auras pas en abomination l’Édomite, car il est ton frère; tu n’auras pas en abomination l’Égyptien, car tu as séjourné comme étranger dans son pays.
8 The children that are begotten by them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.
Les fils qui leur naîtront, à la troisième génération, entreront dans la congrégation de l’Éternel.
9 When the host goeth forth against thy enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.
Lorsque le camp sortira contre tes ennemis, garde-toi de toute chose mauvaise.
10 If there shall be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth to him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:
S’il y a parmi toi un homme qui ne soit pas pur, pour quelque accident de nuit, il sortira hors du camp; il n’entrera pas dans l’intérieur du camp;
11 But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.
et sur le soir il se lavera dans l’eau; et au coucher du soleil il entrera dans l’intérieur du camp.
12 Thou shalt have a place also outside the camp, where thou shalt go forth abroad:
Et tu auras un endroit hors du camp, et tu sortiras là dehors;
13 And thou shalt have a shovel among thy weapons; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig with it, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:
et tu auras, outre tes armes, un pieu; et il arrivera, quand tu t’assiéras dehors, que tu creuseras avec ce [pieu], et tu te retourneras, et tu couvriras ce qui est sorti de toi.
14 For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thy enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he may see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.
Car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, marche au milieu de ton camp pour te délivrer et pour livrer tes ennemis devant toi; et ton camp sera saint, afin qu’il ne voie parmi toi rien de malséant, et qu’il ne se détourne d’avec toi.
15 Thou shalt not deliver to his master the servant who hath escaped from his master to thee:
Tu ne livreras point à son maître le serviteur qui se sera sauvé chez toi d’auprès de son maître;
16 He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it pleaseth him best: thou shalt not oppress him.
il habitera avec toi, au milieu de toi, dans le lieu qu’il choisira en l’une de tes portes, là où bon lui semble: tu ne l’opprimeras pas.
17 There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
Il n’y aura, d’entre les filles d’Israël, aucune femme vouée à la prostitution, et il n’y aura, d’entre les fils d’Israël, aucun homme voué à la prostitution.
18 Thou shalt not bring the hire of an harlot, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination to the LORD thy God.
Tu n’apporteras point dans la maison de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, pour aucun vœu, le salaire d’une prostituée, ni le prix d’un chien; car ils sont tous les deux en abomination à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
19 Thou shalt not lend upon interest to thy brother; interest of money, interest of food, interest of any thing that is lent upon interest:
Tu ne prendras pas d’intérêt de ton frère, intérêt d’argent, intérêt de vivres, intérêt de quelque chose que ce soit qu’on prête à intérêt.
20 To a stranger thou mayest lend upon interest; but to thy brother thou shalt not lend upon interest: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thy hand to in the land where thou goest to possess it.
Tu prendras un intérêt de l’étranger, mais de ton frère tu ne prendras pas d’intérêt; afin que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénisse en tout ce à quoi tu mets la main, dans le pays où tu entres pour le posséder.
21 When thou shalt vow a vow to the LORD thy God, thou shalt not defer to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
Quand tu voueras un vœu à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, tu ne tarderas pas à l’acquitter; car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, le redemandera certainement de ta part, et il y aura du péché sur toi;
22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.
mais si tu t’abstiens de faire un vœu, il n’y aura pas du péché sur toi.
23 That which is uttered by thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed to the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.
Ce qui sera sorti de tes lèvres, l’offrande volontaire que tu auras promise de ta bouche, tu prendras garde à le faire, comme tu auras voué à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
24 When thou comest into thy neighbour’s vineyard, then thou mayest satisfy thy appetite with grapes at thy own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
Si tu entres dans la vigne de ton prochain, tu pourras manger des raisins selon ton appétit et te rassasier; mais tu n’en mettras pas dans ta corbeille.
25 When thou comest into the standing grain of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the heads with thy hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle to thy neighbour’s standing grain.
Si tu entres dans les blés de ton prochain, tu pourras arracher des épis avec ta main; mais tu ne lèveras pas la faucille sur les blés de ton prochain.
