2 Samuel 21
1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
Có một nạn đói kéo dài suốt trong ba năm dưới triều Đa-vít, vì vậy Đa-vít cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu. Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Nguyên do vì Sau-lơ và người nhà đã sát hại người Ga-ba-ôn.”
2 And the king called the Gibeonites, and said to them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
Vậy, vua gọi người Ga-ba-ôn đến để nói chuyện. Họ không phải là người Ít-ra-ên, nhưng là người A-mô-rít còn sống sót. Tuy Ít-ra-ên đã có lời thề không giết họ, nhưng Sau-lơ, vì sốt sắng đối với dân Ít-ra-ên và Giu-đa, đã tìm cách tiêu diệt họ.
3 Therefore David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and how shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?
Đa-vít hỏi người Ga-ba-ôn: “Ta phải làm gì cho anh em để chuộc tội, để anh em chúc phước lành cho người của Chúa Hằng Hữu?”
4 And the Gibeonites said to him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
Người Ga-ba-ôn đáp: “Chúng tôi không đòi hỏi vàng bạc gì cả trong việc này, cũng không muốn giết ai trong Ít-ra-ên.” Đa-vít lại hỏi: “Vậy thì ta phải làm gì?”
5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining within any border of Israel,
Họ đáp: “Đối với Sau-lơ, người đã chủ trương tiêu diệt chúng tôi, không cho chúng tôi tồn tại trên lãnh thổ Ít-ra-ên như thế,
6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD chose. And the king said, I will give them.
chỉ xin vua giao cho chúng tôi bảy người trong các con trai của Sau-lơ để chúng tôi treo họ trước Chúa Hằng Hữu trên núi Ngài tại Ghi-bê-a, núi của Chúa Hằng Hữu.” Vua nói: “Được, ta sẽ giao họ cho anh em.”
7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD’S oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
Vua tránh không đụng đến Mê-phi-bô-sết, con Giô-na-than, cháu Sau-lơ, vì vua đã có lời thề với Giô-na-than trước Chúa Hằng Hữu.
8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:
Nhưng vua bắt Ạt-mô-ni và Mê-phi-bô-sết, là hai con trai của Rít-ba (bà này là con của Sau-lơ và bà Ai-gia). Vua cũng bắt năm con trai của Mê-ráp, bà này là con của Sau-lơ, chồng là Át-ri-ên con ông Bát-xi-lai ở tại Mê-hô-la.
9 And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
Vua giao họ cho người Ga-ba-ôn và họ đem những người này treo trên núi trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu. Cả bảy người đều chết vào ngày đầu mùa gặt lúa mạch.
10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until the rain poured on them from heaven, and allowed neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
Rít-ba lấy bao bố trải trên một tảng đá và ở lại đó canh xác từ đầu mùa gặt cho đến khi mưa đổ xuống. Ban ngày bà đuổi chim chóc, ban đêm canh không cho thú rừng đến gần xác.
11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
Có người báo cho Đa-vít biết được những điều Rít-ba, vợ bé của Sau-lơ, đã làm,
12 And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, who had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:
Đa-vít đi Gia-be Ga-la-át thu nhặt hài cốt của Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than. (Vì những người ở địa phương này đã cướp xác họ đem về. Trước đó người Phi-li-tin treo xác Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than tại công trường Bết-san, sau khi họ tử trận tại Ghinh-bô-a).
13 And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.
Đồng thời với việc thu nhặt hài cốt của Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than, người ta cũng lấy xương cốt của bảy người bị treo.
14 And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son they buried in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.
Vua ra lệnh đem tất cả về Xê-la trong đất Bên-gia-min và chôn trong khu mộ của Kích, cha Sau-lơ. Sau khi thi hành xong các điều vua truyền, Đức Chúa Trời nghe lời cầu nguyện và thôi trừng phạt lãnh thổ.
15 Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David became faint.
Ít-ra-ên lại có chiến tranh với người Phi-li-tin. Đa-vít thân hành ra trận cùng các thuộc hạ, nhưng vua cảm thấy mỏi mệt lắm.
16 And Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought of slaying David.
Lúc ấy Ích-bi-bê-nốp, một người thuộc dòng khổng lồ, sử dụng cây thương đồng nặng 3,4 ký, lưng đeo thanh gươm còn mới, tấn công Đa-vít và suýt giết được vua.
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, Thou shalt go out no more with us to battle, that thou mayest not put out the light of Israel.
Nhưng A-bi-sai, con của Xê-ru-gia, đến cứu kịp và giết người Phi-li-tin ấy. Nhân dịp này, tướng sĩ xin vua thề sẽ không ra trận nữa, vì họ sợ “ngọn đèn của Ít-ra-ên bị dập tắt.”
18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
Sau đó, trong một trận tấn công quân Phi-li-tin ở Góp, Si-bê-cai, người Hu-sa giết Sáp, cũng là người thuộc dòng khổng lồ.
19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
Trong một trận khác với người Phi-li-tin, cũng tại Góp, Ên-ha-nan, con Gia-a-rê Ô-ri-ghim, người Bết-lê-hem giết được em của Gô-li-át, người Gát. Người Phi-li-tin này sử dụng một cây thương có cán lớn như cây trục máy dệt!
20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
Tại Gát, trong một trận khác nữa, có một người khổng lồ có sáu ngón trên mỗi bàn tay và mỗi bàn chân, tổng cộng hai mươi bốn ngón.
21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.
Khi người này nhục mạ Ít-ra-ên, liền bị Giô-na-than, con của Si-mê-i, anh Đa-vít, giết.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
Bốn người kể trên đều thuộc dòng khổng lồ sống ở Gát, và đều bị các tướng sĩ của Đa-vít giết chết!
