1 Thessalonians 5
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write to you.
兄弟よ、時と期とに就きては汝らに書きおくるに及ばず。
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
汝らは主の日の盜人の夜きたるが如くに來ることを、自ら詳細に知ればなり。
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
人々の平和 無事なりと言ふほどに、滅亡にはかに彼らの上に來らん、妊める婦に産の苦痛の臨むがごとし、必ず遁るることを得じ。
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
されど兄弟よ、汝らは暗に居らざれば、盜人の來るごとく其の日なんぢらに追及くことなし。
5 Ye are all children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
それ汝 等はみな光の子ども晝の子供なり。我らは夜に屬く者にあらず、暗に屬く者にあらず。
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober minded.
されば他の人のごとく眠るべからず、目を覺して愼むべし。
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that get drunk are drunk in the night.
眠る者は夜 眠り、酒に醉ふ者は夜 醉ふなり。
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
されど我らは晝に屬く者なれば、信仰と愛との胸當を著け、救の望の兜をかむりて愼むべし。
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
それ神は我らを怒に遭はせんとにあらず、主イエス・キリストに頼りて救を得させんと定め給へるなり。
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
主の我等のために死に給へるは、我等をして寤めをるとも眠りをるとも己と共に生くることを得しめん爲なり。
11 Therefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
此の故に互に勸めて各自の徳を建つべし、これ汝らが常に爲す所なり。
12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
兄弟よ、汝らに求む。なんぢらの中に勞し、主にありて汝らを治め、汝らを訓戒する者を重んじ、
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
その勤勞によりて厚く之を愛し敬へ。また互に相 和ぐべし。
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
兄弟よ、汝らに勸む、妄なる者を訓戒し、落膽せし者を勵まし、弱き者を扶け、凡ての人に對して寛容なれ。
15 See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
誰も人に對し惡をもて惡に報いぬやう愼め。ただ相 互に、また凡ての人に對して常に善を追ひ求めよ。
16 Rejoice evermore.
常に喜べ、
17 Pray without ceasing.
絶えず祈れ、
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
凡てのことを感謝せよ、これキリスト・イエスに由りて神の汝らに求め給ふ所なり。
19 Quench not the Spirit.
御靈を熄すな、
20 Despise not prophesyings.
預言を蔑すな、
21 Examine all things; hold fast that which is good.
凡てのこと試みて善きものを守り、
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
凡て惡の類に遠ざかれ。
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
願はくは平和の神、みづから汝らを全く潔くし、汝らの靈と心と體とを全く守りて、我らの主イエス・キリストの來り給ふとき責むべき所なからしめ給はん事を。
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
汝らを召したまふ者は眞實なれば、之を成し給ふべし。
25 Brethren, pray for us.
兄弟よ、我らのために祈れ。
26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
きよき接吻をもて凡ての兄弟の安否を問へ。
27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.
主によりて汝らに命ず、この書を凡ての兄弟に讀み聞かせよ。
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. The first epistle to the Thessalonians was written from Athens.
願はくは主イエス・キリストの恩惠、なんぢらと偕に在らんことを。
