2 Chronicles 14
1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Als Abia sich aber zu seinen Vätern gelegt und man ihn in der Davidsstadt begraben hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Asa auf dem Throne nach; unter dessen Regierung erfreute das Land sich zehn Jahre lang der Ruhe.
2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
Asa tat, was in den Augen des HERRN, seines Gottes, gut und recht war;
3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and broke down the images, and cut down the groves:
denn er beseitigte die Altäre der fremden Götter und den Höhendienst, ließ die Malsteine zerschlagen und die Götzenpfähle umhauen
4 And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
und wies die Judäer darauf hin, den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, zu suchen und das Gesetz und die Gebote zu erfüllen.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
In allen Ortschaften Judas beseitigte er den Höhendienst und die Sonnensäulen, und das Reich erfreute sich der Ruhe unter ihm.
6 And he built fortified cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
Er legte sodann feste Plätze in Juda an; denn das Land hatte Ruhe, und niemand führte in jenen Jahren Krieg mit ihm, weil der HERR ihm Ruhe verschafft hatte.
7 Therefore he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
Darum forderte er die Judäer auf: »Laßt uns diese Ortschaften ausbauen und sie mit Mauern und Türmen, Toren und Riegeln rings umgeben! Noch haben wir freie Hand im Lande, weil wir den HERRN, unsern Gott, gesucht haben; wir haben ihn gesucht, und er hat uns ringsum Ruhe geschafft.« So machten sie sich denn an die Bauten und führten sie glücklich aus.
8 And Asa had an army of men that bore shields and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
Dazu besaß Asa ein Heer, das Schild und Speer führte: aus Juda 300000 und aus Benjamin 280000 Mann, welche Tartschen führten und den Bogen zu spannen wußten, durchweg tapfere Krieger.
9 And there came out against them Zerah the Cushite with an host of a million, and three hundred chariots; and came to Mareshah.
Da zog der Kuschit Serah gegen sie heran mit einem Heere von einer Million Mann und mit dreihundert Kriegswagen und drang bis Maresa vor.
10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
Asa zog ihm entgegen, und sie stellten sich im Tal Zephatha bei Maresa zur Schlacht auf.
11 And Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Da rief Asa den HERRN, seinen Gott, an und betete: »HERR! Um zu helfen, ist bei dir kein Unterschied zwischen einem Starken und einem Schwachen. So hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott! Denn auf dich setzen wir unser Vertrauen und in deinem Namen sind wir gegen diese Übermacht ausgezogen. Du bist der HERR, unser Gott: kein Mensch soll dir gegenüber sich behaupten dürfen!«
12 So the LORD smote the Cushites before Asa, and before Judah; and the Cushites fled.
Da schlug der HERR die Kuschiten, so daß sie vor Asa und den Judäern die Flucht ergriffen;
13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar: and the Cushites were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
Asa aber und das Heer, das bei ihm war, verfolgten sie bis Gerar, und es fielen von den Kuschiten so viele, daß keiner von ihnen mit dem Leben davonkam, sondern sie vor dem HERRN und seinem Heere völlig aufgerieben wurden. So machten die Judäer denn eine gewaltige Beute,
14 And they smote all the cities about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they smote all the cities; for there was very much spoil in them.
eroberten auch alle Städte rings um Gerar – es war nämlich ein Schrecken vom HERRN her über sie gekommen –, und sie plünderten alle Städte; denn es befand sich eine reiche Beute in ihnen.
15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
Auch der Zeltlager mit den Herden bemächtigten sie sich, trieben Kleinvieh in Menge und Kamele als Beute weg und kehrten dann nach Jerusalem zurück.
