Acts 9
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
Cependant Saul, respirant encore la menace et la mort contre les disciples du Seigneur, alla trouver le grand prêtre
2 And desired from him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
et lui demanda des lettres pour les synagogues de Damas, afin que, s’il trouvait des gens de cette croyance, hommes ou femmes, il les amenât enchaînés à Jérusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shone around him a light from heaven:
Comme il était en chemin et qu’il approchait de Damas, tout à coup une lumière venant du ciel resplendit autour de lui.
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Il tomba par terre, et entendit une voix qui lui disait: « Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? »
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the goads.
Il répondit: « Qui êtes-vous, Seigneur? » Et le Seigneur dit: « Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes. [Il n’est pas bon pour toi de regimber contre l’aiguillon. »
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Tremblant et saisi d’effroi, il dit: « Seigneur, que voulez-vous que je fasse? » Le Seigneur lui répondit: ] « Lève-toi et entre dans la ville; là on te dira ce que tu dois faire. »
7 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
Les hommes qui l’accompagnaient demeurèrent saisis de stupeur, car ils percevaient le son de la voix, mais ne voyaient personne.
8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
Saul se releva de terre, et bien que ses yeux fussent ouverts, il ne voyait rien; on le prit par la main et on le conduisit à Damas;
9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
et il y fut trois jours sans voir, et sans prendre ni nourriture ni boisson.
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
Or il y avait à Damas un disciple nommé Ananie. Le Seigneur lui dit dans une vision: « Ananie! » Il répondit: « Me voici, Seigneur. »
11 And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
Et le Seigneur lui dit: « Lève-toi, va dans la rue qu’on appelle la Droite, et cherche dans la maison de Judas un nommé Saul, de Tarse; car il est en prière. »
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
(Et il a vu en vision un homme nommé Ananie, qui entrait et lui imposait les mains afin qu’il recouvrât la vue.)
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
Ananie répondit: « Seigneur, j’ai appris de plusieurs tout le mal que cet homme a fait à vos saints dans Jérusalem.
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
Et il a ici, des princes des prêtres, plein pouvoir pour charger de chaînes tous ceux qui invoquent votre nom. »
15 But the Lord said to him, Go: for he is a chosen vessel to me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
Mais le Seigneur lui dit: « Va, car cet homme est un instrument que j’ai choisi, pour porter mon nom devant les nations, devant les rois et devant les enfants d’Israël;
16 For I will show him what great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.
et je lui montrerai tout ce qu’il doit souffrir pour mon nom. »
17 And Ananias went, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared to thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ananie s’en alla, et arrivé dans la maison, il imposa les mains à Saul, en disant: « Saul, mon frère, le Seigneur Jésus qui t’a apparu sur le chemin par lequel tu venais, m’a envoyé pour que tu recouvres la vue et que tu sois rempli du Saint-Esprit. »
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight immediately, and arose, and was baptized.
Au même instant, il tomba des yeux de Saul comme des écailles, et il recouvra la vue. Il se leva et fut baptisé;
19 And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples who were at Damascus.
et après qu’il eut pris de la nourriture, ses forces lui revinrent. Saul passa quelques jours avec les disciples qui étaient à Damas,
20 And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
et aussitôt il se mit à prêcher dans les synagogues que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu.
21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them who called on this name in Jerusalem, and came here for that intent, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?
Tous ceux qui l’entendaient étaient dans l’étonnement et disaient: « N’est-ce pas lui qui persécutait à Jérusalem ceux qui invoquent ce nom, et n’est-il pas venu ici pour les conduire chargés de chaînes aux princes des prêtres? »
22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
Cependant Saul sentait redoubler son courage, et il confondait les Juifs de Damas, leur démontrant que Jésus est le Christ.
23 And after many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:
Après un temps assez considérable, les Juifs formèrent le dessein de le tuer,
24 But their laying in wait was known to Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.
mais leur complot parvint à la connaissance de Saul. On gardait les portes jour et nuit, afin de le mettre à mort.
25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.
Mais les disciples le prirent pendant la nuit et le descendirent par la muraille, dans une corbeille.
26 And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
Il se rendit à Jérusalem, et il cherchait à se mettre en rapport avec les disciples; mais tous le craignaient, ne pouvant croire qu’il fût disciple de Jésus.
27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
Alors Barnabé, l’ayant pris avec lui, le mena aux Apôtres, et leur raconta comment sur le chemin Saul avait vu le Seigneur, qui lui avait parlé, et avec quel courage il avait, à Damas, prêché le nom de Jésus.
28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
Dès lors Saul allait et venait avec eux dans Jérusalem, et parlait avec assurance au nom du Seigneur.
29 And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
Il s’adressait aussi aux Hellénistes et disputait avec eux; mais ceux-ci cherchaient à le mettre à mort.
30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
Les frères, l’ayant su, l’emmenèrent à Césarée, d’où ils le firent partir pour Tarse.
31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.
L’Église était en paix dans toute la Judée, la Galilée et la Samarie, se développant et progressant dans la crainte du Seigneur, et elle se multipliait par l’assistance du Saint-Esprit.
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints who dwelt at Lydda.
Or il arriva que Pierre, visitant les saints de ville en ville, descendit vers ceux qui demeuraient à Lydda.
33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had kept his bed eight years, and was sick with the palsy.
Il y trouva un homme appelé Enée, couché sur un lit depuis huit ans: c’était un paralytique.
34 And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ healeth thee: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.
Pierre lui dit: « Enée, Jésus-Christ te guérit; lève-toi, et fais toi-même ton lit. » Et aussitôt il se leva.
35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
Tous les habitants de Lydda et de Saron le virent, et ils se convertirent au Seigneur.
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, who by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
Il y avait à Joppé, parmi les disciples, une femme nommée Tabitha, en grec Dorcas: elle était riche en bonnes œuvres et faisait beaucoup d’aumônes.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid in an upper chamber.
Elle tomba malade en ce temps-là, et mourut. Après l’avoir lavée, on la déposa dans une chambre haute.
38 And as Lydda was near to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent to him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
Comme Lydda est près de Joppé, les disciples ayant appris que Pierre s’y trouvait, envoyèrent deux hommes vers lui pour lui adresser cette prière: « Ne tarde pas de venir jusque chez nous. »
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
Pierre se leva et partit avec eux. Dès qu’il fut arrivé, on le conduisit dans la chambre haute, et toutes les veuves l’entourèrent en pleurant, et en lui montrant les tuniques et les vêtements que faisait Dorcas pendant qu’elle était avec elles.
40 But Peter put them all out, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
Pierre fit sortir tout le monde, se mit à genoux et pria; puis, se tournant vers le cadavre, il dit: « Tabitha, lève-toi! » Elle ouvrit les yeux, et ayant vu Pierre, elle se mit sur son séant.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
Pierre lui tendit la main et l’aida à se lever. Et ayant appelé les saints et les veuves, il la leur présenta vivante.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
Ce prodige fut connu dans toute la ville de Joppé, et un grand nombre crurent au Seigneur.
43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
Pierre demeura quelque temps à Joppé, chez un corroyeur nommé Simon.
