2 Samuel 5

1 Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

Et toutes les Tribus d'Israël firent une démarche auprès de David à Hébron et parlèrent en ces termes: Voici, nous sommes tes os et ta chair.

2 Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

Ci-devant déjà, quand Saül régnait sur nous, c'est toi qui menais et ramenais Israël, et l'Éternel t'a dit: Tu seras le pasteur de mon peuple d'Israël et tu deviendras prince d'Israël.

3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

Tous les Anciens d'Israël se présentèrent donc chez le Roi à Hébron, et le Roi David conclut avec eux un pacte à Hébron devant l'Éternel, et ils oignirent David comme Roi d'Israël.

4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

David avait trente ans à son avènement, et il régna quarante ans.

5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

A Hébron il régna sur Juda sept ans et six mois, et à Jérusalem il régna trente-trois ans sur la totalité d'Israël et de Juda.

6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: who spoke to David, saying, Except thou shalt take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in here: thinking, David cannot come in there.

Et le Roi avec ses hommes marcha sur Jérusalem contre les Jébusites habitants du pays. Et ils tinrent à David ce langage: Tu ne saurais pénétrer ici, mais les aveugles et les perclus te tiendraient à distance! pour dire: David ne pénétrera pas ici.

7 Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

Cependant David s'empara de la citadelle de Sion, c'est la Cité de David.

8 And David said on that day, Whoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated by David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

Et David avait dit en ce jour-là: Quiconque battra les Jébusites et s'avancera jusqu'à l'aqueduc et aux perclus et aux aveugles hostiles à la personne de David… (De là le dicton: Ni aveugle ni perclus n'entrera au logis.)

9 So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built around from Millo and inward.

Et David prit sa résidence dans la citadelle qu'il appela Cité de David; et David fit des constructions tout autour à partir de Millo jusque dans l'intérieur.

10 And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

Et David allait grandissant pas à pas, et l'Éternel, Dieu des armées, l'assistait.

11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

Et Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya une députation à David, et du bois de cèdre et des charpentiers et des maçons, qui bâtirent une maison à David.

12 And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

Et David sentit que l'Éternel le confirmait comme roi d'Israël, et qu'il élevait son royaume en vue de son peuple d'Israël.

13 And David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

Et David prit encore des concubines et des femmes de Jérusalem après être venu d'Hébron; et il naquit encore à David des fils et des filles.

14 And these are the names of those that were born to him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

Or voici les noms de ses enfants nés à Jérusalem: Sammuah et Sobab et Nathan et Salomon,

15 Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

et Jibehar, et Elisuah et Népheg et Japhiah

16 And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

et Elisamah et Eliada et Eliphélet.

17 But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the strong hold.

Et à la nouvelle de l'onction de David en qualité de roi d'Israël les Philistins en totalité se mirent en campagne à la recherche de David.

18 The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

Et David en ayant eu avis descendit au fort. Et les Philistins parurent et occupèrent la vallée de Rephaïm.

19 And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the LORD said to David, Go up: for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

Alors David interrogea l'Éternel en ces termes: Irai-je attaquer les Philistins? les feras-tu tomber dans mes mains? Et l'Éternel dit à David: Va, car je ferai tomber les Philistins dans tes mains.

20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon my enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

Et David s'avança sur Bahal-Peratsim où il les défit; et il dit: L'Éternel a rompu mes ennemis devant moi comme des eaux dont on rompt le fil. C'est pourquoi il donna à ce lieu le nom de Bahal-Peratsim (lieu des ruptures).

21 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

Et ils abandonnèrent leurs idoles, et David et ses hommes les emportèrent.

22 And the Philistines came yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

Et les Philistins renouvelèrent l'attaque et occupèrent la vallée de Rephaïm.

23 And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but make a circuit behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.

Et David interrogea l'Éternel qui répondit: N'attaque pas! tourne-les et les prends à dos et joins-les vis-à-vis des baumiers-pleureurs.

24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

Et lorsque tu ouïras un bruit de pas dans les cimes des baumiers-pleureurs, alors dépêche-toi! car c'est le moment où l'Éternel marchera devant toi à la défaite de l'armée des Philistins.

25 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou comest to Gazer.

Et David se conforma à l'ordre de l'Éternel et il battit les Philistins, de Geba aux abords de Gézer.
